Helldivers 2 Podcast, Helldiver News Podcast, is discussing the Mechanics behind Liberating planets being tied to player population percentage, Community arguments around the over use and punishments of slow in the game, and word on a major update upcoming with major files added to the game that's yet unreleased.

  • i feel like they made a huge mistake bringing them back so fast after operation dismantle. i feel burnt out on automatons still.

  • Firenados need a rework. There's not much you can do except twirl around when they decide to spawn on objective terminals/extract, and it's not even uncommon; it happens way, way, way often. It'd be cool if the firenados were a roaming environmental hazard like the sandstorms in Conan Exile, where you can see them moving around the map and plan your routes accordingly. As long as they're properly roaming, and not player-homing... EDIT: On the slows, not enough people give love that the slows affect enemies too. Leading chasing patrols/enemies into the ice flowers is GOAT.

  • Ok ima beak down my opinions here: 1. Planet progression should be set however make harder to take planets have higher health. This way people can work on a planet without needing half the player base and feel that there making progress. 2. Environmental effects should be scaled like you said. They could always say it’s due to co2 or spore emissions on planets with more bugs or bots 3. Have supply lines and things like the anti air systems visible on the map and have things we worked for have an effect. This way players can work around stuff and see what they have worked for. 4. Here’s a controversial one, only have bile titans when the bile caste is in play and if it is not use behemoths (which most people don’t know about but do exist) and only have hunters and stalkers when the hunter caste is in play. (When the hunter caste is in play there are pouncers) Also make it so we can see if there are going to be bile or hunter enemy’s before going into a mission as I’d rather have penetrative then sickle for bile spewers. 5. Balance weapons out. Some stratagems are sure niche but still sometimes usable but when was the last time you used the dagger or concussive liberator. I say no more. 6. Keep doing what you doing. Love the podcasts and shorts and can’t wait for more videos.

  • The liberation mechanic is working. They've almost freed 27 planets from "managed democracy"! But seriously, defense campaigns are just worse. And I think the bugs being easier to manage is something Joel could work with. Tinker with health pools and Regen - he is already trying some of that. Bot pushback was turned off and the bot planets had only 200k and 300k HP yesterday

  • There's definitely a big issue for me where it doesn't feel like doing any defensive missions is worth it because not enough people are doing them, so I just stop playing the game, or play on non-defense missions. It's just genuinely not worth it because it'll never get defended with the amount of people on them, so I just don't get the point when retrieve essential personnel is just miserable to do. The other defense objectives aren't bad, even if Evacuate High Value Assets plays itself if you do it right. I just feel like there's not much reason to engage with Defense objectives at the moment. Fire and fire tornados don't bother me at all, even though it is frustrating that they just sit right where you need to be for no reason sometimes, clearly targeting you and not the bots. They should be equal opportunists, if they have homing like that.

  • Along with the automaton burnout, it's also just generally easier to explore the whole map for samples with terminids vs bots, which almost everyone is going for with the 4th tier of ship upgrades that was added.

  • The Major Order was always going to fail, but I just hate the loss of ground against the bots. There's the ebb and flow of battle and war, but it really just seems like after the Martale gamble failed that the player base gave up on really protecting planets from the bots. It doesn't help that evacuation missions aren't well liked and are presented as key to defending planets. Also it could just be bot fatigue. Feel like we've been fighting the bots for two full months now, with a three day break after we "defeated" them and a two day break, that was suppose to be over 5 days, when we was told to kill bugs and since we beat it so fast they went "Well go defend all the planets then." I feel like a planet that's been liberated/defended needs a half week buffer before it's required to defend it again, cause it really is disheartening to defend a planet and suddenly you need to defend it again. Or liberating a planet that's suddenly under attack again.

    • Bots had no planetary regen as of yesterday, and probably still don’t. That means defense missions against them don’t NEED lots of players right now.

    • @@WisdomThumbs Just means the bots have taken enough planets. Could even spin it as they stalled out thanks to the efforts of the helldivers. But we lost major ground. The defensive line was broken and the staging base taken.

  • I know it changes but as of this comment (4/23/24 around 2PM CST) it is about a third of the player base on Osananue and another 10,900 or so on Hellmire (though nothing happening on Hellmire so wonder if those are inactive players.) while about 55% or so is on a Bot planet with only Menkent, Vernen Wells, and Coepessa IV being in the double digits. I feel the problem is more on the bot front for not committing to a single target and more of spreading out to every campaign that is active

  • Honestly I feel the bots are running rampant because the retrieve essential personnel missions are too hard. I love bots and play a lot solo but even with my friends those missions dumpster is unless we're playing super tactically and get a little lucky (diff 7). And we easily handle all other missions types. So I just try to avoid defense operations because of that.

