Do they have no ceiling based fire suppression system there??
Always great vidéo very informatives!!!
How do I get there from Washington Dc downtown?
I've been there probably 20 times. It's awesome. Concorde, Enola Gay, Constellation, Space Shuttle, and a million other highlights.
Absolutely, it's brilliant!
@PaulStewartAviation Don't quote me on this, but I think after 3 the parking is free (thus the entire experience is free)!
@@rickrudd interesting. I got an uber there so I didn't need a parking ticket (although the uber wasn't cheap!)
Same here. I’m lucky enough to live close enough whenever I get a little bit of time I head up there.
@jonwalker3151 I live in Roanoke, but drive to DC frequently for work. It's such a great collection.
Back in 1984 my father took me to the Paul E. Garber facilty in Silverhill Maryland. Its where the smithsonian kept all of the planes they could not display on the mall and the restoration projects. After seeing all the restored planes, including a Hawker Hurricane straight from 1940 We go to a huge Quanset Hut hanger in the back lot. We enter and it is dimly lit. I look over to my right and there on the floor is a Focke Wulf fuselage which is the one now on display at Dulles. Then as we go farther in I look over and directly next to me to the left there is a huge silver round object. I stand back and I recognize it is a B-29. I then notice the cockpit, then look down and I see the words "Enola Gay." I cant beleive I have the most famous plane in history right in front of me! I take my right hand and place it on the name knowing the significance of this plane. I went to visit the Enola Gay at Dulles about 6 years ago with my son. Its now totally rebuilt and on display away from any hands that would want to touch it.
I visited America with my son in 2019 - I made it a priority to see a space shuttle as it was a great memory of my childhood seeing the Columbia launch for the first time. When you walk in onto the mezzanine and see the SR71 with the Shuttle in the background it was quite emotional 😊
Yes it’s a great view from that platform looking at the sr71 and orbiter behind it. I still remember being amazed the first time i visited
This museum is heaven to any aviation enthusiasts. When I went there last time, I stayed the whole day until the security would almost kick me out for closing. 😁Better yet, it's free!
I think back in the decades I was a regular at Silver Hill Facility where the Smithsonian was originally a ton of these aircraft I climbed through personally including the Enola Gay. This was prior to any restorations. As a young pilot I totally got the history of these birds and knew them well. I wanted to be a docent ( tour guide) but the older people were against it and made no bones about it. I knew Mr Paul Garber well back then, he was such a gentleman. My favorite was Kt. Brookes who hung around the Spad as it was HIS Spad from WW1. He loved that bird. Got to meet people that you read in the history books such as Paul Tibbetts, Tony LeVier, Bob Morgan just to name a few. My grandmother is in the book Women in Aviation. Florence Parlett’s. Airplanes are in our family blood.
This facility feels like magic. So many things that you literally can’t see anywhere else in the world. The Enola Gay too! Standing in front of it is an incredible experience. To be standing within reach of a plane that dropped a bomb that heavily shaped 20th century and especially now.
What a great new years surprise from Paul Stewart! Thanks again for all of the work you do Paul!!
My pleasure!
@@PaulStewartAviationAbsolutely agree Paul! 😊
Love that museum! Thanks for taking the time to make this video!
Glad you enjoyed it!
My dad is a docent there! It is a great museum and the Udvar Hazy family does come back to the museum often!
Really want to get to this museum so bad, but it may be a few years. Thanks for giving us the video!
Cheers! Glad you enjoyed it. Now I'm working on the Museum of Flight video in Seattle! :)
Another great video! Actually enough light in this museum to see. I'm looking at you, Dayton.
Agreed! :D
Love your videos! I have to visit for myself one of these days.
You should!
Happy News year from Würzburg Bavaria Germany 🎉🎉🎉🎉
HNY from Australia!
Thanks for doing these videos Paul. Have a Great New Year
Great Episode! Very nice to watch.
Cheers! Glad you enjoyed it. Now I'm working on the Museum of Flight video in Seattle! :)
love you buddy, keep doing what you do!!!!
WOW! THANK YOU SO MUCH SIR! Sharing with everyone I know. Watching from the Philippines. You have one of the best channels on KZhead. Great camera work also. TOPS!🎉
So nice of you
I don’t always comment but your channel is one of the best aviation-based ones I’ve seen in a while. I definitely enjoyed the museum tours so please keep it . I’ve been to this museum a few times I used to live down the road in Fairfax, brings back memories… cheers.
Cheers, thanks! If I know people enjoy them, I'll keep making them :)
I totally agree with that sentiment
This is a very cool place. The Arado 234 , FW 190 , He 219 , B-17 , B-29 , A-6 Intruder , F-4 Phantom , UH-1 Huey , AH-1 Cobra and SR-71 are my favorite planes in the museum. Excellent video Paul. 😊👍✈
You're welcome!
