Red Bull attempt to land an airplane on the world-famous helipad on top of the Burj Al Arab in Dubai. We give you an exclusive behind-the-scenes look into this crazy stunt. The helipad is only 27 meters long and the pilot required two years of intense training to complete the world's first attempt at a stunt of this magnitude.
Thanks to @redbull & Luke Czepiela!

Hello great chef
I agree 100% Chef Jean-Pierre.
The take off at the end pretty well demonstrates the actual safety margin he had if he didn't stick the landing.
This fantastic pilot is Łukasz Czepiela. He is from Poland. CONGRATULATIONS - all of Poland is proud of you!!!
He's from Earth. CONGRATULATIONS - all of Earth that is lucky to have time to discover this video is proud of you!!!!
Super, nie wiedzialem ❤
i wish to fly like him Proud of him
Russia loves you
Cute comment! I love the poles. Such a proud and dignified nation
Mike Patey is an absolute legend. Shoulder to shoulder with aviation giants like Rutan, Kelly Johnson, Yeager, and Lindberg. Guy is incredible in the air, and the fact that he takes the time to document all his projects in insane detail for everyone makes him one of my personal engineering and aviation heros.
It was not Mike in that plane
@@bartoszk4299 it was Mike who built that plane
Incredible engineering by Mike Patey and incredible flying by Luke. What a team ! Thanks to Red Bull !!! Lessons learned from Mike’s other planes !!
You forgot Maverick
Rutan? Burt Rutan? Theee guy who built that pyramid in California? Woah!
That taking off from the helipad was way too awesome. Red Bull doesn't give you wings just when you drink it, also when you see the stunts.
It is a little bit (red) bull shit though. By the time the plane reaches the edge, it's already flying. He could have gone one flying away straight and level, the dive was just for show. But hey, that's okay and to be expected. It's Red Bull. It's for show.
@@SolarWebsite it's ≈ flying but might not have power to climb any more than that, and maybe even used all available energy to clear the platform… the dive secures proper air speed. But ok, re-watching it's certainly perfectly capable of such short takeoff :p
Taking off is the easier part for STOL planes like this... In fact it actually can't just roll of the pad as it will get tangled by the protuding bar at the edge.

the coolest part is to see Mike and Lukasz in one stunt. Love you guys!
Mike Patey should be in the National Aviation Hall of Fame! He inspired so many flying people already with his projects!
I thought he was or was that the racing hall of fame
The pilot was Łukasz Czapiela
@@bartoszk4299 We know. He's in the video... And the video description.
Redbull stunts never dissapoint 😎
Not that huge a deal for the folks who win the STOL competitions up in Alaska, but it's definitely risky due to the possibility of catching the front wheel or errant wind gusts. Not much runway up there, but I'm certain that they waited for a day when gusts were upwind. Gotta have backup plan for sure, and this guy's obviously skilled. As for taking off, there was no need to roll the plane down. It's already got enough power to stay horizontal right off the edge. The roll downwards was strictly for show. Go Red Bull !!!!
Yup. Iv seen Carbon Cubs hover and land like a helicopter in a strong enough head wind. Impressive Birds
having a dad who was a notable bush pilot in AK - my thoughts were the same!
Yea, the way blondie built it up that if it didn't make it, it would crash into the water was b.s. those planes are as light as or maybe even lighter than a sailplane, in stock form..😅
@@TheEnergizer1965 But it was not without its dangers. If they catch a wheel coming in, the plane could tumble. If they overshoot and a wheel gets caught up in the netting, they could be in serious danger.
@@TheEnergizer1965 haha and the same thing they claimed would kill him, was exactly what they did to get back down. That was when it got super ironic.
Damn this is something special. Kudos to the entire team especially the captain for pulling this off
Redbull gives you wings
LOL
Thanks for the menction to my landing clip at 5:38, I made it with Flight Simulator back on 2020 :) Awesome challenege to make it in real, great job everyone involved!
Dayumn!😮🖤
Red Bull is just fantastic 👍
"Fantastic" is just not enough to describe this indomitable feat!! Nerves of Steel and Mountains of Sefl-confidence!! Hats off Team!
The takeoff technique actually shows that the landing isn't so critical, as long as you don't bend the plane; you can just drop off the other side and try again.
