Which keyswitch is best for a mechanical keyboard? Well, it's tough to say, but this video is aimed to give you a better idea of the differences between them, including Cherry MX, Gateron, Kailh, etc.

If I buy keyboard with blue switches my whole familly would hate me.
That 's why you get brown
Dimitrije Mirkovic your family are bloods?
Browns feel sorta bad, because they have a tactile-ish bump without the clickiness, which make them feel like soggy cardboard. Get reds or clears, they feel amazing. And tbh blues aren't that much louder than any other switch because the majority of noise from typing comes from when the key cap hits the switch housing bottoming-out/when the switch stem hits the switch housing when going back up.
They are louder for the reason people think they are nice, the click. Bare they are alrealy loud typing they are very loud. Browns are basically a quieter blue with a less pronounced tactile bump.
90% of the games I play are FPS ones. I heard cherry brown are what most professionals use. And to be honest, I don't think my brother can stand the noice of the blue switches cause his bed is 1m away from my PC... :/
I love how everyone jokes about about buying blue switches and being an asshole but deep down we all know they feel the best.
@Leo Corrales Yes they are pretty different. Blue is clicky and speed silver is linear. Also silvers have a shorter actuation point which means they are "more responsive" for gaming. Blue is better for typing. I would suggest that you inform yourself on the different characteristics of the switches to really understand what you're looking for.
@@Sharkcomet blue is best for gaming silvers are like red which means linear sucks cus they sound like membrane and brown is best for typing
@@FizysVibin you realise that most pros play on linear switches? I don't like linear either but this sounds more like your opinion than anything else. I play fps games and mobas and clicky switches are definitely not the most optimal.
They aren’t even the best feeling Clicky tf you on about
@Tacfishy Thanks for stroking my ego lmao. I'm no expert but it depends what you looking for. There are three most common switch which are blue, brown and red. Blue (clicky) is the most noisy but it gives you a lot of feedback, it feels more "mechanical" if it makes sense. Good for typing not the best for gaming. Red (linears) don't give you any feedback but they actuate fast and are more silent. Linear switches are used a lot by fps pro players. Brown (tactile) are kind of in the middle. They give you a little bit of feedback but not like blues, more similar to a good rubber dome keyboard (kinda). If you're not a gamer don't buy red or linear switches because they are not the best for typing. If you are worried about noise or having the most optimal gaming keyboard don't buy blues. Also if your mic picks up a lot of noise your teammates will hate you for having blue switches. They all have their pros and cons it just depends what you are looking for when you buy your first mechanical keyboard.

@@heyby8764 linear switches with low travel time and no tactile clicking. mx reds are a decent start here but theres also optical switches which don't have a switch so much as a sensor, and low-profile style switches which are linear, low travel time, low force required to actuate. mx reds are a great start, though, like i said. my friends all swear by them. but if you want a bit of clicky feeling, mx browns are also great, theyre light and not hard to click down, basically just reds with a tactile bump.

Glad you're back with a new keyboard/switch sorta video. ;) However, I think, the best thing to decide is for people to find out themselves. Testing. Because as much as you can recommend a certain swtich for lets say for gaming for example, it always depends on personal preference. For example, people recommend usually Reds or Browns for gaming. I am using blue switches, and would NEVER switch to anything but blues. I dont have that problem that, supposedly is a problem for "most" people, that its A) too hard to press or B) makes too much noise. So everyone will have other preference. But of course, its still important to let people know whats out there and whats the difference. But the most important I think is that you point out, that people should always only decide after trying Switches/Keyboards out themselves. Go into a store, order some that you potentially can return if not to your liking and so on. But never really decide for a recommendation or preference of other people. Its always nice to recommend something, because certain things are to ones personal liking, but its hard to stay subjective. One always naturally tries to recommend what he/she likes most. Thats normal. ;) I just think its important, at the end, to always recommend people to try things out themselves and then decide, not before. But great video, always nice how much effort you put in your videos.
Thanks for clicking man! Actually helps a first time buyer.
thank you for this review, currently we have lots of new swtivhes like the outemus... i am currently using a rapoo v500s mech keyboards. note really sure about the differences in terms pof how it feels vs other mech keyboards. i was just using my sistems razer mech for reference, and i can notice a little bit of play onmy keyboards vcs hers. and also that the feel or travel on her keyboard is much consistent than mine has... great review, keep it up!
I have a Corsair K70 Cherry Brown. While I love the tactile feedback I found the Clack-Clack still too noisy for my liking. This is inherent in all keyboards no matter the switch because the key bottoms out against the board and makes that loud Clack. What I did was to buy a pack of dental rubber bands at my local drugstore and attach one per key (Google mechanical key o-ring mod for details). The rubber bands act as a shock-absorber. Now my KB is a lot quieter and I couldn't be happier.
Thanks mate! I got MX Blues for my work setup ;)
I use browns
Nice video. I have 4 mechanical keyboards. One of them is n RK61 bluetooth keyboard that I just got yesterday evening. It doesn't have the "10 key" and the number keys doubles as the F keys. It can be used as a wired USB keyboard as well. Has a light blue backlight which is nice. I have a Redragon full sized and a Redragon without the "10 key" and finally a Reccazr full size. Out of all of them, I like the way the small Redragon sounds and then the Reccazr.
OMG thank you so much I haven’t found which is the best key until your video all I wanted is just a quickie keyboard or not that much money keep up the good work