Paul, thank you for your videos, appreciate all the hard work that goes into these videos! I have vicariously visited so many aircraft museum now, I don't need actually do it in person. Thanks!
Cheers! Glad you enjoyed it. Now I'm working on the Museum of Flight video in Seattle! :)
This museum must be protected at all costs, the history contained within it is priceless
Really enjoyed it. You're a natural for this stuff👍 I was impressed by the care of aircraft placement. I like how it's not about holding a grudge, just recognizing the place in history each holds.
Cheers! Glad you enjoyed it. Now I'm working on the Museum of Flight video in Seattle! :)
I just discovered your channel, I've been binge watching all of your catalog, thank you for all the hard work that goes into making these videos.
You are so welcome! I’m off to Pima, Nebraska, Duxford and cosford in a few months :)
Paul thank you for your passion in producing detailed videos regarding classic aircraft. .
Cheers! Glad you enjoyed it. Now I'm working on the Museum of Flight video in Seattle! :)
Excellent video. It was a real treat to see that Concorde. I had the great pleasure of flying aboard that actual Concorde, F-BVFA, on a two hour charter discovery flight from Toronto to Bermuda and back. That was way back in 1987. I will have to make a trip to that museum sometime soon and get reacquainted with her.
Cheers! Glad you enjoyed it. Now I'm working on the Museum of Flight video in Seattle! :)
I got to visit here in 2019. I was amazed and super excited to be there. I knew the history of some of the aircraft in the museum to an extent, but I never fully realized or appreciated the real historic significance of every single aircraft there. This video did an amazing job at really putting the historical aspect in perspective. Thanks for this video Paul! I had to hit Subscribe!
Cheers! I’m back to the usa in August for more filming at pima, sac and a few museums in california. And with a new camera that works better in low light :)
@@PaulStewartAviation hell yeah. Looking forward to it.
This is awesome! Thank you!!
I look forward to seeing more. Keep them coming please.
Awesome museum and video, thank you for sharing.
Glad you enjoyed it
Definitely a museum to visit one day!
I may never get to go to any world wide great air plane museum. But this is the next best thing. Keep it going Paul👍👍👍
Thank you so much!
Amazing
fantastic
Awesome museum, and just outside of the main entrance you can watch tons of aircraft arrive /depart from Dulles
An amazing museum
Happy New Year, Paul! Love these museum tours.
Cheers! HNY! Glad you enjoyed it. Now I'm working on the Museum of Flight video in Seattle! :)
My favorite museum. I've visited several times.
I spent three hours in here back in 2021... suh an amazing collection of technology and history! I wish they had more space though... so many of the displays are cramped and almost staked on top of one another
I live near the museum and I don’t get bored to just go and admire all these amazing machines
Outstanding. I’m planning on returning this winter.
Thank you for bringing a piece of home to the internet. I used to live 10 minutes west of there. Now, I'm stuck in KS.
Love it, along with some context for what I visit often
Glad to hear it!
I went here to see Discovery and ended up staying the whole day and still need to go back to see everything. Amazing collection. Also to viewers: don't forget to go up in the museum tower and listen to ATC as you watch the planes at Dulles from above.
Great video Paul, as usual! I think I enjoyed the German aircraft the most as well. Good to see people keeping aviation history alive!
Glad you enjoyed it
The Enola Gay, did not go directly to the Smithsonian. I saw the Enola Gay for the first time in 1972, at the Sandia Atomic Museum. It was in a compound beside the main building, and not only was it in pieces, but it looked derelict to the point that I wondered if it was ever going to be re-assembled and put on display. I am grateful to see that it was restored, as it has such an important place in aviation history.
An absolutely wonderful tour. Thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks for sharing this with us all!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great video! I live not too far from Udvar-Hazy and visit every couple months. It is such an awesome air and space museum and I feel so lucky to live near it.
Brillant ! Thank you Sir.
You are welcome!
Wow.. That Arado jet bomber is much smaller than i had imagined! Amazing video.
Thank you!
You're welcome!
Thank you for your hard work Paul 👍 Much appreciated
My pleasure!
Absolutely fascinating! Thanks!
And to answer your question above, going in I thought I’d be most interested in the space stuff. But as it turns out I found the WWII German things the most interesting; as you point out, a lot of advanced design that I found surprising.
Fantastic tour - thank you so much!
you're very welcome! :)
Absolutely superb Paul, it’s like being there. Can’t believe it’s taken me so long to catch up with this video! Keep up the incredible work mate.
Thanks, will do!
Been their 2 times already, i only wish that some of the planes and helicopters get switched out for other things to be displayed. Like some of the thinga are hidden behind other planes and you can see stuff.