  • do you plan on doing your old format to go along with the podcast? It became like part of my mornings watching it like a legit news broadcast along with morning coffee before work

    • Unfortunately the shorts took up my entire day to create and i've since had to return to work. Until i can secure monetization i cant support myself and do the shorts. Id love to return to them and plan to in the future but i am currently fulfilling contracts on a capital campaign to support myself

  • Planet biome has a HUGE impact on where I want to fight. Not a fan of maps that feel like barren fields like Oshaune. Big fan of snow and desert (ustotu was the best) planets because they feel very vibrant in their color pallet. Martale was also beautiful and fun to play on because of the tress and the autumnal coloration. Really hope they have a planet/biome/map generation update that adds more variety. Really want a dense arboreal forest map, like a pine tree version of malevelon creek with mountains.

  • As a certified guy who plays after work and is somewhat competitive i play 7 usually exclusively bots im 100% okay with the difficulty. The biggest gripe i have with the game is the "lack of choice" in weaponry and armor, you need the explosion resistance for those 1 shot rockets and you need the quezar or recoilless to deal with hulks/ tanks. About the fire tornados, why not have the smoke strategems/ grenades make it put out fire. Just a quick thought.

  • should have kept the bots on the outter rim for a longer period of time. you can say oh they are back but then have small attacks for a while. As for defense missions i assumed they were effectly saying hey choose what planets you want to hold.

  • Defence planets should have medels as part of the reward for defending them to get more player to do there part

  • To be honest, bugs are just more fun. The lore is cool and all, but I'm here to have a good time, I work 50+ hours a week. I'm not gonna do something I don't want to do. I'm just gonna BBQ some bugs and have a good time.

  • With fixes and balancing and also players feedback in some topics need consider that I would imagine at least 70% of the player base are not the top tier players but many of them are still completing helldive and impossible difficulties. People want to play there but there are times where the intense impossible scenarios for that 70% of players doesn't make sense.

  • The UX for understanding the war is awful. Most players don't understand that there is a war and that needs major fixing.

  • I like both bugs and bots. My preference is towards bots because they have more challenging units, and you can use terrain more effectively. They should have given us more time after operation disassemble though. if we can't manage a two front war effectively though I shudder to think about what will happen when the Illuminate arrive and we are fighting on 3.

  • When you guys do missions are you going for everything. All objectives samples or just complete mission and get out?

    • We almost always clear the secondary objectives but we don't usually go out of the way for samples and medals. I play mostly for the combat and let the character/account progression develop overtime.

    • I play at level 7, and try to hit every POI and side objective. If I were to player higher it would be objective and get out.

  • What do you think about light gunner armor? Is it good? Actually i can't find tier lists with armors.

    • Tier list maybe for the armor traits, but not for every type of armor rating. As for the armor I wish they had more options passives or combinations. What's the best in my opinion, -50% to survive lethal -50% explosive dmg -2 stim health bonus -scout armor - 2+gerandes -lightning armor As for the amount of armor, still feel like it doesn't help much besides slowing a lot. So for bugs I go lightfast armor. For bots I got medium, maybe heavy but I think heavy is too slow for the amount of protection, the fact that headshots will take full damage really makes the slow speed armor just pointless. Against bots bring in explosive passive trait.

  • In regards to our failed defense in the automaton front, it was not due to the bug only players at all that all of the defenses failed. It was due to disorganization in the bot front, everyone was fighting everywhere at one point when we were defending vernon wells there were 40000 people just fighting unwinnable defenses, and planets that were not even under attack nor had enough people to even get them, if all of them just went to vernon wells we would have gotten it for sure. All succesfull defenses on bugs were due to a better focus on winnable battles, estanu was defended like 3 times, oshaone fell at 97 percent, fori prime was succesfull. But still this is a fault of the game for not explaining how liberation and the war in general works in game, I would also like to say that I care abit about the war and will always play on relevant planets on either front but I really dont mind when we fail sometimes

    • Last thing we should have a bug major order that last the whole weekend, I certainly agree with the bot burnout argument and I totally understand the players that did'nt do a single op in the bot front during these defenses, I personally played bots exclusively for like half a month or so during swift dissassembly and I loved it those planets were all great but after that I really wanted some bug focus, maybe termicide missions again, or something new, or perhaps just like the bots an order for a major push to break the stalemate and push to the last sectors, I mean how many times do we have to liberate estanu and hellmire😢, I want to get to those last planets, i have yet to see what the acid planets are like.

  • The leaks are through data mining. That's a different thing then cheating and that's mostly why anti cheat doesn't work for it

  • The problem I'm noticing is the bugs are too easy they probably need to buff the bugs a little bit so people won't feel like it's such a breeze
