  • Yo in training: "Lyx, we're going up against the two best defenders and boomers in the world. Let's consider not going complete yolo agression unless we have to. Just look at what happened to Spain". Yo after seeing his gold lamed in minute four: "So that's the kind of fight it's gonna be. Fine - Lyx, give it to them." The rest is history.

    • @@anblueboot5364 Norway didn't even field a national team for a really long time because they were 4v4, and Mbl didn't become good until only a couple of years ago. In many ways, you could consider Mbl and Viper kind of friendly rivals, rather than teammates. And with all that, Yo has become just as good as Viper the last year or two. Viper isn't the same powerhouse he used to be. And Mbl has never really been in the discussion, even if he has been consistently top 5-15 for several years. That Yo and lyx won is not really that surprising result any more. Norway was favourites, sure, but not by a lot. The importance of Lyx was probably not due to his skill, but that he could pull out a different style of playing, while Mbl, Yo, and Viper are all more standard. In short, I think this was a difference between the weakest link in both teams, while Viper and Yo are equally matched.

And 24h later this sick final, so great! There is no doubt Viper and MbL are the best 1v1 players here, but it was really nice seeing China teamwork. The best TEAM won, a good lesson here for the lazy boys ;) Also really cool from both teams to try such different strats, it gets really boring to see knights/arbalest vs knights/arbalest all the time and what did we get here? Malay elephants in a no water map, Korean towers in Nomad, lot's of uniques and so on !! I think Lyx won our hearts here. The way he gave everything to give time to Mr.Yo to Boom in peace was insane. I mean look at the second game. Both Viper and MbL are top players, they know Mongols have to be stopped before post Imp and still they spent the whole game without being able to scratch Mr.Yo eco thanks to Lyx "sacrifice". Again I think China was really playing together here while Norway was more feeling like 1+1 vs 2

    • This has always been the problem with Norway team games. It's why Viper is better with Tatoh or Daut. A good team needs one player to do something crazy, while the other player providing pure quality. Mbl doesn't have the creativity of Tatoh, Rubenstock or Lyx and Viper is no longer so much better than everyone else he can carry alone any more.

  • Congrats to the winning team, I thought it was deserved and the scoreline was a fair reflection of the performance. I have to say that throughout the torny, I have been hugely impressed with Lyx. You always expect great performances from Yo, he's a top 3 player IMO, but Lyx has always seemed a little on the yolo side, and whilst that's fun, it's not something I've considered to make him at the very top. But really if there was a winning reason here, it wasn't Yo, it was Lyx, and really, good for him.

  • Great AOE Content all around! Props to everybody in the AOE community, all of whom are responsible for the resurgence of this legendary game. Kudos to the players for love and dedication and to their top-class finger work; to the casters, who are basically producers, for their everlasting work in organizing and creating new and interesting events that keep the community saturated with the best AOE content ever to arise out of a game that is many years older than KZhead itself; to the people at Ensemble Studios at Microsoft for listening to their fans, their continuing support, revival, and renewal of a game over a decade past its shelf life, modernizing it and making it a great game to play today, and even creating a very long and highly anticipated sequel at a point where most developers would have essentially declared the series dead (half-life 3 or lfd3 anybody?); and the loudest shout out - from the top of a castle! - to the FANS of the series, the casual players, the hardcore, the old fans and the new, the developers, content creators, and core AOE constituency that has sustained it and built it up to what it is today. The most beautiful thing about this game, to me, is that everybody has a different, but similar, experience in their getting to know this game. People in the AOE community continue to drag AOEII from the tendrils of the video game death, where almost all video games go to die, and each of us contributes directly to making the AOE community one of the best video game communities in the world. Thank you for reading my long-winded tribute. 14 p.s. Sometimes I prefer to listen rather than watch, sort-of like sports on the radio, and when the colors confuse the casters it confuses me! Idk if its worth doing, or if anyone else listens to it from time to time, but maybe defining colors at the start and sticking with it rather than allowing the players to change their colors in a tournament setting would help! Just a thought xP

They couldn't deny yos gold, barely got vill kills - and Viper wasn't prepared for the next wave of archers. Imagine he had sent 1 vill to palisade the south. Even in the 3rd match when they won, they lacked the killer instinct and almost seemed scared of China. They had mangonels and camels at the opposition base and could have done a bit of damage. They got scared and pulled out when China had nothing. At one point Norway had about 40 military, China had around 10 and they pulled back to their own base and were trying to defend against a tiny army. At the same time they had more than double the villagers too

I mean it literally compares to the Worlds League of Legends production quality or huge gaming tournament(dota2 invitational). Casting was amazing. PLAYERS of course amazing which all makes for awesome games to watch. You guys should be hugely proud of yourselves for putting on such a great tournament, seriously guys bravo.

    • I watch Yo and Lyx live almost every week. Lyx likes to comment on other players with a mocking tone, but he is actually a very polite gentleman. Yo, on the other hand, knows how to create "show effect" (or punchline) during interviews and live broadcasts. The personal friendship between Yo, Lyx and Viper is better than many people imagined. After all, Viper was sick when he came to China a few years ago, and Yo and Paladin took care of him for a week. The foreign players who have the closest relationship with Yo and Lyx are TheMax and Villese of the Finnish team. Yo and Lyx called TheMax and Villese "屌丝" (pubic hair), which means very close and like-minded friends in Chinese slang, saying that they like to get together to do things that others despise, such as playing nomad map together all day long... … Anyway, the way Yo and Lyx talk might be a bit special, but it's not savage, don't take it too seriously.

  • As a pro AOE watcher with 800 elo I have a lot of weight in this comment, but I really think that meta players like Viper, Hera, dogao etc can learn to play like Lyx more. I think it will improve them as players a Lyx. Meta wins 9/10 games but that 1 game where they can learn to be messy, 1st is hard to learn for your opponent and also makes it easier to play against Lyx, Rubenstock, Hoang. Just my opinion. LOVED the tournament. So much fun to see these teams fight.

  • I was really hoping to see a standard team island game by China A in this tournament. But the only team island game they played was a home map for Brazil and they somehow still manage to win with Celt and Teuton. I really think that it was part of their draft strategy: they would only pick team island at their very last game and by that time, most good Civs would be used. Lyx would cause chaos in the early game regardless of what civ he uses, I believe he at least had some ideas on how to pest around with every civ in the game. The weaker civs would often not have a flexible game plan to deal with Lyx, thus buying Yo enough time to end the game.

  • Hi T90. Again thanks to you and all the people involved for organizing this event. Just a quick remark for next time. I am probably not the only one here thinking Green and Yellow are not the best colors to pick, they are hard to spot on the minimap and can be easily mixed during the fights for the viewers. I am not colorblind but sometimes it is hard to follow, partciularly on a phone screen. Is there any chance those colors are changed one day? I think Red and Blue are fine and maybe Black and White/Grey could be easier to spot. Maybe. Anyway thanks again for everything.

  • AOE should make a patch were troops get EX points for battle that translates to attack points if they survivedlike they have more battle experience than new troops. This could be a really cool layer to the game, arranging more ex units vs new recruit units. just have like +! attack or something like that (nothing huge but enough) also would encourage saving units during battles
