Insane Power Of Challenger 2 Main Battle Tank. The effectiveness of a tank is determined by a balance between its protection, firepower and mobility. Known as the ‘Iron Trinity’, the design of all tanks must achieve a balance between these fundamental characteristics. The Challenger 2 main battle tank prioritises firepower and protection. These world-beating technologies make the tank slightly slower than some of its opponents, but the accuracy and lethality of the Challenger 2 offset their higher speeds. In this video we are going to take a closer look at those technologies behind the Challenger 2 tank and see exactly what it is capable of.

  • The challenger 2 CANNOT fire 'standard NATO 120mm ammunitions'. It uses two part ammunitions that is compatible with its rifled barrel that is unique amongst NATO tanks at the moment. Challenger 3 will, however, have guns compatible with the said NATO ammunitions

    • Burlington is the initial designation of the first british composite armor (later called chobham) Chobham is in its 2. Generation with Dorchester. USA and Germany are already in 3rd generation composite armor but the UK laggs behind about 20 years

    • @@2stroketimebomb as you know, you cant post links etc to youtube. 1st generation Chobham Style Armor was used on Leopard 2A0-A4 (here known as Komposit A), M1 Abrams, M1A1 Abrams and Challenger 1. (again here there are variations between Challenger 1 and M1, due to M1 having a differend composition) 2. Generation Chobham Style Armor introduces a heavy metal backer plate and a few other things into the composition, to increase protection against APFSDS rounds. In some armor layouts this is depleted uranium, in others toungsten. On Leopard 2A5 this was introduced as Komposit B, on M1A1 HA/HC this was introduced on the Abrams and contniued on M1A2. On Challenger 2 a variation with higher protection vs chemical effect (HEAT) but lower protection vs kinetic effect (APFSDS) was used, this is designated Dorchester. All NATO Partners switched to 2. Generation Chobham Style armor composition in the early 90´s. Since then, both M1A2 SEP and Leopard 2A7 recieved 3rd generation chobham style armor composition upgrades and external add ons to the main armor (on Leo2 the Arrowhead and MEXAS-H/AMAP ablative armor packages in addition to C Type Composite Armor. On M1 the SEP Armor Upgrade and TUSK) Challenger 2 didnt recieve any upgrades or modernisations to its base armor since its introduction in 1994 and only the TES Package, that increases protection on the major weakspots of the base armor vs RPG´s (lower frontal plate, hull sides, turret sides). But its not only in respect to armor where Challenger 2 lagg behind, but also main armament, ammunition, sensors, engine etc.

  • will have to see how it does in the Ukraine every tank is vulnerable the Abrams will not be in Ukraine for a while lots of excuses i think America think the war will be over so they will not have to send them as with the jets and don't get me wrong America has sent a lot of equipment . 👍 but would they enter into a war without air support as would any NATO country i don't think so .

    • I regret to say that which tank has a record of not losing any in combat as of now. Leopard II nope. Abrams nope Challenger II yes. So a tank that is able to survive RPG's, hits from T-72's and carry on fighting and in one case a MILAN atgm and just had to wait for recovery and was repaired and back in action. Haven't seen a Leopard 2 do that in fact Turkiye have shown its vulnerable side when they sent some into Syria
