I haven't had the opportunity to wear any costumes that were "quick change" designed, but I have had many a quick change doing stage shows. The most dressers I had designated to one quick change moment was 3. It was a very involved costume change. I really liked learning about the different ways to make the costumes more quick change ready. In particular, the magnets.
Magnets! I always assumed it was very good slight-of-hand velcro (havent watched the video yet). That's awesome!
Thanks. That seems like a partial explanation, but you also see super quick changes right in front of your eyes with very little prop to hide behind, like just a balloon, not behind a curtain, and the mysterious part is that you don't see a trace of the previous costume. I could compare it to a balloon popping, as fast as that. But I imagine not everything can be revealed.
Shes not a magician. Shes explaining her experience with creating garments for theater. But you can imagine that the super quick changing, like your mentioning, that they use some kind of variation of the methods in the video. But faster lol
@@free2radke777 Yes, that's true. I was looking on youtube for a video explaining these super quick changes and came across this video, but got thrown off by the word "magic" in the title.
That’s a very specific kind of stage effect, it doesn’t fall under the normal label of quick change as normal because it’s generally a ‘special’ or a magic moment. If there is no trace of the costume being left behind you are probably thinking about a costume that is double sided and folds over itself. A good example of this is a Cinderella quick change gown, often the the top part of the gown folds down and the skirts of the ballgown are hidden in a. Sutlej compartment of the rags etc

magnets are often used for quick costume changes. which means you are dressed in another costume underneath the costume with magnets and I'm pretty sure the costume under is a "secured" costume. 😂

I don't think that this is the kind of quick-change outfit that Lea Kyle from AGT is using. This quick change is a slow poke. Lea Kyle is really magic.
We attempted to use magnets for a quick change last year and had such a struggle! The magnets didn't want to snap together after we sewed them into little pockets. Do you have any tips?

Thank you so much for that explanation. I love to sew new things sometimes even clothes. This makes everything different now , maybe i could use some Tricks for me. But its a bit harder bc i wanna sew fashion that you can wear in public. But if it would get dirty that u could change it fast. 😅🙈. Wish me good luck for my Future :)

I agree with you . Lea Kyle makes her own costumes and they are stunning. It takes a lot of work, imagination and talent to reach its level. And besides, she doesn't lose her arms when she changes clothes loll. 5:03

I always wanted to work as a dresser backstage, but at school I was told it was a pipe dream and perhaps look to become an accountant...... This was before everyone was told you can be whatever you want, (and before internet so it wasn't easy to research) ....... Sadly I became ill after this and was never able to know what my future career was to be. If I was a teenager now things would be sooooo different!

Genuinely curious, what methods do you use, or how would you make a costume that changes with movement? What I mean is for example, how does Cinderella or the the witch from into the woods can change thier costumes so naturally with little movement? Spinning around and either flipping to the underside layer, or underpinning a layer over

It’s double sided
So how does the Quick Change in "Frozen" or "Cinderella" work where they are on stage and they are the only actress there? They spin around and suddenly they are in a new outfit.
Those types of costumes will have a gather, so the new skirt will be pulled up and loosely stitched in place, with a quick release thread. So the actor will pull the thread, which unravels everything holding up the new skirt, then the force of spinning helps the new skirt fall down, and also disgusts any "helping" the actor will do to smith it out. They're a pain because that has to be resin for every show.
With BTS we get to experience all sorts of things😁😁😁😂, and we even get magic shows by Jimin. You cannot tell me otherwise. Jimin is a magician and that's it🙂🔪
I'm curious, what kind of undergarments do the actors usually use? Is it just small nude coloured bra and panties, or do some just have to get use to having dressers see a little more of them?
I just realized in this video that the quick change from the coronation dress of Elsa in let it go to the ice gown is held by a magnet. What I'm really curious about and can't seem to find anywhere here is how they pull off the three layer quick change of jafar at the end of Alladin. Anyone who has a link or knows how its done?
@Ethan Schrader so jafar's costume is rigged with magnets as well? He also changes his head piece that's what i'm really puzzled about.
The head piece is connected to the costume and goes with it, when one layer falls

This explanation goes for quick change magic in 1980´s. Lea kyle changes costume under 1 second. That is more than " magic " and i don´t wan´t to tell here what it is.

Assuming you mean the white dress to red transition, layering the costume. If you watch the scene they don’t move around nearly as much in the white dress as the red one. Probably was wearing the red dress underneath with a rip away rig to keep it hiked up beneath the white dress. The white dress is also definitely a tear away that a pre-set dresser rips off as they go behind the scenery.

YES! I've never seen anyone talking about it and that's the whole reason why I've spent like 3 straight hours watching and reading about quick changes-

I'm not army, but i know that musical performance is still a performance. As well as all the people here from magician's shows or Americas got talent or from figure skating. They are all performances. Just because you are a theatre actor doesn't mean you're superior over other types of performing arts. I think this is just as useful for all the other people who are here for different reasons. Also, I'm here for cosplay! So it *isnt* just for theatre quick change
