Today we're testing out the Paul Chen Bamboo Mat katana. It's made of a special high alloy steel that's supposed to be extremely durable and great at keeping it's edge. So let's see if this $1000 sword can cut through metal and come out unscathed.

  • This blade seems amazing. As ive trained pa-kua and ken-jutsu i was easily a bit disturbed by somethings id like you to take note, cause if you do, i assure you its gonna greatly positively impact your cutting form. The two major drawbacks that i can see yours not fully utilising the strenghs in that blade. One, is that you're focusing too much on the natural teardrop shape characteriscs of the blade for cutting, instead of actually fully sliding it to make it a no only more precise and concise cut, but spreading the impact into a larger area. And the second would be that since youre using the very tips on the blade, what you end up lacking is actually blade real space. If you stop and watch the video in slow, as i did to make sure i wasnt crazy when i saw it first time, some of your cuts didnt totally sliced tru not because you lost too much power, but because you actually tried to slide (as in softer objects we tend to do more) but you end up retracting it before youre actually done. There you have it, if you master just those two things, you'll see how thats gonna improve your cutting flow. Im sorry for my bad english in advance, this is not my mother language lol. Loved the intro btw really cool, just subbed

  • I hope one day it's a complete anime where Cerberus gets a sentient katana with a dragon soul inside (so basically the plot for Beyblade) and every battle he wins he takes people's blades and judges them at home on the Matt's and discover s the unique powers inside like the beasts then he fights through a tournament and one of the swords he claims is evil and kills his entire dojo so he gets his grandfathers dragon blade to face the anime final boss with the dementor katana and Cerberus arms dead students have become the ultimate ghost Ronin at the end all his friends are like force ghosts that died and are Ronin warriors seeking revenge in the afterlife fighting alongside Cerberus and they all have a Massive Lord Of The Rings battle in the end but the beasts all escape the swords and then it's basically Godzilla and Kong appears while the two main characters Duel then boom.... Cut to black .... Sequel

  • Personally im more of a longsword guy, since i am more familiar with them but still, you can not deny the beauty of the katana. Also the rich history that is intertwined with the blade is something i can really respect. Edit: I have read both josjikawa taiko and josjikawa moesasji. So i know about the samurai but im just less familiar with handeling a katana compared to a longsword.

    @Dagothdaleet@Dagothdaleet2 жыл бұрын
  • I think I have my own saying that I say to myself. " A sword is as strong as the wielder" In anime, you can break a building with a few hits so, you'll be able to cut it in half with one chop. IRL, if you try to do the same then you'll break your hand so, the blade will most definitely break. Real life is not as great as the anime life, obviously.

  • I work with aluminum, steel, iron and stainless steel all day, every day and aluminum is super soft. I believe that aluminum is probably .024 or (24g) thick or less. Which you can bend easily with your hands. Chances of aluminum damaging your blade which is hardened steel is pretty much 0%. As for that galvanized you mentioned .01875 or (26g) is metal used for duct work and is super flimsy. There's really not much strength to the 26g or below. You can cut steel or galvinized steel up to 20g (.035) or even some times 18g (.047) with just tin snips. Steel in terms of strength only gets strong past 18g or (.047) and even then 18g considered thin by most. More than likely the only reason the steel damaged your blade is due to the fact it hit it on the top edge, if you would of rolled the top edge I bet your blade wouldn't have been damaged. Might be helpful to do in future videos if you plan on continuing to cut metal with your katakanas. Also one last thing is you may want to tighten the sheet in that man made rig of yours. Perhaps just adding some wood bolts run it through the wood then file down the tips to clamp those pieces of metal in place so they don't come off and hit you in your face. Overall the video was interesting to watch. I'm just giving positive criticism to help you improve your content. O yeah and I forgot to mention don't buy 6061 aluminum since that stuff is semi hardened. So there is a chance your katakana could be damaged from it. I would suggest getting 3032 aluminum since it's a fairly soft aluminum.

  • I've liked some of your videos, but I'm a subscriber after this one. I really liked your humility and willingness to show your bad cuts too. That sword looks really awesome. I personally don't like a bohi anyway and the sori looks ideal too. If you mentioned the blade length, I missed it. I tend to like longer swords, at least 29 & 1/2 inches. It really is a bummer though about the saya. I would seriously consider buying this sword if it wasn't for that. Awesome looking hamon for sure. I don't think I like that tsuba though just from looking at it. Great video, I'll be checking out more for sure.

  • I felt my heart stop as soon as you hit that steel sheet, I could not ever imagine trying any of this with my Katana, mine is T10 Steel costed around $300 but to me, it's not about the cost, it's the sentimental value and connection I have with my blade.
