【About Asian Small-clawed Otters】
First, otters are different from sea otters.
Sea otters spend most of their time in the water, but otters can live both on the ground and in water.
A few years ago, trafficking otters became a serious problem, and in 2019, CITES (Washington Convention) increased the classification of otters from CITESⅡ to CITES I, which banned international trade.
Having an otter as a pet is illegal in most countries. However, in Japan, otters can be traded, although it is limited to domestic breeds only.
Currently, severe restrictions are in place for buying and selling otters in Japan. For example, microchips need to be inserted in both babies and parents, and owners need a special permit. Circumstances of birth must also be reported in detail.
As a result, there is currently no buying and selling of baby otters in the market. There is a severe penalty for selling and buying otters with unknown birth origins without permits. This was effective in eliminating trafficking, and we don’t see otter trafficking on the news anymore.
Kotaro and Hana were both born in Japan and have permits.
It is so much work to have an otter as a pet. You need to be ready for more than its cuteness. They are loud, and they sometimes bite you. Food and water get very expensive, and you cannot keep otters in cages because they are active. Also, we never leave them at home. We always look after them closely like we do with human children, and our top priority is always them.
If you want to have an otter as a pet, you must be able to follow the law and devote your life to it. If you don’t have that resolve, you should never have one as a pet.
Thank you

    • @@mutabore7 I think it's more of they were told beforehand to not go all over the otters, since the owner of the video did mention otters can be dangerous to people they aren't familiar with. Even with cats, you should let them have their own space and roam the house by themselves after you adopt them

      @notmyname3556@notmyname3556 Жыл бұрын
    • @@notmyname3556 I think that was more likely it too. The older child sat as patiently as she could and stayed as still as she could at first when attempting to meet them. The ignoring of the otters occurred more in the middle of their stay. Then they opened up more as they all got used to how each other moved. at 5:18 I loved it when the boy adjusted his movements and then let the otters sniff his hair as well while staying close to the floor on his tummy. The communication at that point was really good.

  • First of all, these children are gorgeous, and I love all the lemons on the family’s clothes. Second, they are so well-behaves, and the fact that they just played with the toys at first gave the otters plenty of time to scope the children out. It may not have been a conscious strategy, but it worked. I imagine Kotaro and Hana were overwhelmed with that beautiful baby smell, which is just yummy. • Oh, I've seen some EPIC tantrums thrown in Japan. My husband had to evacuate Seiyu due to the particularly vicious, loud piercing shrieks and screams of one intensely angry young child. Why the mother didn't deal with it rather than let other shoppers suffer for 20 entire minutes, I have no idea. Kids in Japan when they kick off are just the same as anywhere else. It's young primary school aged children and up that are well behaved, not the toddlers. Terrible twos= universal human truth. ;D

    • Children until a certain age have a wildcard in Japan. I've seen little kids almost explode in anger just in the middle of the most crowded places. Old people sometimes still get angry and scold the parents for not acting. But generally speaking... Schools are meant to press them into the social norms.

Having stuffed snake chasing or encircling otters. I can see why otters. Apprehensive n jumpy. Glad u supervised. Other 2 children girl n baby. Perfect. Non threatening interaction. One must be very careful n planned well when introducing children. Safety. For both is extremely important. Show kids how to interact. By. Slow Movements. Petting. Playing. Feeding.
