  • The dominant impression I get from this video, is that bikes and cars don't belong on the track at the same time. Their optimum lines are radically different. This is especially problematic given the number of drivers (and bikers) who seem to lack a basic understanding of the difference between a race and a casual track day, and of how and when to back off in order to respect other users.

    @steverolfeca@steverolfeca2 жыл бұрын
    • Agreed. The bikes are faster at straights, the cars are faster at cornering, which means no matter who is in front or who is behind they will get stuck behind eachother and will be forced to annoyingly slow down

    • Steve. I've done a BTG in 8:25 in 1998 on a completely stock 98 Blade. About 3 or 4 years later, when an affordable 170mph Renault Megane could be acquired by an average car driver, it was a pivotal change in how dangerous the Ring has now become. Never again for me, unless we get 'bike only' days.

  • Some cars do not know the difference between the Touristenfahrt and trackdays. To honk at others who are "not fast enough" or squeez into small gaps before the corner so your Laptime is better shouldn't be done on a Touristenfahrt and especially not with motorcyclists.

    • Yes and no...half these bikers have zero awareness of what's behind them. I mean the guys who are clearly slowing down the Lambo, the Arial atom, the 911 etc....what are they thinking? Have been round the ring in a car and on bike and honestly, looks like the bikes are at fault here. Also taking a pillion and almost getting wiped out? Just dumb. Really, zero sympathy..

    • @@Alex-dh1mq The responsibility of a safe pass is always on the man behind. It's irrelevant if they have a pretty car or not, in a Track you look forward and take your lines, the others behind you need to pass you in a safe way. No excuses. No sympathy for jerks endangering others.

    • @@dragonryucr2000 you mean like 3:43 ? Don't make excuses for people just cos they're on two wheels. There's some good riders here, and there are some clueless riders here who are a danger to themselves and others. Same goes for the car drivers.

      @Alex-dh1mq@Alex-dh1mq2 жыл бұрын
    • @@Alex-dh1mq The responsibility of a safe pass relies on the man behind, the person needs to make a safe pass. Regarding if you think the Lambo and the Arial atom are pretty cars. Just because you like the Lambo doesn't mean that the person in front has to let them pass. Second and very importantly this track has Touristenfahrt and trackdays as Felix Vieh #65 mentioned. People can get in and drive or ride just by paying, it's basically an open track for everyone, people even lap with buses, campers and all sort of crazy shit. The majority of people are inexperienced drivers or that only want to have the experience of lapping a legendary track once in their lifetimes. Like all the guys in this video, including the guy in 3:43 and the Lambo and Ariel guys. There are a lot of noobs driving here all the time. The rule still remains, the person behind has to wait until they can make a safe pass, the person in front does not need to be paying attention the person behind, they need to focus on the track. If they want to go to the racing days, they need to take their racing license and go to a specific day. If you have a problem getting your head wrapped around this concept, which you clearly do, go to your local Track and take the safety course they offer for new riders/drivers, they'll be happy to have you, they always are. The only different thing about this track and regular tracks is that German transit rules still apply inside the track and you can even get a ticket.

      @dragonryucr2000@dragonryucr20002 жыл бұрын
    • @@dragonryucr2000 Honest question, and I'm not asking to be a smartass but have you ever ridden or driven around the ring on a touristenfahrten day? Like I've commented on another reply, the rule on this track is that if there is faster traffic around you, then you indicate and move over to the right and let the traffic pass. If you're not aware of that rule, you're a danger to all on the track. If you're not aware of what's in front and what's behind you, you're a danger to all on the track. Touristenfahrten is not a full on race, yes understood, and it's not intentionally for lap times, yet that is what everyone there is doing, and no one is naive to that fact. If you're there just for a sight seeing lap, then that's also fine but don't be a dick and hold up traffic just cos you're in your own world without a care for everyone else. Isn't it dangerous when you're driving on the motorway or highway and someone is there doing 20kph less than the speed limit causing a build up of frustrated drivers bumper to bumper? So then on a racetrack (regardless of touristenfahrten vs trackday... And yes I've done both), a track without speed limits and where people are paying 30eur per lap, and the rules state move to the right if faster traffic behind (just like on the road), you still want to defend the muppets riding around in their own world? Ok mate. Merry Xmas 👍🎅

      @FreZzaaa@FreZzaaa2 жыл бұрын
    • @@FreZzaaa Shall we now delve into the definition of what a short track is, compared with the Nürburgring?Answer: pretty much every track is. And anybody who has raced in Brno (15mtr wide and 5,4km long) before and then races in Hockenheim (8,5mtr wide) will agree, that it is tiny in comparison.There is a difference of 23 seconds between both tracks lap records, just to give you a hint. Oschersleben is only 3,7km , but has almost the identical track record (1:13min) as Hockenheim. Comparing tracks is difficult and anything you can lap in about a minute is a "short" track. My original point was, that it is a dumb idea to go to the Nürburgring to learn how to go fast, when there are so many easy and safe tracks in Europe to start with and where totalling your equipment isn´t so likely. • To be fair, if you are being forced to slow down annoyingly mid corner then you have demonstrated a total lack of anticipation going into that corner. Perhaps this is the problem with many of these situations.. too little forethought about the conditions ahead. Someone slow up ahead, yet unable to get by and your favourite corner is coming up... Then why hang on their heels getting frustrated? Hang back a bit allow some buffer space and take your corner at speed.. deal with overtaking the chap ahead later on at a safer spot.

But that doesn't excuse the type of behavior in this vid. If you want to go flat out and not have the occasional lap ruined by TF being TF then there's a very simple solution, a trackday. Bikers are kinda programmed to NOT look in their mirrors when on track. Racebikes don't have them, and where I'm from if you don't take them off for a trackday you're required to tape them. So I'd cut them some slack and refrain from bullying them with your 2-ton car on the most dangerous track in the world.

  • Cars and bikes compete against themselves. This is what is fascinating. On a bike you will fight the car against physics and the car will have to fight to overtake the bike. Eventually the car will win because it has much more stability but when theres open road the bee continues on your rear view mirror. Fascinating man. If we start to take everything because of fear of accidents is better to stop living. Life is a fight for surviving since memorial times. This control and opression is to take from us everything we love - passion, any emotion, feelings. We need more emotion!!

    • This is why when people ask me "when are you going to upgrade to a bigger bike?" my response is "I don't need a bigger bike." Granted its a 600cc cruiser, it does exactly what I need it to. Sometimes I think it would be fun to have something with a little more oomph as I do max it out during acceleration but in reality I can't legally use the power of my current bike most times anyway so what's the point. I am 30 so it's not an age thing, Also cheers from Australia.
