It's true the security counsel is largely impotent in hard power (boots on the ground. But meetings such as this do have a affect on sentiment the counsel still has significant soft power (aid agreements, financial support, international relations). Many of the members of the security counsel are already sending weapons and supply's to Ukraine, this meeting may result in a increase in that from them as well as other country's

The problem is this if Russia did nothing Ukraine would join Europe and NATO. What that means is American military bases and other European defence bases set up in Ukraine in close proximity to Russia border. So Putin had to stop this even though war is terrible and nobody wants war. If Putin did nothing then Russia would have had all its enemies on its doorstep

But meetings such as this do have a affect on sentiment the counsel still has significant soft power (aid agreements, financial support, international relations). Many of the members of the security counsel are already sending weapons and supply's to Ukraine, this meeting may result in a increase in that from them as well as other country's

The problem is this if Russia did nothing Ukraine would join Europe and NATO. What that means is American military bases and other European defence bases set up in Ukraine in close proximity to Russia border.
