This is the FULL fight against the new mini boss in the Darkest Dungeon 2 DLC: The Binding Blade. In this video we take on the final step of the Lost Crusade quest and fight the fearsome new boss: The War Lord
this warlord guy looks like he's this close to becoming either a nurgle follower, or he's killed a great unclean one, nicked its weapon, and is so focused on whatever he's doing here, that he can't be corrupted
Obviously a Khornate Champion who has lost his way

Warlord squaring off against MaA is such an epic sight. Two battle scarred generals in the front with locked eyes on each other.

As a combat item it lets you go first and stun with HWM. Reminds me of the DD1 go first and stun days

I absolutely did not expect that intro animation. It's short, but it does a good job of making this guy feel a lot more menacing. Kinda wish all bosses had something like it.
They did add intro animation for Warlord and outro animations for Duelist's and Crusader's shrine battles. I wish they did so for everyone.

Cutting off the ears of fallen foes was a way of counting the war dead (most famously used by mongols a couple times)
The sheer PRESENCE the Warlord has is awesome! The intro really settled it for me with how the dust clears as he stomps the earth, as if to clear the dust and darkness. Not to mention his voice and his design. He’s a wonderful boss in my opinion, and a nice way to wrap up the little quest we have to get Reynauld.

THATS THE MF THAT COMMANDED THE ARMY THE MAN AT ARMS LOST TO THOSE SOLDIERS WERE IN HIS FLASHBACK MISSION AND his helmet is very similar to the banner bearer skeletons of the catacombs in DD1
Though it could be from the same culture, if true, that would make the two facing each other on the front line quite a story
He's also the same champion the crusader kicked the shit in during his backstory!
My guess is he is a road boss at the “Army” nodes after the first fight you have with him, either that or he has a higher chance of appearing with crusader or MAA in the party since he’s connected to the both of them.
Once you beat him he can spawn at the Barricade fights randomly

While Google Translate probably should be taken with a big spoon of salt, these are the """appropriate""" Latin translations working off of the English: Prepare = Para (A) Fierce Assault = Atrox Impetus (To) Cut = Secare (no change) Fisticuffs = Pugnorum The Guard (assuming it's a proper noun since it buffs his allies) = Custodes Again, GT probably isn't the most reliable tool, and I have no knowledge whatsoever on Latin, but that's what GT says.

With a final click, the padlock fell away, and the rusty cage door swung open with an almost painful creak. I was about to reach inside to aid the huddled figure within, but he moved first, pulling himself upright. Evidently his strength had not left him entirely. His face was unshaven, his hair longer and messier, his cheeks a little hollow from malnourishment, but there was no mistaking the same bright eyes and battered tabard that I remembered so clearly. There could be no doubt - Reynauld, my oldest friend, alive and (relatively) well. "Dismas" he croaked, then coughed and spoke more clearly. "I see you have not changed much since last we met. Still skulking around with outlaws and vagabonds?" His small smile betrayed the truth of his feelings, though - by his standards, that meant he was bursting with joy. "Considering this 'outlaw' just saved your bacon, you could bother to use the polite term - 'opportunist'" I countered. Any further verbal sparring was forestalled by the approach of Audrey, who deposited a large wooden box at our feet "Yours, I believe." Before either of us could thank her, and with a tip of her wide-brimmed hat, she turned her attention to rummaging amongst the corpses of our fallen foes. Reynauld reached down into the box, and over his shoulder I saw the hilt of his trusty longwsord, the curve of his resolute helm, and the folded form of his sacred battle banner. Suddenly, there came a horrible sound from behind us. Spinning around, I could scarcely believe my eyes as the bloodied body of the Warlord heaved itself upright against a broken barricade. "You think... this... is over?!" His voice was little more than a strangled gurgle, but it was incredible to think he even had breath left in his lungs at all. "I... never... lose! I... will... not..." He broke off into a deep hacking cough, and I sensed Reynauld walking past me. In his armoured hand he clutched a scroll... wait, surely it could not be... THAT scroll? Standing before his defeated nemesis, the Crusader raised the parchment high, and let it unfurl. The blessed words inscribed upon it seem to glow in the fading light as Reynauld, face set with righteous anger, bellowed forth the holy phrase: "It says you're a *FUCKING HERETIC!"* A great boom sounded, and a bright golden light flashed, as though a thunderbolt had stuck down right before us. As I averted my gaze from the blinding glare, I could just about hear the Warlord letting out one final panicked scream of agony. By the time I blinked away the spots from my eyes, all that remained of the Warlord was a pile of charred armour, still faintly smoking. Satisfied, Reynauld turned back to me, and for the first time in all my memories of him, he was actually openly grinning. "Well then - shall we depart?" He gestured back towards our stagecoach, where Baldwin and Audrey were already securing our latest plunder "No doubt, our holy work is far from done?..."

Good job. Now all I can think is that Reynauld and the Warlord have a Bread Boys father-son dynamic.

Pretty sure they reused the Cultist Priests sounds for the Warlord. Definitely the pain grunts. At least he's not giving us the Finger.
what region number do you reccomend fighting him in? he gets stronger as regions go by, but your party can get more mastery and trinkets and stuff
I mean if you do it region 3 he replaces exemplar so that can be good. You'll have the most mastery too

Yes! After you defeat him he will be able to spawn in randomly at the Barricade fights!
I didn’t heal a single time during this fight... I just beat his face in with burn, bleed, and blight till he was dead then dealt with his underlings.
Honestly forgot Red Hook can make a boss that doesn't make you want to pull out your hair. Was fully expecting something worse than Focused Fault at this point with a stupid cage mechanic on top.

@@Britishbrat Looking at his resistances, Burn actually seems much better. Could use Runaway (or just Crusader once you unlock him), but I’d imagine even combat items that inflict Burn would help a lot. Or Magnesium Rain on PD.

I remember going into this fight when I was planning to end Act 2, I was scared since I didnt really prepared for it. He got fucked by my Alch PD, Deadeye GR and Sharpshot HWM. Rained Blight on him along with crits.

@@Britishbrat I was into the theory that Crusader is no longer a choose-able character since he was not released with the first batch of heroes and new heroes. I never thought Red Hook Studio would add him in as a D.L.C.

They're so much better than they used to be, honestly barely an issue now.
@@Britishbrat considering thats what people said on launch, and how utterly intrusive that mechanic was then, i doubt doesnt feel good to get punished even when you are doing right with basically a guaranteed game over, and it doesnt feel good to have the win handed too you either

such false advertising by Red Hook. they said there was a new boss with this DLC, they didnt say it was a 1 time boss to unlock the crusader...... so no the salespoint for this dlc shouldve been 2 characters, 1 from the original game, that is locked behind a quest that includes the "roaming boss" in its completion. this was a pathetic DLC for the game.
Once you beat him he becomes a roaming boss you can run into ANY time lol
