A Surprise At The French Château Ep8
Today at the chateau,
Ash & Tony have taken control of what will be in this week’s episode, with a surprise at the chateau for the rest of the living in the UK. Normally Terry will give instructions on what DIY jobs to film, where to film them and what to say, but this week, Terry’s little dictatorship has been taken over by Ash & Tony doing the renovations at the chateau, with Terry, Tracy & Jonathan in the UK only seeing a preview of what is to come. (Until it needs editing 😂😂)
In this episode, the family finally get to build and do something that drew them to this relaxed way of life.

About us and our story,
We are a family from Middlesbrough in the North-East of England following our dream to restore a beautiful abandoned french Château. We discovered the heart stopping Château De Lalacelle in summer of 2020, this beautiful architectural monument Is set in the countryside of North-West France.
The moment we visited the Château we all fell in love, from the beautiful sweeping landscape and forests, to its stunning untouched interiors and magnificent spiral staircase in the turret.
Unfortunately Château De Lalacelle has been abandoned for a number of decades so will need a lot of restoration and DIY.
Please subscribe and follow our families journey, with the up’s and down’s in moving from the UK to rural France and restoring this beautiful Château to its former glory.

Just an idea guys, foxes are always around and sniffing around chickens looking for an easy meal. We have lived in France (53) for 12 years and have never lost a chicken. We have always had a string of solar lights around the chicken run. Charging during the day and flashing during the night. Foxes hate the flashing lights. Keep up the good work, I remember the hard work we did for 2 years but it's all worth it when it's done.
Thank you very much, great idea 🙏🥰
For health reasons you might want to wear a mask when cleaning certain areas like a chicken coop, just a suggestion.Take care of your health!!! The chicken coop and surrounding area looks great!!! It will be so nice for the family to have fresh eggs.💗😊🐔
Shawn Malleady- You have a good point. My Great Uncle Ray owned an egg laying business. 2,000 Rhode Island Reds. He smoked and had asthma. He was not mindful of the chicken manure fumes, etc and eventually had issues.Better to be on the cautious side..
@@dianehall5345 I so agree Diane.:)
Lovely old bottle! Great find. What a nice yard for the chickens. Loved the video telling little Jonathan that he's getting chickens.
You can use large paint pails on their sides as nesting boxes.. Chickens also love old tires filled with earth to grub in and sit in outside. Don't forget roosting bars, an old ladder will do. Your fence netting should be buried some 30 cms to stop foxes and weasles burrowing under. Another chateau lost their birds last week to foxes.
Gosh a shovel or two and a wheelbarrow would have helped you. Have them here in Australia, but too late to send them. ha ha. Good job.
😂😂 thank you very much, yes we do have some here at the château somewhere 😂😂❤️
Please wear eye Goggles. When you clean chicken co-op. You can put scars On your eyes. This is what I did. And a never go away. My eye doctor told me I must wear eye protection when you around any l Pigeons Or bird Chickens. Just informing you to be protected. Of your eyesight. Great video God-bless you all Keepsafe.
Volailles = Poultry - French person here, absolute fan of your accent!
Merci beaucoup 🙏🥰🥰
You beat me to it Emmanuel!
@@chateaudelalacelle And of course viandes is meat, so meat and poultry.
Such good men! Not afraid to get their hands (and upper torso) dirty and sweaty! Good job, guys!
Thank you very much 🥰
Nothing like your own chickens and eggs. Good Job!!!
Thank you very much 🥰
Tony's box of chicken's seemed to be never ending 🤣
I know 😂🤣😂
You guys need to get yourselves couple of wheelbarrows to transport all sorts of stuff around! Great work.
Thank you very much, yes we do I have some somewhere 😂😂 would make it easier 👍
Chickens the gate-way to farm life! What a nice job, so glad you got their area secure before they came home.
Thank you very much 🥰🙏
Sign: Volailles....means poultry. Lovely work.
Thank you very much 🙏🥰
Great job on the chicken enclosure and love that you are into saving things from the past. Love the stairs coming up from the lower garden!
Thank you very much 🥰🙏
So glad ya'll were able to get chickens. They add so much to the country feel. I love those old buildings. Thanks so much for showing us more of them. I hope you will be able to them all. They are just not made like that any more. I just love seeing the time lapse of the clean up. Before and after vids are some of the best. Everyone loves a good spring clean up.
Thank you very much, yes it’s good to show a nice before and after 🥰
we'll done lads, we love our chickens, enjoy those lovely fresh eggs xxx
Thank you very much 🥰
Good evening La Lacelle Chateau. Glad to see you are making progress on your huge project! I live near Javron Les Chapelles and it was lovely to see my friend Tanya on your show tonight.
Thank you very much, yes Tanya is a fantastic woman with a wonderful family that have helped us so much 🥰🥰
Tanya is a wonderful help to you until you get a handle on your French. Is she going to give you all French lessons?