As a air and space buff ere since age ten, this is one of my fave places. I also volunteer at the downtown D.C mall building i on occasion do visit this place and never tire of going there.
thanks for posting
You're welcome
Great video, the Japanese and German aircraft were quite incredible as was everything else!
Great work as usual Mr. Stewart , thank you as always sir!
Very welcome
Great tour! I've been there a few times, and its always a treat to experience the history contained inside the museum.
Cheers! Glad you enjoyed it. Now I'm working on the Museum of Flight video in Seattle! :)
I need to visit this one. Thank you!
You should!
all of it was interesting and we thank you for your knowledge and research
You're very welcome! I'm working on the Museum of Flight guided tour as we speak
I love your Videos! Very interesting to see so many historical engineering marvels. Thank you!
Thanks for watching!
Happy New Year Paul 😊 I've been so close but never made it inside....once had an overnight stopover in Dulles, stayed in a hotel over road, no time to sightsee. I must go back.......
Next time!
Great work mate! Thank you.
My pleasure!
Love this Smithsonian Museum. Was there in 2008 & 2009 and loved both visits. A definite must see if given the chance. Thank you for a great tour and trip down memory lane!🥰
Glad you enjoyed it!
Fantastic video...thank you
Glad you enjoyed it
Plan on going to the air and space museum this summer. Love this preview
Enjoy, it’s brilliant!
Beautiful video
Thank you so much for this video! This review was great! My kids and I watched this together and we really enjoyed it.
Glad you enjoyed it!
What an excellent tour and narration. I was just there in June and learned so much more from your video. Thank you.
Glad it was helpful!
This is fabulous - thx so much Paul. I loved the German aircraft too and the historic spacecraft! What a place. I love your museum tours - they are so inspiring I must try and visit one day!
You’re welcome! The museum of flight video is out tomorrow 😃
Thanks buddy. Lovin it.
No problem 👍
The Clipper Flying Cloud is absolutely gorgeous 👍🇺🇸
I agree!
I couldn't possibly pick a favorite out of that collection...however...I used to work on the venerable CH-46E Sea Knight while I was stationed in Okinawa, Japan during the 80s and 90s...that helo, as ugly as it is, holds a special place for me. I also liked the Bleriot as I have an affinity for extremely old, antique aircraft.
Good tour! Thanks.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great job for another very informative video
Glad you enjoyed it
Really great production ...
Thanks!
Happy new year, Paul.🎉 Great video to start 2024 👍
Thank you very much for producing such an informative video of this museum. I’ll never be able to get there myself now, but this video is almost like being there! You are doing great work.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great vidéo merci 😊
I live about an hour away from the Udvar-Hazy Center. One of my favorite places to go. Great video.
Thanks for watching!
Always enjoy your content. Please keep them coming, and Happy New Year. 🎉
Happy new year!
Thank you for the video!
My pleasure!
Thanks for another great vid
Glad you enjoyed it
I went back and watched every minute of the presentation. I think the museum tours are great. I was living in Virginia when this museum first opened though I could not find it. My traveling days are behind me so your tours are likely my only opportunity to see these places. THANKS HAPPY NEW YEAR!😊
Glad you enjoyed it!
great video Paul, always good to watch
Thanks 👍
Excellent video, Paul. Really informative and a great presentation style. Many thanks. 🇬🇧
Glad you enjoyed it
supervid! well produced and crystal clear interesting data delivery! ❤
Thank you kindly!
Well done!!! enjoy very much!!!
Thank you!!
Love the Lockheed x35
We held a reception here several years ago for a group of international technical delegates. It was strange to see the Japanese guys lining up in front of the Enola Gay for pictures. You can stand a few feet away from the nose art on the second floor walkway. I think this is a better museum than the one in DC.
Fabulous, KZhead Gold, Slainte ❤
Another fantastic tour, Paul. That museum is on my bucket list! Cool of the museum showing respect to the engineering breakthroughs from everyone, including enemy nations, as you mentioned at the end.
Glad you enjoyed it
The B-17 you talk about briefly at 3:46 is the “Shoo Shoo Shoo baby” which used to be on display at the National Museum of the US Airforce in Dayton Ohio, she was taken off display in 2018 when the Memphis Belle was finished being restored and put on display , the museum did a trade with the Smithsonian to give them “Shoo Shoo Shoo baby” in exchange for the B-17D “The Swoose”, the engines, landing gear and a few other smaller pieces of “Shoo Shoo Shoo baby” are still in Dayton as of recently
Your video was in my suggested feed on KZhead and gave it a watch. Absolutely loved the video of the incredible pieces of history in the air and space. I hope to be able to visit it one day. Thank you for all the hard work on putting the video together and sharing it with everyone. Looking forward to watching some of your other videos. You have a new subscriber with me...
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks for the great video from a plane buff
Glad you enjoyed it!
