Yeah, just a natural progression of things. One of the best examples of this is Alanis Morissette's "You Ought to Know", probably the best breakup song ever written. If you watch the original music video and early performances of this song, it's full of anger and Alanis said it herself that the popularity of this song made it worse because every time she sang it, she would go back to thinking about it. But if you see the recent performances, 30 years later, she sings it as if it's just another song, with hardly any sign of any emotion towards the lyrics.

The chord changes! What is this reinvention?! Angelic! My favorite song from SOUR and from Olivia's entire catalog. The lyrics is a challenge, almost taunt-like, "Yeah you're with her, but you'll never wipe me away." Since everyone seems to be in agreement that this is the best version ever performed of this song but aren’t sure why I’d just like to clarify that it’s the perfect instrument arrangement going on. The open chords being used in place of the standard A -> D in the verse and the introduction of passing minor chords notably on the A chord you hear (eg. When she sings the word special) That’s why it sounds so nostalgic and pretty, all joking aside this actually like if Nickleback wrote this song acoustically… it’s why all their music sounds ‘nostalgic’ Hope this helps