@@dianehall5345 Ash and Tony do know a lot of french, it was more for directions and if they got stuck, but she has helped them with it 🥰
Nothing like having your own chickens! What a lovely spot for them! We love having ours and fresh eggs. The stable block looks so much better with the underbrush cleared away!
Thank you very much. Yes ash and Tony have done a fantastic job clearing it all out 🥰
This is a massive area to clear, and what a huge change you all have made. Looking good! My goodness! How nice ... very nice chicken yard.
Thank you very much 🥰🙏
This is just great. You are getting better and better and are a joy to watch. Bet the family cannot wait to all be together again. They will see such a difference as seeing video footage is not the same as in real life. Take care and wear masks when doing dirty jobs. Looking forward to your next viewing. 👏👏
Thank you very much, yes we can not wait to be all back together again 🥰
I love watching your determination to bring the chateau back to life, you’re doing a great job. Lucky chickens to be living in a chateau 😍
Thank you very much 🥰
Hi guys, great work ! I do not know if you got your answer already but Langevin is a printing entreprise in Flers, they probably made the sign you found :-)
Thank you very much for that 😮👍
What a fantastic chicken coop, and the chickens are really lovely! I'm not sure about what kind of predators there may be in Britain or France, but watch out for weasels. They will snoop around the coop every night, and if they find a loose board, a gap in the door, or even the smallest area where they can pull off the fencing, then that's it. I learned from sad experience (though I was keeping ducks at the time). What a beautiful place for them, and those eggs are going to be delicious!
It’s looking so good, I’m loving the changes that are being made. Just make sure to wear a dust mask when you’re clearing out areas that has years of muck in them, can do nasty damage to your lungs,(just concerned)
Thank you very much 🥰
The progress the two of you get through is amazing. Clearly hard graft is not a stranger to you. Well done and thanks for sharing the journey. Xx
Thank you very much, yes ash and Tony have done a fantastic job clearing it all 🥰
Hi, please guys wear masks and gloves, also goggles for dust and mite, good luck with all your projects, look forward to your next videos.
Thank you very much 👍🥰
Bonjour, félicitations, nous sommes heureux que ce château reprenne vie, bravo pour votre courage.
That may be underground tunnel escape from the Chateau.
That would be a great title for the video to 😁
Another interesting episode. Love the chicken!!!
Thank you very much 🥰
Great job guys. Lucky chickens! Oh & dogs 🥰🐾🐾🐾
Thank you very much Helen 🥰🥰
Greetings from the Isle of Malta,,, I applaud your determination to restore your chateau but PLEASE WEAR A MASK when you create dust! Safety First!
Thank you very much, we will 🙏🥰
Always so good to see you two.... amazing stuff you accomplish!!
The 'tunnel' behind the Orangery may have been to house heating for the exotic plants and trees. I love the chicken chateau.... Hope those ladies are very happy in their new abode. xx
Thank you very much, yes that is a great idea about the tunnel. The chickens are all very happy 🥰
@@derekbriggs6207 Oh dear🙈! What shell we do with you Derek! 😁
"Escape To The Dream" has been popping up in my feed but it was Stephanie's recommendation which actually brought me here. After enjoying several videos I subscribed, as you suggested, Tony. Ashley, you asked for "our thoughts," so here are mine: you two are supermen! I wish to include the other family members: Tracy is superwoman and Terry is a superman too! Jonathan is a superboy because his elders are such good role models! Love the cats, doggies, chickens and especially the Yorkshire accents! Chuck in Northern New England
you look as if you two are getting on very well love watching what you are getting up to
Thank you very much 🥰
You are doing an amazing job of it but just a word, if you please. A dear friend was cleaning out a chicken coop (he was an archaeologist), he contracted a lung virus from the dust and poop which plagued him his whole life with health problems, he did manage to find a stone egg to entice laying, he called it his million dollar egg as his medical treatments were quite expensive. I would suggest using some type of respiratory equipment in the future. Your health is most important...
I was thinking that too. I got psitticosis working with parrots from inhaling droppings while cleaning. It wasn’t fun!
Thank you very much for the information 🙏🥰
I agree!!!You have absolutely right!!Best comment full of humanity!!
@@debshaw680 Is that a type of infection in your lungs Deb and were you able to cure it? I hope that you are better now!!!:)
@@teedee3834 yes but it took a long time to diagnose because they didn’t ask if I had pets. I’d only recently acquired the bird who was supposed to have a clean health certificate. It was faked. I was sick a long while, I’m hospital for about a week.
Great new look Tony! Looks like you guys got a great week of work done. Can’t wait to see your whole family together at the chateau.