Unless you hit the building in a wind gust lose the prop or a wing from a ground strike ground loop the plane there are plenty of ways that landing could go very wrong and if you notice on the take off he could’ve probably could’ve done a stol takeoff without the dive but it’s more dramatic with the dive
Mike Patey and his team are the REAL geniuses behind this stunt. Luke is a great pilot... but there was some extreme engineering that made this whole stunt possible. Mike Patey is the Elon Musk of aviation.
Absolutely! I've followed Mike and Mark for years! Not much into aviation personally, but as a Mechanical Engineer (now retired) I see what they do and smoke comes out of my ears! 😱
@@philgrindle2741 I’m on the aviation side. I don’t know the first thing about engineering and smoke comes out of my ears when I see the crazy stuff these guys come up with!
@@RealRickCox that really make them special is there attention to detail and testing they don’t design components or assembly’s they design completely independent yet interconnected systems unfortunately you don’t see enough of that well thought out build practice anymore
The best video ever on this channel....awesome stuff!!!!
I guess there is another shooting of this stunt - a bit more exciting: kzhead.info/sun/dZGbotGjaKeXZJ8/bejne.html
Congratulations to all the legends involved in the stunt. 🙌🏾“The pilot “ got no chills.
Watched the build video first. Mike and the crew only do awesome stuff. Worked as advertised
Wowww!! This is why we love Red Bull & Dubai
This is the best example of "PRACTICE LEADS TO PERFECTION" no matter how much impossible it seems to be.
Well all I can say is : POLISH Pilots are the best!!!!!! Congratulations on this amazing stunt to everyone involved 👏👏👏
After Canadian Pilots
That was absolutely insane!!! That pilot is a mad man lol but seriously so cool!
I've never seen a landing that short in my life till now. Not even on an aircraft carrier. Thanks for sharing!
This was incredible! Insane, talented piloting!
That was awesome! Grats RB team! and for SCB for coverage!
With enough headwind you can stand still in the air, so this is the crucial factor, as the right wind can minimise the groundspeed.
This is how a country supports a sport. Dubai ♥️. appreciation for redbull and the brave pilot. 🔥
Mike Patey - the genius behind everything airo. he is an amazing engineer.
@Supercar Blondie this is an excellent video, and you will bring massive exposure to @Mike Patey. You should really feature his plane "Scrappy" which is a true hand-built Supercar/SUV of the skies. No other plane like it.
Well Draco should be done in a couple of months if the research contract is on schedule and something tells me Draco will have a version of those wings
@@Doubie. I think Mike was going to work on a race plane to go after a speed record before he rebuilds Draco. He’s already got a massive turboprop engine for it that is sitting in a display case in his hanger
That was a hair raising stunt that went well ,Congratulations too the Red Bull Team on pulling this crazy stunt off !!! 👍😃🛩
Bravo Polska 🔥 Respekt bratři 🇨🇿
The craziest stunt I have ever seen! This was amazing guys....
Real Life Knife Edge? I thought that was only in RC planes!
The way he landed that plane on such a short runway 👏
Carbon Cub S, Sport Cub, Pilatus PC 6, are all STOL (Short Takeoff and Landing) planes.
Soooo awesome, I can't believe it is even possible. Super robota Łukasz!
До чего крутые люди а. Большая радость смотреть таких спецов в своем деле.
Me on GTA trying to land on the tall building 😂
Wow! Absolutely phenomenal pilot skills as well as aircraft engineering. Everyone on the team should be proud!! You nutters! 😉
Finally a video that shows how they got it down. I watched another video and it just talked about the landing. Great coverage!
Best thing about KZhead is the ability to fast forward to the end , skip the hype/marketing watch the even then leave. God bless.
That's truly incredible! I was completely immersed in the experience and felt like I was there myself - my heart was racing with excitement.
That takeoff from the hallipad with no runway was exactly awesome as the landing. Bravo 👏👏👏🏅🐐👈.
Just one word for this stant it’s (wow) 😱
Red Bull should sponsor the yearly competition of bush pilots that can land and stop in less than 10 feet 😳
What a wild ride. Insane project!!
You can do it
Insane... The experiment was just as good as the Redbull itself ❤❤❤
Absolutely amazing..soo dope. From the engineering to the physics involved to skills. This is one hell of a genius stunt😎
You have to love when you watch two of the best channels on you tube on the same video , Supercar Blondie and Mike Patey .
