    • Yeah and I don’t even mind multiplayer games, but I don’t like how games these days are made for hardcore grinders. In every MP game you have to climb up the ranks. You have to watch tutorials to learn which button to press in which second, how to exploit glitches to be the best and other stupid sh*t. I loved for example the good old CS 1.6, where teams would just rush on each other and who aims better, wins. CSGO on the other hand? Time your every step. Throw flash at this exact second from this exact place aim at this exact point and jumpthrow, then move here and cover this place. Like it’s not completely boring, but it loses some of the essence of fun. Single player games are so liberating. I can figure everything out on my own. I can beat them even in ways I shouldn’t. Nobody calls me noob for not playing them in accordance to the tutorials. They’re just games and that’s what I love.

  • Alpha Protocol is a rare case of actually being a forgotten gem. It is rough in some aspects, and nowdays pretty dated, but the reactivity to your choices, conversation style and background story is still a stand out example of how it can work. My favorite example being that an important antagonist, who will run away when you confront him, can actually be fought if you act like an arrogant prick to him in all previous interactions. It was also very psychological and everything you did felt meaningful, especially when talking to people. A true gem.

    @bastiannu@bastiannu6 ай бұрын
    • I looooved it! Everytime I tell people about it they at first don't believe me. It's 100% a forgotten gem but yeah it's roughon the edges but it was a memorable journey.

      @60iger29@60iger295 ай бұрын
    • Only forgotten by those who haven't played it I would suggest. I haven't played it but have seen it mentioned on so many videos and I've watched quite a few long plays/in depth reviews of it. There are just so many games to get through particularly of that era that I have yet to get around too including this one. It is dirt cheap too as it is often overlooked. Overlooked is the word I would choose over forgotten when it comes to describing Alpha-Protocol.

      @whatwhatyep@whatwhatyep3 ай бұрын
    • As much as I enjoyed Alpha Protocol, it was also another case of Obsidian going into a game with guns blazing and not really finishing the job. It's been a while so I don't remember all the parts where content just seemed to be missing but I very much remember it being almost as much of a mess as Skyrim.

      @Stranglehold138@Stranglehold138Ай бұрын

    • @bearpoop720 I know but Skyrim is the epitome of buggy AAA software. Even after 10 years of its existence people still found new bugs. It's a comparison of bugginess, not of Obsidian products. In that regard It's probably KOTOR 2 levels of buggy and Tyranny levels of unfinished.

    • I also love the fact that the game you play is actually a story narrated by an old drunken protagonist, who tends to be less than reliable. @A-Dubs398@A-Dubs39811 ай бұрын
    • @@A-Dubs398 Not all "unknown" games suck, then. Returnal is really good - it's on my wishlist (to boost the developers) even though my brain doesn't work in a way that lets me do it. Chained Echoes is like that girl you met decades ago - not that nice a person, but you still wonder how they are doing. It's a fantastic game, to my mind because - although it's not flashy, it really, really makes you think. Another problem I have is that, being sixty-something-and-change, games I played in the 80s and 90s are just not on anybody's radar anymore. The original 3D Battle Chess, or Elite: Frontier. Or my favourite... "Hunt the Mugwump"!

Such a gorgeous post-apocalyptic world created by Ninja Theory, then you get to add in Andy Serkis as the voice of Monkey and his Mo-cap. What turns into a game long Escort Mission, much like Elizabeth in Bioshock Infintie, becomes a heartfelt, enjoyable third person platforming, meleeing, sometimes shooter through the greenest post-apocalyptic world I’ve had the pleasure of playing in. • Love this list, dude! This War Of Mine is extremely underrated & overlooked. Such an emotional rollercoaster, so much depth to the characters & story, so many tough, heart-wrenching decisions to make. If you haven't played it, please do! It's really quite something - but you need to prepare yourself, it really hits you HARD, squarely in the feels! Then it does it again, and again... Honorable mention: Contraband Police. A very recent release, but I watched a video of someone playing through it, and it was quite impressive. Think Papers Please meets (insert FPS here) meets The Long Drive, and you're about 1/2 way there...

