on board the fastest RC-Jet ever

2017 ж. 27 Мам.
1 358 307 Рет қаралды

This is the plane I tried to improve my Guinness World record for the fastest RC-Jet with in 2016.
The plane is a design by Christoph Meier, Tunc Uzun and myself.
It is powered by a Behotec JB180 turbine engine which is manually started. It has no starter.
The max speed is 750 Km/h.
The plane is already in this video: • 744 KMH 462 MPH THE WO...
The camera is a Mobius Action Camera V3 with lens D.
For the ones who think that the video is a accelerated version:
the date and time in the lower corner is made by the camera for you. So it is NOT a fake!!
The flights where done during the Pulse Jet Meeting 2017 at the Airfield Rothenburg / Germany.

However, in the event of any lag in the video stream for even a small fraction of a second could be fatal. All you need then is an on board autopilot flight control system with radar and a gyro inertial nav system to take control in the event of a video stream hiccup. But seriously, that's a beautiful work of art-science. Now if you could scale it up enough to carry one 175 lb person...🤔

  • I'm happy this holds the record. Most beautiful RC aircraft I've seen, and certainly one of the most elegantly designed of any aircraft, RC or full-scale. You and Cristoph have much to feel proud of! What was the design process like? Did many full-scale aircraft (or aspects of them) serve as inspirations, or was it purely a matter of aerodynamics/engineering from scratch? Both my wife and I are also very happy that the world's fastest/scariest RC plane is a vibrant fuschia pink. :D Is it primarily for visibility? Plus I am extra impressed at the belly landings/scuffed paint. This aircraft clearly does not need to be perfect or pristine to be able to do insane things.

    @HowlingMoonCinemas@HowlingMoonCinemas6 жыл бұрын
    • HowlingMoonCinemas I was thinking that too but watched the other video and noticed it just lands flat so it needs to be on top- plus it needs to be low down for least drag and in the middle means it can see forwards and backwards from the same same camera mount. I would guess this is pretty much the only viable place for it. ( I think...) Would be really cool to have the camera built into the nose though, maybe behind a mounded plexiglass nosecone?

      @markotik75@markotik755 жыл бұрын
    • Perhaps some method of fiber optics to send views from multiple locations and be collated for simultaneously viewing? Also, the individual lenses could be mounted behind a clear and aerodynamic surface to prevent damage, maintain streamlining and give multiple viewing options.

  • Flying this plane LOS is restricting its flight envelope.....You dont have GPS onboard to ascertain Groundspeed? Radar is very unpredictable.

    @EnglishTurbines@EnglishTurbines7 жыл бұрын
    • Just follow the link in the description. Speed was meassured with two high speed cameras 1000fpm with a distance of 200 meters. It is extremely precise and shows ground speed only.

      @TheGhostflier@TheGhostflier6 жыл бұрын
    • I dont doubt how you have measured the speed....but its a question about which part of the flight you recorded...Using an onboard GPS gives a constant speed readout for the ENTIRE flight, not just a small part of it.

  • Absolutely incredible. Thank you so much for putting the camera on the plane, it is a real pleasure for us to watch! I currently have the unofficial fastest FPV plane in the world (gps fround speed 249mph), recognised on this forum: fpvlab.com/forums/showthread.php?20039-Personal-Bests-V5-(LEADERBOARDS). It really would not be a great weight or size expense to equip your plane with FPV, It may not be sensible to fly it via FPV, but the overlayed data on an OSD on the video would be great to see. I have found that my planes reach a much greater 'peak' speed at some moment during the flight, than is measured when trying to get through timing gates. I would think your plane is over 800kmh at some points. Best regards. Rupert.