Thank you very much, yes we can not wait to be back together 🙏🥰🥰
(Moira Ashton) Great vlog, loved the clear up for the chickens, it looks very cosy in there for them, I don't know what perches you have put up for them, but an old step ladder is a great place for them to perch, and the easiest way to keep the "poo" in check, is to use a bucket and trowel and clear the coop out each day, rather than let it build up, also in the run... they love all sorts of veg, dig over parts of their run for them to find worms, loved watching this!!
You all are an absolute delight. I cannot wait for you all to be together soon. Great job on the chicken coop, as always !! Stay well ....🥰🌼
Thank you very much 🥰
You guys should wear a mask to clean up chicken/ animal waste. Thank you for the footage.
Thank you very much 🙏🥰
How lovely family. Great work. Regards from Chile 🌌🌬️✌🏻😎
Thank you very much, hope you are enjoying the videos 🥰
I was watching one of those BBC historical Farm shows & they said hens lay better in cozy cubbies in their coop in a darkish environment.
Thank you very much 🙏🥰
Hi Ash & Tony, great video! Good to see your fun sides! Great job! Thank you so much for sharing, take really good care of yourselves, stay well, be safe! Kathy x
Thank you very much, glad you enjoyed the episode 🥰
That could of been the little uns boycave if it was nearer the house. I liked the basket laying in the mess. Great vlog, this summer is going to be so exciting, I just can't wait. X ❤ thank you to you all x
Thank you very much 🥰🙏
You made them a great home. Really looking forward to seeing what’s in the tunnel too. Great finds in the barn.
Thank you very much, yes we will definitely come back to the tunnel 🥰
Enjoyed the improvement s and especially the new chickens. We have goats and chickens on our small farm. So happy for all of you. Janice from USA

Thank you very much 🙏 yes ash and Tony are funny 😂😂🥰
Nice job! It would be nice to see more of what you actually do during the week. You say you got lots done on the chateau and the cottage but when don’t know what it is, it would be nice to see it, our even better - film while you are doing it.
I thought the same thing, would love to see what else they did.

Doing awesome, I just stumbled upon you all. I just subscribed and I will support you by watching your videos, much luck your way!!!
Thank you so much for joining us 🙏🥰
I started rewatching all of the episodes.
Me too. You forget how much has been accomplished.
Another great video. The door leading to the underground room is intriguing - I wonder if it might be an ice house or store house? Before fridges, big houses needed very cold storage and chambers excavated into the ground were often a solution. Its a fair distance from the house though ...
Thank you very much, great ideas. The fridge was originally the little building on the west side of the château as it leads straight to the dining room and kitchen 🥰
@@chateaudelalacelle , it would be fascinating to find the original plans of when all these buildings were put up. Ash is going to have to pluck up his courage (lol), or maybe Tony can get in with the camera and a light. The way it is built inside will give clues go its purpose I reckon.
You will be so happy you brought these chickens to your property. There is nothing like fresh eggs.
Did you prepare some shelfs in different hights inside the chicken house? They love to sleep safe in shelfs and they need a few places for their eggs.
Thank you very much, yes we have a ladder and nesting boxes for them 🥰
Hey Guys, Loved the video and glad to see the chickies in their new home. You're furbabies (dogs) are well loved and its cool seeing them in the videos with you. Loving watching the transformation of the chateau. x
Thank you very much, yes the dogs are a big part of our life’s so have to be involved 🥰🐶
'furbabies' - indescribably WEIRD and just....weird!! Why do people put all this weird nonsense onto pets?! It's a DOG!! It will do exactly the same for you in terms of companionship, making you take exercise, etc, etc. without the pathetic, ridiculous anthropomorphizing which people seem to have to do..... Please, please, please stop it...!!! Please....
The Chicken coup looks great guys, you have done a lot in a short time. interested to see what up with that hole or room that your found. I wonder if you will find other entrances to places as you clean more and more of the over growth of those retaining walls. keep up the great content. all the best. from St. Catharine's Canada
Thank you very much, yes we have not looked in the hole yet, ash is scared of spiders and Tony of snakes is it maybe a while yet 😂😂🥰🥰
I was watching a very new channel called “Chateau Rescue” and what a nice interview! Would love to see more about the well y’all found. That is absolutely fantastic❤️ What a life saver that will be in your future.
Thank you very much, we will be showing more of the well as Tony will be growing veg up there 🥰
Good Tuesday morning from our New Hampshire farm! Sunny here with much needed rain on the way for Thursday. You are making good progress. As another viewer suggested, please wear dust masks when cleaning out coups or any really dusty area. Mold and spores can be air born with all your sweeping. Lovely chicken coop and chickens! You will be enjoying fresh eggs soon... I'm forwarding your videos to a friend in Leeds. I would love to see her check out France for a countryside home! You all are working so well together to get this project underway. We have 4 new calves so far this spring and working on our gardens. Do yo know what growing zone the chateau is? We are ZONE 4-B. Short growing season, but we have a green house. Looking forward to seeing the grounds rejuvinated! Cheers! ~ Diane
