How retailers quietly track your return behavior

The latest crackdown on returns is only that latest effort by retailers to tamp down on return losses. Many major U.S. retailers have implemented third-party tracking software to track and block behavior that 'mimics' return fraud, unbeknownst to most shoppers.
If you deny my legitimate return, good luck with ever having me return to your store as a customer ever again.
Exactly!! No fancy science behind it. Just don't shop there anymore.
Girl you think they care 😭
Just like every other policy, this too will impact only the genuine customer.. fraudsters will always find another way to trick the system
Meanwhile at Costco...
Is this service available on eBay?? As a seller I want a blacklist of known bad actors so they are banned before they can cause problems.
As a Costco HQ Corp employee, it's my understanding Costco does not plan to modify their Double Guarantee; 100% refund on your membership or products you purchase. This comment is my own and not of Costco Corporation.
I never returned anything for years ..not until I finally got sick of feeling ripped off..but until I literally just couldn’t afford to give my money away. Now, I return anything anytime it’s not worth the money I spent or unusable. It adds up and adds up and it is by billion dollar companies. It’s not like I in person purchased something and returned it. I am honest about every single return. I notified Walmart that I didn’t receive a 6 pack of dog food then found it and contacted them to give the refund back..they didn’t take the refund back and told me to keep the product
Narration is so bad, what is wrong with her voice? Very irritating to listen
It's painful to listen to.
Walmart did this to me, and I find it wasn't based on my purchases vs returns and didn't look at why. There is ONE walmart in my town. It's awful, but I ordered from them several times a week. I work 6 days a week, have a family of 5 here, and am Mom taxi nights and weekends. I have very little time, so used their grocery delivery. With almost EVERY order, I got something expired, (liquid eggs once 6 weeks out of date) chicken, sausage, moldy (strawberries, tomatoes, beans) salsa so fermented it was bubbling, in addition to missing items. They refused to send out a fresh item and each time told me my only option was to open a return. This also meant I then had to make a trip to the store if it was something I needed ASAP. So after abut 6 months of this, they told me I may no longer order online due to return violations. I contacted them multiple times trying to explain why I had almost one return a week and that maybe they should talk to the store manager and not continually sell expired products. They didn't care. They had the nerve to tell me to pay another 100 membership under a different email! I spend at least 350/week on groceries and now just order elsewhere.
Stop being so lazy and go buy your own groceries.
@@millll111lllI You d** I'm not lazy. I work 6 days a week, 10 hours a day, have 3 kids, one with a disability which makes the shopping trips MUCH more time consuming, and I have kid activities multiple nights a week. It's not LAZY, it's called BUSY.
Hey glad youmentioned Walmart, there is something really shady going on with their online services. I bought a discounted item online, they sent me an opened ink cartridge, all taped up. As soon as I picked it , I turned around to customer service to return but they said they couldnt find it in system. I stood there insisting , saying i just picked it up and here are the order details. Finally I said in that case let me go get an unopened box instead of this, and then magically they figured out hw to give refund. Another instance I ended up losing money due to online purchase , this was big purchase. Same thing , the store couldnt find my order in system , even though I presented proof of the order and pick up details . They forced me to take gift card which I ended up losing in the car park because I was in a hurry after waiting in that store fr 40 minutes. How abt that! And no they will not replace gift cards.
The statement at the end is misleading. You can CANNOT GET a copy of your Retail Activity Report on request. You can only get it after there is an adverse action against you AND you supply the transaction number. It is not like a Credit Report where you just get one on request for your own review.
This is meaningless if the buyer buys way more than the average customer. Retailers couldn't care less if the buyers spend 100k annually, and only returns 1k of that.
Very interesting. If knowing all this makes consumers think twice before buying, then they could just figure not to, and just make do with whatever they have at home of the same thing that still probably works just fine. It's all the buy the bright and shiny thinking that is causing most of these returns anyway. Simply because they get home and realize I can not afford this after going over their credit card balances. Try minimalism. You buy little. And at the end of the day you add up everything you normally would have bought, then add that amount to what you saved in just one day! Do this every day and at the end of the week, the month, you'll be amazed the ability to conserve spending really does pay off✅️.
pay cash, dont give no reward membership or ID no tracking !
I’d rather watch this video with the volume down and just read the captions…. The voice is irritating me!
I agree to much money being lost also cost of inflation I will just have stricter guidelines for full refund returns only like for detective items or charge a stocking/return fee to be put it back in shelves .
Whose daughter did they let narrate this video seriously 🤨
My thoughts exactly
Good knowledge but a bottom lines retailer are losing money.
I return unworn items when they go on sale. it drives me crazy
Can’t you ask for a price adjustment?
Because why would one need a million years to return an item? lol!
Made a lot of money from returning
girls love to return all their used dresses after the weekend is over 😂😂😂
I’m definitely on a list lol
This is why people use cash!
Places who use agencies like the one mentioned require a customer’s personal information in order to make a return, regardless of how it was purchased.
The vocal fry on the narrator is so irritating!!! Stop this ladies… god has given u an amazing voice which is supposed to be incredibly sweet to the ears.. don’t destroy the gift!
Yes 💯
To those who are blacklisted..... maybe put more effort into what you buy instead of thinking everything is returnable just because you can. Then you won't be blacklisted lol. Everyone can't be a victim in life.
...but retailers can play the victim card?
@@danieldreyer2 They could, but the issue is not retailers. As they stated, it's people returning numerous items each year - somethings after using 1x (e.g. dress).
Smokscreenreport, when we are losing money is the out of control theft