I just ordered my k95 with cherry mx browns (I really hope I like them) I've been using the logitech K800 for 4 years lol
@@PixelHamster Browns are really good and versatile, so I think you'll like them.
I actually use a mixture of red, black, and brown switches all with O rings on my one handed gaming keyboard. The one I bought was all blue keys, which I replaced immediately. I ordered new switches at the same time and replaced them before I ever plugged it in. It's worth noting that I'm using Redragon hardware, so it's Outemu [Gateron] switches. My standard full KB is all red switches with O rings, which is super nice for typing. My one handed half keyboard for gaming is another matter, as it is actually nice to have different pressure keys for different things. My thumb rests on my spacebar and my pinky on the shift key, so red switches are too sensitive for those and I use black. I also like brown on the A+D keys, as red is also a bit sensitive for those keys as I often end up drifting to one side or the other when I don't intend to because of how I hold my hand with red keys. I like the extra "bump" brown has for feedback when I use them, and they are just as quiet as the other keys. All of the other keys I prefer red. I do have blue keys on my numbers row, but that's because I never use them due to having a gaming mouse with a 1-12 number pad on the side so I didn't bother with replacing them because I never use them when gaming anyway.
I like blue. I thought I might like brown, but I hated it and returned it. Best keyboard I ever used was an IBM keyboard on display locally at a Radio Shack in 1986 or 1987. I was there with my grandpa to buy a joystick and the feel of that keyboard was mesmerizing. I've never seen or felt anything like it since.
many people hate blue switches but i like them... i really like the sound 🥺

Good video, however the interesting thing which I think the video confirms is THEY ARE ALL CLICKY and loud. The blue may be slightly louder as it has a double click, but any / all of them are clicky and loud compared to a membrane keyboard. If you sit next to someone who has any color mechanical switch keyboard it's going to sound noisy. This whole blue is clicky and loud and red is silent is simply not true. My advice, go into a Best Buy and try out as many display models as you can before purchasing one, pull their keys off if you're not sure which is which. They are all audible because in the end you have plastic key hitting plastic, or metal, so there is no such thing as silent, blue is only slightly more loud in my opinion. Interestingly I went in thinking I would like the red, but actually kind of like the feel of the blue, and the brown just felt sluggish to me, so everyone is different, definitely go in and try them for yourself before buying, just don't forget your mask ;)
I got the corsair k68 with cherry mx red and this is so gooooodddd! They are soft and you can hear them they are not so quiet and not so loud..
If you want a very smooth linear switch, go with Green or Yellow Alps. If you want a tactile switch, go with Orange or Salmon Alps. If you want a clicky switch, go with Membrane Buckling Springs, Capacitive Buckling Springs, White Alps, or Blue Alps. These switches are heavier than Cherry MX , but in feel and sound, they destroy Cherry MX.
imo gateron blow cherry out of the water, but it is a preference thing.
Gateron definitely has the smoothest feel I'd say, Gateron Clears are bae

[BSG]Titoino You need to desolder the switch to change it.
Agreed. My Red Gateron board feels amazing, but longevity is still questionable tbh. If they can last as long as Cherry, Gateron can easily replace Cherry in the near future.

I have had MX blues, I have reds that I game on at home, and blacks that I type on at work, and razer greens that I bought because I wanted to see what they were like. My favorites are browns, just can't find them in a keyboard that I like. Reds are nice for gaming, not really satisfying for anything else. Blues were ok for gaming, more so for typing. Blacks are ok for typing and gaming, especially if you can't have blues, and can't find browns. Greens were just too heavy for my liking. Couldn't jiggle peak in CS, and lost 10 wpm while typing. They're also exceptionally loud if you don't have a desk mat or something like that.

I came here to ask you if those are good, and if it is possible to customize the keycaps, since i would like to change some of the keys to a different color. Do you know if that is possible and where can i buy replacement caps? also can some switches be replaced?
TTC switch used to be a bad switch brand like Outemu but over time they have improved and upgraded their products a lot nowadays. Eg. TTC Bluish White, TTC Ace, TTC Gold Pink/ Gold Blue . As long as the switch's stem use the Cherry style stem ( the cross shape ) you can slap on it any keycaps set you can find on the market as long as the keycaps stem is also use Cherry style stem too. For replacement keycaps, I suggest Akko keycaps set - not only they are colorful but also fairly cheap too.
