12 things that sound sexual in French - I heard so many times, English speakers saying something they think is totally innocent when it is absolutely not.
It's always half funny and half embarrassing to explain to them that they should NEVER say that.
So I decided to save you the trouble, and make a list of the things you should never say.

When I was visiting France 2 years ago, I accidentally said this to a french girl in the hostel I was staying at when I was telling her about how I was going to see the eiffel tower the next day and I was really excited. Thankfully, she did not slap me, she just laughed and corrected me, but I was so embarrassed afterwards! Merci pour les vidéos et l'occasion de gagner votre livre :D

  • I've been guilty of the "Je suis chaud" instead of "J'ai chaud" but maybe it doesn't have the same connotations in Quebecois French as it does in Parisian French. Concours. One funny mistranslation moment with an ex happened when preparing dinner for us and her parents. She was shredding some cheese and said that she would be finished once she was done, well the French word for shredding is râper, the cheese. Instead of translating the verb something in her mind just decided to take off the "er" and add "ing" to the French verb. Needless to say we all had a good laugh! (And I went a round about way of telling it because I didn't want to trigger any alerts.)

He politely told me that meant “I am dead”, and what I should have said was “J’ai finis” - “I have finished”. Not quite as bad a mistake as saying one of those no-no idiomatic phrases like “I want to have sex with you”. Lol.
