I've been a machinist twenty years,I know how to grind a drill by hand on a grinding wheel,it's a art in itself especially big drills, not many people know how to do it.
Yeah and you gotta do it regularly to stay in practice. I totally understand the process but never could quite get it right. So after several cheap sharpening gizmos i bought a drill doctor. Which works spectacularly well but only on drilld with a twist rate thats compatible with the indexing method. Those that arent end up just a blob at the end. Those that work look just like new bits, split point and all.
Never have I seen a more complicated way 😢
How to take off a finger. Do not ever hold a piece of metal with your fingers while drilling. Use a vice grip or any other tool. Ask me how I know.
So what your saying is that you can't use your fingers to count to 10. Maybe pull them clod hoppers off & use your toes😅
You left, "easily," behind after the fourth step.
Только не нужно забывать периодически сверло охлаждать, тогда будет вообще ХОРОШО. Привет из Гомеля, Беларусь 🇧🇾
No sign of any water to cool the work in this video... Of course a good mechanic would know this! 😢
😂😂 30 seconds on a grinding wheel does it, you don't have to build bloody Noahs Ark.
Some kind of jig does help to get the angle right.
As boiler maker I can ensure you this is stupid I only need a bench grinder and if on site a grinder
Most of this was painful to watch. Not that hard to freehand once you learn the geometry of a drill. I find it very relaxing to sit down with good light preferably sun light and a pair of magnifiers on and sharpen 50 in one sitting. If im getting technical I'll use a gauge.
Safety was not present in any part of that demo it was notvdone properly and Noone should follow his lead.
So I need wood, bench saw, metal, angle grinder or buy a new drill ???
I give it a bit more angle and definitely a back relief. Some ofy best drill bits. Kinda gives it a step up
I hold it free hand and sharpen
Still waiting for the easy part
I just use an ANGLE grider, Put the drill bit an a clamp angle myself and sharpen, my bit works really great after and that's it really......
Wow! The idea is so great, congratulations
You have a talent my friend please continue to show simple ways to achieve mundane tasks. 👍🏻👍🏻
I do the samething at work. But I don't need a block of wood and all that jazz. I just hold it up to a grinder. Use 2 nuts for a guide. Give it back relief....voila! Done!
The chips instead of a drill a spiral piece demonstrates a drill bit sharpened off center. Not east, not good results
It seems that the art of sharpening drill bits on a bench grinderhas been lost.
Would be much easier to buy a new one. That was a huge time expense.
that looks really easy 😂
Might of never been told this but... you're one sharp guy.
Think easier and faster, I will go buy a new one!!
Love your enginuity and DIY skills! If you're looking for a new idea or challenge... I would love to see if you could design a "pruning shears" attachement for a cordless drill(!?) Happy Holidays / Merry Christmas!
How to sqharpen a wood flat bit?
Agreed with first comment, however injeneral good idear. One point however don't ever put metal any were near a sanding disk it will catch the wood dust alight on the bottom side, perfect tinder 😮
🤔😂🤣
Animo...👍.
Yes sir!! Nice in a pinch but needs to be split point especially in steel.
Its amazing man 😮
Why not just use and angle grinder with a grinding disc and sharpen at different angles?!
Sharpening a drill bit properly really isn't that hard. But that's not it. Look at the small chips. The bit is going to overheat in no time at all. Once you learn the basics you don't need any jigs or angle finders. Freehand. Been doing it since high school, when they taught you real world information
What ever happened to the Drill Doctor for sharpening?
Why was the demo with a different drill bit ?????
❤❤❤❤
I would just use a grinding wheel if need be. If I'm in the shop i just use the thirty dollar drill doctor though lol time is money
Good work
Lmao, did I miss the “easy” part? Just go buy a new bit, if you’re using this week long project method of sharpening a drill bit…
We have dramatically different definitions of "easily". They make drill bit sharpeners. Cheaply would have been a descriptor.
That wasn't even cheaply, as he needed a power saw, file, drill, drill bit (ironic), tap, screwdriver and disc sander..
So for a 4 dollar drill I'm out an hour.... Really good video, but not the play for me homie!
Too much bull crap involved. Go buy a drill doctor and get it done quickly. Or simply throw out that dull bit and buy a new one.
Give me a grinding wheel and I can sharpen in about 30 seconds. A lot of wasted time. Good try
Tool box lakdi ka kitne ka hai
You didn't explain in what position the drill bit has to be clamped. I refer in terms of rotation.
