    • No this is the whole world. The reason why iPhones are higher is because only Apple makes them, and they only release 3-4 a year. Meanwhile every other company uses Android, which is why Android is the most popular operating system, however iPhones are the most popular phones themselves

  • Just goes to show how Nokia lost it's position as the leading mobile manufacturer by rejection modernity as how we saw the first nokia smartphones dominating the iphones still. Same has happened with Toyota in response to Tesla and BYDs of the world. Seems japan has a hard time accepting newer technologies not originating in japan.

  • The good old days when mobile phones weighed under 100 grams. The Nokia 3310 and 1100 were THE most popular and widespread phones, as for as I remember. I always thought that the Moto Razr was popular. I had one in the 2000's, and I loved it. It would just fit in your pocket.

    • It's for the whole world . The stats are for sales in a year . Don't forget that , It's not the majority of people who change their phone every year. Then you have those who have no need for a phone at all , ie the very young and the very elderly . Add in some other factors then you look at the population of the world. I think a peak of 250 000 000 sales in a year is for the world.

  • Well the data backing this animation is incomplete or plain wrong. It shows the Motorola Startac stopping sales in the early 1999 which I know is patently false. I know this because I purchase a startac in spring of 2001, so they continued to sell through at least 2001, a full two years after this data animation indicates they stopped selling.