  • Absolutely fantastic list! I've played nearly all these or have them in my library waiting to be played. Alpha Protocol was a bit janky at times but the overall game and it's concepts are Soooo damn good! I wish there were more like it or a second Alpha Protocol just with a new agent, I always find myself going back to AP every couple years or so to enjoy it again, I've already played it since it released.....I'd say 15 times, it never gets old, it's just such a fun game! As can be said for MANY of the games on this list, but also many couldn't be fit into the list as well as most of these were more recent games on newer platforms, there's still plenty of old games people looked over that are great too! All I gotta say for someone looking for new games, single player or not, don't limit yourself to the most up to date games or even ultra realistic graphics games, theres a plethora of old and older games out there that are dated visually, yes, but they are 10x better than most games today that dump their budget into photorealistic graphics instead of making a well rounded game. There's plenty of fun to be had no matter what the game looks like or when it came out....just give them a chance and you could be blown away!

First was a unique heist game, basically if Leverage was made into a game, called Th3 Plan. Had 3 characters you controlled to enact complex heists and manage all on screen at the same time. Fun and very hard. Second, a game called Psi-Ops: The Mindgate Conspiracy, now that was just a fun action game. Had all kinds of crazy psychic powers and basically blitzed through enemies in chaotic ways. Like telekinesis giant crates at people, or mind controlling guys to take out enemies and then themselves in pretty brutal ways. Lastly there was Rogue Trooper, action shooter about blue soldiers who are clones, with a lot of fun mechanics. Like installing the life chips of your fallen Brothers into your gear so now you can set your gun down and have it become a turret.

I was devastated when I heard a month ago that EA didn't want to fund a third game :( Man, it really deserved to continue. Having another iconic female lead in gaming wouldn't have hurt!

    • Idk American McGee's an overrated douche. They were trying to create a new "rock star" game developer like John Romero, and used his street cred at id in a failed attempt. He just used every popular goth trope at the time, I doubt he did much to even develop the game.

    • Can’t they just sell the rights to games like Alice in Wonderland, and let other creators, game companies work on a game 3, and new games similar

  • For those wanting some kinda similar to the vibes of Alice but very different also, I recommend Lost in Random

    • I got about 80% through it. Love the art and "vibe." But the controls were so uncomfortable I literally stopped playing because my hands hurt.

  • i'll definitely have to check out Echo and Call of Juarez: Gunslinger, thanks for the recommendation. 👍 "Not Falcon" (lol)

  • That's an awesome list and I was surprised I actually played quite a few of those games. Mad Max esp. stands out if you let it. And clunky character models and low-poly props aside - the desert still looks awesome in different daytimes and light. And melee is really bone-crunching satisfying. And the story... it's sadly not much in terms of amount, but it's very Mad Max. Also agree on Alpha Protocol (plagued by a very bugged release) and Echo (unique!). This War of Mine is utterly depressing, heavy stuff. Some games I might suggest for a reprise: What Remains of Edith Finch, Space Hulk: Deathwing, Stasis and Cayne. :-)

  • If you can look past Asura's Wrath's overreliance on QTEs and Capcom's questionable money-making shenanigans, this is an amazing single player experience with a story that may be a bit simple but it works, it has amazing cinematic cutscenes and breath-taking music that matches the pacing. It's easily in my top 5 most favorite video games of all time and yet saddly it's overlooked by many.

  • One of my favourite single player games was Never Dead. once you get used to the way it controls it is fun despite what other people may say and it gets better with each play-through as perk points carry over allowing you to work your way through more of them while mopping up those achievements such as lobbing your head through the basketball hoops on each level. I have loads of Single player games I love as I wasn't a massive fan of online gaming. I could probably write paragraphs on the subject having been gaming since the 8 bit era.