Or get a new bit, whichever is easyer
I am confused. Is hands not sufficient to sharpen it with sharpner, why use that wood tighten tool? Is it necessary??
Buena idea
Which country are you from
If ya wanna lose a few fingers, follow his lead....
Please he got this!
who has all this equipment and time to do all this to sharpen a drill bit
He didn't grind any relief on the back side of each facet. That drill will make 2 holes, and then burn, losing the temper. If you don't understand what I have said, don't bother with this nonsense, just buy a new drill!
i agree, both the first and second part of your comment
@@jeghedderhenrik There's a right way, and a wrong way! If you can't do it right, don't try to be a teacher! (Thanks for your support!)
@@Pilgrimm21KZhead is full of hacks grifters and frauds, but sometimes you'll find a real expert teaching everything for free. I love KZhead but beginners need to be very careful.
I agree if u grind d back down just a bit it will cut longer
You may have the right idea, but your advice is pretty much just as bad as the dude making the video. Why would you buy a new drill when all you need is a new bit?
I'd g-clamp that piece down mate or it'll catch you out one day!
What a lot of fuss and work. It would have been quicker and cheaper to buy a new drill.
My friend, you are an amateur. You simply don't know how to sharpen a drill bit, under what angle depending on the metal you want to drill. Only amateurs will sharpen a drill bit on the side of the grinder stone. In this case the drill bit will be sharpen innequally coz a bigger amount of metal will be polished from the right side of the drill bit compared with a smaller amount of metal polished on the left side. More than that, you haven't polished that drill bit on its back, that drill bit will cut 3 or 4 holes and then it will get burned. You better learn more and only then try to post here.
it's really great. i had a problem drilling steel. maybe you have some answers? there's a 5mm thick general-purpose steel that I had trouble drilling. With a new drill bit, after just 2 drillings, the bit loses its shape. Even when I change the drill bit, nothing happens. I can't drill any more.
Get better bits and dont let them get too hot. Use a lubricating oil, drill a bit and stop when it starts smoking, wait let cool and then drill some more.
Coz you don't know how to sharpen a drill bit. You simply don't need that device coz using that device will prevent you rolling the drill bit in order to sharpen it properly. Read a book where a professional sharpen of a drill bit is described, than take that drill bit, make it straight and then sharpen it again, following those explanations. Anyway, the drill bit must be sharpened on the frontal side of the grinder stone, not on its side. Also take care to cool that drill bit in water periodically. Good luck!
Hey Dana lexan... I thought the same, BUT, on watching more closely you have to notice the cutting edge of the bit is vertical while fastened in the jig. Some audio to explain this might be necessary for first timers. I also sharpen mine by hand on the front of a grinding stone wheel. However this is a sanding pad and it's being used correctly.
Wait, he needed a sharp drill bit in order to sharpen a drill bit?! 🤣 I'm sorry but I would just go out and buy a cheap little bit sharpening kit and call it a day.
Please sharpen your saw blade.
He is desplaying a lot of scrap instead of getting straight to the point
This is easy? Ok, if you say so.
Cool but not very easy
😂….ok good luck with that.
Stop ..Just put it on your bench top grinder, you'll be finished in under a minute..
Your joking right. We just freehand sharpen drills on a bench grinder. You can use a scale to get flutes the same or you can buy drill sharpener guage. You can also relieve the backside. Get some experience and you'll be able to sharpen drills without making all that up.
If you know how to, jig is pointless. And with this instruction loads of people will make scribes from drill bits 😅
You have to be kidding me… All that work just hold the drillbit up to a grinder?
NOTHING ABOUT THIS SAYS EASY TO ME
I can sharpen by hand better lol drill was chipping swarf worst example of sharp drill I’ve ever seen!!!
How is this easy lol
How about the bit that is used for the "sharpened" test is NOT the one he supposedly sharpened 😂😂😂 It's a larger size and WAYYYYY shorter than the one he supposedly sharpened. Just saying!
I can do it better free hand. This is the hard way.
No thanks. I will just buy a sharpening machine
All that for a £1 buy 😂😂😂😂
My my what a total waste of time.....
Bullst
Don't follow this ! This is not the way and will be off-center
Cheaper to go buy one with all that effort
Your saw needs a new blade