Red Bull Once Again Nailed It, Big W
I saw this on my yahoo news feed yesterday. This is absolutely insane. This looks so nerve wracking. It's so great to see all the preparations that went into it. Thank you.
The landing was amazing.. that takeoff was majestic af
When he landed I honestly held my bath 😮💨
Mike Patey, and team, made the plane. So that's why he's been quiet.
He’s also coming up on the research contract competition date for Draco to be done and building his house plus his day job to say he’s busy is a understatement
@@Doubie. He's a machine. He always says, "Back to work," with a smile. I've never once heard him say, "Time for a nap."
This is one of the coolest stunt on the internet. Bravo🙌🏻
This is actually sick thanks for showing us the skills of this amazing team
Red Bull gives u wings, have a safe flight👋🏼
This literally Insane!😂
I love how daring Red Bull is. Kudos!
As for many times - polish pilots are one of the best in the whole world. Or even the best ones! I'm so proud.
That's cool! I once landed an AC 130 on top the Maze bank Tower, Nice to see this being achieved!
I can casually land my Mammatus on the Maze Bank tower.
Luke did this because Mike broke his own plane😳 Mad respect to Luke, Mike and their entire crew that supported them to accomplish this 👍😎
The best landing ever 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏 Great job
Wouldn´t believe that if I haven´t seen it with my own eyes! Congrats to Luke and the whole team!
🛩Łukasz rulez! Auuuuu! 🛩👏👏👏 👍 Wielkie dzięki, gratulacje i mega pozdro dla Ciebie! 👌 And huge thanks for Mr. Patey and His Team! 🙂 For Supercarblondie and Her Team too! 🙂 What a great stunt! WOW! WOW! WOW! 🛩🛸
In my opinion I think Luke deserves most of the credit because he knew he had a 50% chance of surviving and still did the stunt anyway. Thank you Supercar Blondie for this incredible video. Keep up the great work as always😊👍🏿 Edit: Luke was very brave and took a huge risk when doing the stunt and to be fair I will also give credit to the rest of the Red Bull team behind the scenes for putting so much effort into planning the stunt and hiring the best people
98% chance, go watch it again. 2% failure means 98% success.
@@daviousmaximus6446Good Answer but I could of sworn Supercar Blondie said he had a 50% chance surviving. I also disagree that he had a 98% chance of success because keep in mind the helipad is so small. The goal was to not overshoot the landing because if he did overshoot it, it would have caused the plane to nose dive into the water. Even when they were practicing for the big stunt the plane kept overshooting and they failed plenty of times. The bottom line here is that Luke took a huge risk, he knew there was high chance of him not surviving but he still did the stunt anyway and completed it successfully which is truly admirable and jaw dropping
@@tonyhines4855 You don't think she might have been building the drama? That's what these people get invites for, to spread the word, raise the hype, enjoy mutual benefit for their channel , and try and thrill the crowd. The hotel owners want to do something that looks spectacular, but has very little actual danger, and these guys have the bucks to do that. I think Mike would have made a packet off this as would Red Bull. Another thing is that the pilots of these types of planes can gun the throttle and fly again almost immediately. That big swoop off the building when he took off again was totally for show, you can see him push over into it after actually gaining height. So as fun as this looks, the danger is very low for an experienced pilot. Having said that it was some fun and nothing like this is completely danger free.
@@daviousmaximus6446 I understand what you said about the building the hype part. I get that, I know that’s what people do but you gotta admit that the stunt was very risky
Mike Patey deserves 50% of the credit, his mastery at building next level STOL aircraft are legendary. Check out Draco (RIP) and Scrappy. No one builds aircraft like Mike and this stunt would not have happened without him.
I have see these stunts in msfs 2020, gta 5 etc but neven seen in real life 🤯
Simplemente "Asombroso". Felicidades a todo ese maravilloso equipo!!!. Excellent.
The way she calmly says "or you die"💀
I'm surprised he still had enough fuel to take off after his landing keeping in mind, they wanted the plane to be as light as possible to do the initial landing in the first place.
You're surprised they planned for enough fuel to get the plane back down again? They wanted to be as light as possible...while completing the entire mission...with the required safety margin.
Kudos to the pilot. Absolutely amazing. 🥳🥳
OMG...MAGNIFIIIIIIIIIIIQUE..TRES BIEN MIKE & LUKE & RED BULL TEAM ...GUT OF STEEL...INDEED...THE TAKE OFF PART WAS ..007 Movies INSANE...TOO...🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰...CHEERS SB TEAM TOOO...Phewhhhhh
As a polish guy I’m quite proud that we still got absolutely masterclass pilots, we always had.
