  • "Hollywood is a system that protects abusers." ALL systems protect their abusers, especially the most powerful ones, whether it be in entertainment, politics, corporations, law enforcement, religion, sports, or most any other community. People at the top of these hierarchies almost always circle the wagons to protect each other, because a lot can ride on the system's clean image and it's ability to stay powerful, relevant and/or make tons of money. Abusers thrive within this institutional protection. It gives them a safe arena to abuse with impunity while their associates either stand by and do nothing (often out of fear) or actively enable the abuse. I'm glad for this movie, hopefully it will serve to educate, but we must remember these issues are ubiquitous, historical and ongoing, and not relegated to Hollywood alone.

    • People with absolute power abuse it. We need to change our society so people with power don't have the ability to wield it against others, like Harvey Weinstein, the CIA, many police officers, and so many others have done for years.

    • It will serve to educate NO ONE. The problem lies in the greater SOCIETY ignoring the problem. This is just another example of what I coined as: Apologist Cinema. Take a problem one knows exists and is, as you so eruditely pointed out, ubiquitous and make a movie about it that will change nothing in the grander scale but serves rather as a calmative to the supposedly outraged masses. It's a joke really but people have been buying their brand of drug for almost a century. The belief that movies can change society is, in a word: insane. But of course look at the species. Born insane.

Unlike those others, this will be ignored with a pointedness unlike we've ever seen before - because the movie business just wants to ignore that this ever happened. • This could be a well crafted and well acted story, but if there is nothing about the colleagues who turned a blind eye then it's only telling part of the story...

  • Literally everyone in this movie would have worked with Harvey Weinstein 5 years ago and hilarious this is exactly the sort of award baiting garbage he helped pioneered. Respect to the producers for honouring his memory.

    • That's the point. He used his position to abuse. Good producers are replaceable. Men are replaceable. And anyone can tell this story and show that. Men who want to stories like these have something to hide.

  • Some people with power and influence will abuse it, please be safe out there. Don't meet anyone at a hotel room or late at night who claims this is business unless you are ok with the more than likely possibility of something more than business happening.

  • We have all heard of the casting couch from 50 years ago. It was never a secret we just didn't know who participated. Had no idea it was still going on. That's the shocking part.
