  • I bought a Hasselblad Stellar when it was heavily discounted, which is a Sony RX100 first edition. I love this little camera, even ten years later, it is still a great camera for everyday carry around.

  • Good comparison of the models. I started with a mint condition second hand IV when I was looking for a pocketable camera with good image quality for skiing. It had to fit into a ski jacket pocket unobtrusively. Then on a whim, the following season I upgraded to a VA. Then on another whim in 2023 I wanted longer reach so upgraded to a VII. The trade-in offer for the VA was not good, so I just kept it. Now the VA is my low light option, the VII is my sports option. Great pair (VA+VII): light; excellent IQ; and convenient. On winter skiing (and summer hiking) holidays this combo is all I need. Notwithstanding the march of the phone camera IQ, I hope they continue this line with two parallel models, one with a fast lens 24-70/f2.8 lens and one with a longer, but slower telephoto lens and both with sensor, AF and other upgrades as technology improves, but I doubt this will is going to happen.

  • Amazing and informative video! I always find something great on your channel! Because of this video, I want an RX100 camera for travel (hopefully soon), I know sony is focusing on their vlogging cameras these days but there is no denying, they seem to make great premium compacts with flagship features. I appreciate the comparison and summary of each, Crazy to think that with an RX100 VA (24-70) and RX100 VII (24-200), you can basically do pocket sports or wedding photography 😂 crazy stuff!

    • Thanks for your support as always :) I'd definitely try to handle one in person before buying (or buy with a return policy) because while these cameras are packed with features, they're not going to win awards for handling or ergonomics. Many find them fiddly in practice! For anything outside casual/walkaround/travel use, I definitely prefer using something with interchangeable lenses

  • thank you…..good review! I like the comparison chart. I’m assuming the animal eye tracking is only offered on the VII model? Even This most recent model is/will be discontinued, do you think the firmware will be updated in the upcoming years? Especially looking at animal tracking and if this feature gets updates or not. I shoot about 90% of my pictures animals I could really use a small compact to complement my larger Sony body.

    @nikosames1715@nikosames17157 ай бұрын
    • Thanks! I know the RX100 VII has animal eye detection, but (unless I'm mistaken) there is no tracking with that mode. So it would only be useful for static animal shots. I would not rely on Sony updating firmware. Overall, I would save money for a better lens or a better primary body in your situation (alternatively, perhaps one of the APS-C models?)

  • My MkV has served me well. Not quite APS-C quality, but gram for gram it certainly wins. I recommend a screen protector from the start as the screen now looks like a sandpapered oil slick, even taking care of it. Got the 'AG-R2' grip and it feels great, should be built in from the factory honestly. Also, the high-speed video may be a bit niche, but in the high-speed camera world these are the most affordable for the quality(unless you drop $4k for a Chronos).

    @bueb8674@bueb867410 ай бұрын
    • Thanks for sharing! Great points about the screen protector and grip. I see so many with scratched up screens on the used market. I tried using Sony's camera case but found it to be a bit bulky in practice - the AG-R2 grip sounds like a better idea.

  • this is a super useful video! i have the RX 100 III since 2016, it was amazing back then. Now, not so much. I feel like image quality is very similar to my phone Samsung S21 (not in all scenarios but in day to day life). I want to upgrade, should I get the RX 100 VII? or something else entirely?

    @cande2216@cande221624 күн бұрын
    • Thanks for watching! I'm not sure if the RX 100 VII is going to blow you away, ultimately it's still a 1" sensor, just packed into a camera body with lots of features and an impressive zoom range. If using your smartphone isn't an option, it would have to be the Sony A6000 series (I realize that's no longer compact).

  • Can you please advise which sony rx 100 version will be best compatible with the sony shooting grip with remote commander (GP-VPT2BT) as bluetooth connectivity was not discussed in the comparison . I currently have the sony rx100 mk1 which hasn't got the bluetooth hence cannot use the remote control features of the grip though I benefit from the small camera mounted conveniently on the grip. I have quite big hands and have slight difficulty using the camera and very comfortable when mounted on the grip. I don't want to dispose the mark 1 (yet) as it very practical and classic to use. thanks

    • Hi, I've checked the Sony website and the only compatible one seems to be the last one, the RX100 VII (mark 7). With that said, bluetooth connections can be quite finicky so I wouldn't invest in a RX100 VII just for use with this remote commander. Hope this helps

If you like taking pictures of yourself or your friends in dark bars or restaurants, the flash models are the way to go. • Each and every RX100 drives circles around the ugly files coming out of smartphones. Your claim comes up so often, but ones you used one of these and compare the images, you realize that smartphones are still just software. The level of quality that you get out of a RX, is something totally different. Since there is the option of AI denoise in Lightroom etc. the RX is skyrocketing in terms of image quality. You can put an ISO 100 image and put it next to an APS-C even at 1:1 and I can tell you, you will have a hard time to see what is what. Put a Smartphone image next to an APS-C and you will directly know what is what.