As quite a few of us know if anyone can Mike Patey and team can; after all he lies in bed at night designing new parts!
Absolutely insane daredevil pilot
Much talent this guy is good thank you for showing us
Fantastic landing.. but I am pretty sure that take off from the helipad would have been the plan B if he overshoot the runway in the initial landing 🛬
True he had a backup plan, she did kinda hype up the death doom of failure a bit too much, eh?!
I don’t think it would be too bad if he overshot. Given that the building is pretty high i think he would be able to safely recover
At 0:08 it reminds me of the landing pad in Lego Marvel Universe, but like an early version. My son Oliver & I found an exploit where if we continuesly land to collect all that floats around, & then battle all the random badies over & over, we could unlock all the optional characters missing from the roster. We managed to get through it all & revealed all but one. For some reason no one could buy with this method the "Stanley Hulk," variant. I wouldn't doubt that there were more exploits in the game, but this one was special & effective enough for us to think we broke the game, or I let him think that...I just enjoyed seeing his reaction. We did what we had to do together. For some reason I thought it would mean something to him one day. Then I realized, that's an optional face to reveal as well. Even I would've only bought a "dad," variant for the sake of having them all. Imagine the names being there... "Venom Dad," "Dad," "Carnage Dad," & anyone wanting to pick the lesser. 30 Lego bits would be worth it, but they could have trolled everyone to make it the most expensive, & make it so they had to grind more. Lol not fun, not even funny. I really didn't like playing it, I just did cause he liked it, but I like that. I've only ever lived vicariously, which is how it is one could find themselves saying "I can't explain myself, for I'm not myself you know?" I never drank or smoked before I understand her words, or even the fact that it was written by someone, for someone. I read it like I was her, but felt like I was reading "A Never-Ending Story".
EXCELLENT CHALLENGE REALITY GOOD ADRENALINE FOR THE HEALTY THANK YOU FOR SHARE THIS EXCELLT VIDEO SALUTED FROM PUERTO CORTES HONDURAS
Absafeakinlutely insane! Bravo!!!
Always believed I could land a piper cub on a k-mart if needed. Never thought about landing it on the bathroom at a k-mart. The cub would stall at such low speed, and it was so fun to fly. This was fun to watch.
Hilarious!
Cub shaped, but not actually a Piper Cub.
The power of that little plane is amazing. Thank You for posting.😁
Mike Patey does it again, with a lot of help from Lukasz Czepiela! Way to go gentlemen!
WOW that take off in last was the most amazing part 😄
Not really, that the easy part, in fact if he didn't stop in time, he would add power and do the same thing. They covered the netted perimeter area with white sheeting so his wheels would not get caught between the pad edge and the metal rim with the netting in between.
He could just have lifted off too, the dive was just a stunt... I saw some test takeoffs
@@someoneelse7629 yes a stunt (steep dive) to initiate the speed needed for the loop that followed. Actually a wing over, not a complete loop.
@@danblumel Amazing part Visually 🙂
Hell, he didn't even use the full lenght of this landing pad!
My dad went to school everyday that way back in the day.....barefoot....on a tractor....in deep snow.... All dad jokes asside this was awesome....reminded me of watching Evel Kneivel back in the day.....
Wow congratulations Luke that's crazy I can't believe it 😂 the red bull team the best
Łukasz Czapiela... Good work.
Move over Tom Cruise...Luke is the real Maverick!✈
woooow fantastic video ! thanks for sharing :)
Great achievements ,congratulations and salute to the courageous pilot.😮
I have seen the short take off and landing contests in Alaska. 30 feet of landing roll gets you about 10 th place. As for the danger expressed in the breathless intro, uh well, the plane just does off and flies away. Like a missed arresting wire on a carrier, no big deal.
It's funny how they talk about just rolling over the edge, but if you look closely, you can see that the plane was flying before he even left the pad
Yes - fully agree. The dive was purely for show. If it required that much velo to fly it would have needed a slighly longer (200m) runway! 🙂
who makes history😂? what is his name?
I love the big balloon tires, making the plane look like a toy/RC model. Just wondering, if they could add some shroud line, like on aircraft carriers?
Absolutely stunning, thank you!!
