'Nànnuflày' (Fulfilled) from the album 'Elwan,' available now.
Order ELWAN here: found.ee/tinariwen_store
In the Sahara desert, an old Tuareg man comes back to the camp where he grew up for a party. He remembers the joys and the torments of the nomadic life he lived with a friend who has since deceased: memories from their naive childhood in the sand dunes, the adventures they lived during their teenage years, the fights and the dramas of their adult lives… Their friendship tells us the story of hearty people living in lands of loneliness.

"There was a time
I lived fulfilled.
Life taught me that
It can often change.
The one you find in solitude
Is prisoner of egotistical desires.
I have a friend I can trust
Who quenches the thirst
That burns in my heart.
I walk in his footsteps
Pursuing memories built
On a dune that's always moving.
No sleepwalking, don't keep me apart
I'm through sleepwalking, god be in my heart
No more sleepwalking, been asleep too long
No more sleepwalking, keep me with you go"

  • I have seen this music video so many times and I think I understand now. It's a tale about the old ways in conflict with the modern industrialized world. The dark glasses on the goat as a novelty appeared so unexpectedly, the diesel vehicles replacing the camels, the giant power lines disrupting the shape of the virgin desert and that giant black liquid creature that ressembles a tick is clearly the evil Oil industry. The song sounds very chill and melancholic but the lyrics are quite pessimistic and sad. It also feels like a tale about the loss of a friend that had the courage to fight. Love from another god forsaken country.

I´m from central Europe and we know the geography of Africa (the countries, capitals, basic history etc.), but we don´t get many news from Africa. For example, we don´t learn about technical inventions in Africa, or about writers and new books. Many people in my country think all Africans live in huts. I really, really don´t like this and I want to change it, but I don´t know how. Fortunately, at least Nigeria is making its name as the "fashion capital of the world" and Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie is becoming famous as a writer. I hope it´s just the beginning :-)

  • Music of Tinariwen is rich cause it has a lot of culture behind it. This type of music is not commercial or for the consumers who want to eat junk. This type is for the thinking and intelligent people. They play an old form of blues music and some speculate the origin of blues from which rock and roll and jazz evolved from these guys. Tinariwen is setting new standards for global music and these guys are the real deal. I hope sahara gets peace and the whole world gets peace. They are also good examples that muslims are not terrorists and can do wonders in art and they have a rich culture.

  • The first time I heard this song I didn't expect to have Mark Lanegan jump into the song out of the blue. I remember thinking "omg that's Lanegan!" and whenever he collaborated with anyone meant those guys were good so I started a deep dive into Tinariwen and was in love 🖤

  • Des sonorités sublimes, qui invitent au voyage vers des contrées immenses... des mélodies séculaires qui rassurent. Et ce tout, dessine un immense sourire, le sourire de l'espérance, le sourire de la vie.

  • My interpretation : they are freedom loving, fiercely independent desert nomads; the bug symbolises the threats to their way of life that are inexorably advancing to crush them: modernity, nation-states that draw borders in their homelands and salafist invaders all telling them that their lives are wrong and they need to change. But armed with the power of love and sound and fury they resist against the modern-day Goliaths till they slay the beast with their guitar! Long live you guys and all free nations ^^ brotherly love & respect from France
