Feds Say Southern States Owe HBCUs Billions In Funding! | America In Black

Historically Black Colleges and Universities produce 80% of Black judges and 50% of Black doctors in America. They’ve cultivated some notable names in politics, music and athletics. From Vice President Kamala Harris to Shannon Sharpe to Megan thee Stallion; HBCUs have the power to uplift their students. However, calculations by the federal government show that some HBCUs are owed billions of dollars from their state legislatures.
On assignment for AMERICA IN BLACK, CBS Saturday Morning co-host Michelle Miller traveled to Tennessee State University to investigate the scarcity in funding given to HBCUs. #BET #AmericanInBlackBET #HBCU

For example in Louisiana funding was sent to Louisiana after a hurricane but the republican governor said to Obama Admin. said people of Louisiana does not need the money. But a few months last there was an oil spill in the gulf, BP the oil company who is a sponsor for this Louisiana governor who was a presidential candidate asked for money for BP despite denying the people he represented for Hurricane relief. Texas, Obama sent money to Texas for hurricane relief especially in the Galveston and Houston areas ... they never got it. The governor choose to pay off their 7million debt and pocket the rest.

Remember that funding for public schools was not originally by districts, but everything was put into a pot and divided. After the Board vs. Brown 1 and later on the second case is when you saw the changing of funding into districts, when you end up having alot of white flight and the creation of new white communities along with schools.

When blacks especially black men who don't vote like 400k didn't in GA only because they didn't want a black woman as governor, they deserver to have their voting rights taken away, Albany, Clark, Morehouse, Spelman and other like them don't deserve 71mil when they vote for a Republican or worse not vote at all. It's their fault. When people who vote and get the benefits because they voted and non-voters reap those benefits too, this is what happens when people who don't benefit and the people who voted pay the consequences for the non-voters. If you ask me I would prefer voters who voted only reap the benefits. The others pay the consequences for not voting.

We know that everyone has the capacity to achieve and excel in any and all areas of endeavour. The fact that achievements are made and documented among HBCUs and in society as a whole, despite a lack of funds, up-to-date equipment and facilities, shows not only the resourcefulness of the black education institutions, but also their determination to rise above the constraining factors that are imposed on them.

Instead many plummeted to the bottom while other cling on for deal life as their mental is challenged while trying to see the other side. These type of discrepancies exist across all systems in the US yet still we stand . Just imagine where we would have been in a fair fight?! Heartbreaking. Maybe instead of partying it up with the Vice President, maybe the student reps should be holding the VP accountable for the federal government not suing or bypassing the states and giving that money directly to the HBCUs.

  • Unfortunately, this isn’t the only reason HBCU’s have struggle and even closed down over the past few years. Corruption, mismanagement of funds and resources have plagued these institutions as evidenced by many accusations or some form of embezzlement taking place. Unfortunately, for some of those schools, it would’ve just been more money to squander. Just look at some of the issues that were highlighted at JSU and other HBCUs during Coach Prime’s time at JSU. Money alone isn’t the issue, it’s not having the right people in place to help these institutions to reach their full potential. As a former HBCU student, I’m hoping they can recover those funds, but they have to get serious about the real problems that have been hindering their progress. It’s like they say, a fool without money will still be a fool with money!💴 🎉🤔🧐
