You could see Tyler's face when they took the noose out, he looked so uncomfortable. After they filmed the scene it killed me to see Tyler sitting there not talking and rubbing his face. Alison Colby I was watching the beginning and saw him be super sweet and nervous, and then that immediate fear with the noose. Even at the end how he was so nervous, fidgeting with his hands. As soon as I saw it, my stomach dropped. It's a powerful image, even more so when you've been through suicidal tendencies. I can't imagine putting it around my neck. He's strong.
It killed me because when I saw it I knew what he was thinking about and I was thinking about it to and I felt so bad.

I felt the reaction on a more personal level because I've been in his position I've been to that side and once for a school play I had to play a character that hung himself and whem the noose went around my neck even during the play I froze up and the had to run and take it off and I start fidgeting trying not to cry but broke down on stage anyway

No one will be excluded just because they only just now came into the blur of things. I understand exactly what you mean about the noose part as well. I wanted to cry right there. If you are just getting into it, you should listen to some of their previous and new songs. My personal favorites are Before You Start Your Day, Isle of Flightless Birds, Oh Ms Believer, Guns For Hands, and Car Radio. Those are the older ones. They are putting out new songs from their newest albums as well. There is Fairly Local, Tear In My Heart, Stressed Out, Lane Boy, and Ride. Ride was released about an hour ago. Their new album comes out May 19. Sorry if you already knew this but I wanted to help out just in case. If you want to find out anymore you can visit their website. Tyler is the one who came up with the video. He knew the noose would be there. He didn't have to put it there but he did. And when he said "can someone hang this?" He was joking. And after the noose part he sat there because he needed to catch his breath. He could fully breathe from holding his neck up against a pulling weight.

at 4:50, you can clearly tell something's off. Tyler THROWS the noose off and SHOOTS UP off the table/chair/greenscreen thing, and doubles over. you can tell he's clearly fighting tears and/or a panic attack. he tried to shrug it off, to say it was that he had to hold his head up, but i think it was different. at 4:03 you can also see something's not right. he's not acting guys. that's actual fear in his eyes. it looks like he's fighting a bad memory. they didn't cancel the video because of this, though. I definitely don’t want to talk about what I’m actually feeling in that moment, so I talk about something else that is only slightly bothering me. So yes, Tyler does seem very down in this video. But forget about that for a second. After the noose scene, Tyler says "That is like the weirdest like hardest thing you've ever explained to someone like, keeping your neck from falling back..." So imagine yourself being told that, for a video, you need to put yourself in a position that is painful, uncomfortable, and possibly dangerous. Also, this situation represents a way for _anyone_ (even you) to hurt themselves. Think about that. It's like someone telling you "You're going to hang off of this cliff for a bit but don't let go or you'll get hurt." You know? It's scary and uncomfortable. This is relevant: I have asthma and when I have severe attacks I get very very scared for my own life. I keep thinking about the fact that that day could be the day I day. It's frightening to think. So Tyler is here WITH A NOOSE AROUND HIS NECK and _people are pulling on it_. OBVIOUSLY he looks uncomfortable (and brought to tears) by this. It's _terrifying_. So maybe he was depressed, it's possible. But also, it's frightening and uncomfortable to be in a position like that, so Tyler is okay. Your smol bean is fine. Friend, Please understand what I'm saying here because yes, this video makes me cry, and reading the comments is just making me feel even worse.

+very serious person It's not a leash. It's a noose. Nooses are what people put around their necks and tighten them in order to hang themselves, which is committing suicide. Tyler was suffering from depression, so of course it bothered him.

When he sits up he's like 'yeah yeah i'm cool' and then at 5:06 he opens his mouth like he's about to yawn and then he just doesn't. That lyrics in the second verse about the noose and your mind are the lyrics that saved me and have helped me through the most. And that part means so much and the lyrics are so powerful. Its so clear that the noose has an extremely strong meaning to tyler when he sat up and just put his hand on his face you can just tell that part killed him because he had to live what he was saying in his lyrics. Tylers mind is so beautiful to us but to him it is destructive and rebuilding in so many ways

Anna Borkowska I wrote this to another comment but I'll add something for this one: no offense, but I think you're over-thinking it a bit too much. I mean yeah, this part was probably really hard for him, but by his reaction and what he said- I think he just simply had hard time keeping his neck/head in the air while the rest of his body is resting. try doing that- it really hurts your neck after a while and getting up from that makes you feel dizzy. "it's like, the weirdest, the hardest thing you ever explain to someone like, keeping your neck from not falling backwards like that." yeah, you could say he didn't want to make a big deal out of it. but there's still the option that he was just dizzy from getting up and in relief after holding his neck up for probably more than 5 minutes. and as for the "fake yawn": keeping your head this way probably hurts your jaw as well, so I assume he tried to move it just like you do when/if your jaw hurts for some reason. notice how he also moves his head backwards and touches his neck, which is a natural reaction to pain.

He isn't crying guys calm down. Yes, he had a hard time as a teen but I don't think that he had bad thoughts at that part. It was just the position that was super uncomfortable. Like he said "that's a weird/hard thing" he had to hold his head up, the blood was rushing in his head and he had to lip sync all at the same time. That hurts if you have to do it for a long time. It was a physical pain and not a psychic one

I like how josh is always there when tyler needs him. You can tell by his reactions to the noose that he wasn't comfortable on set, but you always saw him smiling when Josh was there. He's always there to joke around with Tyler in a way that he(Tyler) doesn't get consumed by his demons). Josh Dun is the epitome of a true best friend.

It’s been so many years and every time I hear the song I still need to close my eyes. he and josh, this band, it means the world to me. to us. that courage they have has saved countless lives. countless.

perhaps tyler reacted the way he did becuase he just wasnt looking forward to filming the noose sequence. he had to hold his neck up for an overwhelmingly long time. and perhaps the "can somebody hang this up there" was simply dark humor, considering the tone of voice he said it in. it is possible that he was depressed in the filming of this video, but why should anyone jump to such extreme conclusions? idk just thinking logically.

Yeah, when they pulled it out of the box you could see the regret on his face. He knew they would make him wear it, and that's probably why he doesn't want to mention it again.
You guys realize he agreed to do this right? No one forced him to do anything. Lol you're all so dramatic. He was uncomfortable because he had to keep his neck suspended on the green-screen mound so it could transition into the noose scene, NOT because he had to pretend to wear a noose. I highly doubt he refuses to use the word anymore for fear of someone having him wear it in a music video. That's ridiculous. Besides, the music video portrays someone overcoming mental illness, hence the noose breaking when they all pull it. The noose set piece is used as a positive aspect. So there's no reason why he should be against using it to the point of completely erasing a word from his songwriting.
