This is how chess is truly meant to be played. Black took White completely out of boring theory and forced White to think on the fly. The chess world needs much more of this. Bobby Fischer hated chess in his later years because he correctly noted that it had become nothing more than brute memorization, rather than over-the-board thinking. This is an awesome game and should be a wake up call to stodgy theorists.
Awesome game for the winner terrible game by Danya he could’ve played things differently and had better result
Dont worry we play it right
cheating isn't truly how chess is meant to be played, comrade
Cheating how? It's fairly playable. Andrew Hang beat Hikaru with this too. 😂
I‘m quite sure it‘s White taking Black out of theory here with a4 and Ra3 😅
How is that cheating he's doing perfectly legal moves, you shouldn't be banned for playing legal moves.
Cheating (at least in this case) would be using a bot to pick your moves, or some form of hacking (that would result in a legitimate appearing game save), or some sort of player collusion. At least those are the only ones I can think of.
I can see the logic of trading a rook for a bishop very early in the game. The rook is more an end game piece, particularly the Queen side rook if you plan to castle King side. Danya's Queen side rook moved just 3 times in the game and never left the back rank; not exactly an over active piece and one I'm sure he wouldn't have minded swapping out for that early bishop he traded.
Interesting point. I've heard Ben Finegold say that giving someone rook odds is easier than giving them bishop odds for that reason.
It’s a new opening and it’s repetitive nature will eventually be flagged statistically. The player is skilled at it and there is no learned move behavior to counter it at this speed level.
Danya is very skilled at 960 and I'd expect him to learn traps from the early games even with a short time control. Maybe a 70ish game match wasn't enough learning or tilt/fatigue was enough to offset learning.
@@bsmith5167 Hopefully this will be cleared up and this move opening will be utilized in long format Chess too. But, Maybe it would have little success there ?
@@Rizzycat1this opening will not be used in longer formats, the point of the opening is to make your opponent make decision they aren’t use to making. It would be cool to see this opening fully fleshed out from open to close tho
Even the world of chess has become a circus. Nothing is safe any more.
Silicon intelligence is changing humans.
@@cantonold7014 For the worse, unfortunately.
We now have amazing chess engines that give us brilliant games and help us learn, but at what cost...
😞
As we venture further into the 21st century everything will only become more unrecognizable from our 20th century understanding of the world. Life in the 1920s was more akin to the late 1800s than the 1990s the year 2080 isn’t too far away. It might be a dystopian wasteland it might be a futuristic dreamscape who knows. Chess is 1500 years old it might be the one thing that remains the same throughout the ages people in the year 2104 are still going to be blundering their queens don’t you worry.
People keep saying it's disrespectful to acquire a full bishop advantage in early and mid-game...
I didn't recognize the name, but then when I looked him up, I remember him and he is one of my very favorite GMs. I've watched him play numerous times on another channel (that I wont mention) but his play is just sublime. I highly doubt he cheated, he doesn't come across as that type of guy at all (and I'm pretty sure he doesn't need to cheat).
😂 GM named leela stockfish definitely don't need cheats to beat any human. Who else can beat naroditsky like a noob with "rook for a bishop gambit"😂
@@uduehdjztyfjrdjciv2160 In blitz Danya is definitely beatable. He is too good only in bullet.
The guy clearly cheated. This is an opening often played by AI to disrespect players like Magnus in tournaments. Stockfish played this opening numerous times against human players.
@@imagine917 How are you going to cheat in a 3minute game? Explain the set up, because I don't even think it's physically possible.
@@Jez2008UK Why ask me? Why not just google it? A simple google search would tell you that there are chess programs that work with browsers and that they even move the pieces for you. You don't need to click anything.
Would certainly be willing to view more recaps of games between these two.
Gotham did like 3 or 4
Why? Because it is dodgy.
He didn't cheat, he's an honest guy. He only cheats on his girlfriend, but never in chess.
There is no such thing as cheating on your girlfriend. It is not a rule or law.
Did he really?
@@ufcspidersilva88 There use to be for cheating on your wife. It was called adultery and use to be prosecuted in rare circumstances.
@@allanfifield8256 Adultery is when she is already married but if she is single then you can choose to marry her as well and have multiple wives if you are willing to take care of them.
@@adadaasamouh7519 not sure, it was meant as a joke.
How is original play (some say anomalous play) equated with cheating?
😂😂
there was no cheating as i could tell. All pieces moved as they should be. sure, he probably could have taken him out earlier, but it seems there was no rule, just racing the clock. So in reality, the hosts of this tournament/site need to be grown ups and reverse this and leave things to humans, not algorithms.
Dont see sacrifices like that often, it breaks the monotonous positioning.
Carlsen played in the same way against Pultinevicius, but with whites
This is it. This is the perfect chess video title.
lol thanks haha, not sure how great my thumbnails are etc but hey I try
"Opening up"? No, just opening!
I can't watch Gotham chess. He's like nails on a blackboard to me.
AHAHAHAH ROOK HAHAHJAJAJ
Could. Not. Agree. More.
His channel has evolved into buffoonery.
I kind of like him
I had to give up Gotham Chess. The click bait and the wowie-zowie drove me off. My choice, by far, is "Hello everybody . . ."
With queens off 2 rooks can be useless against two strong bishops.
I think rules of thumb like this are what I need to improve at this level. Like, when to keep or sacrifice what pieces.
Another brill video thank you. I'd love to see some with more about you your chess background\ rating etc
thanks a lot, I bought a camera recently so might film a few OTB and post shortened version with some commentary overlay
I’m so happy you covered this story!
Daniel was killing him until he passed up NxRck about 3:38. You need to keep the Queens on the board to create horizontal threats otherwise the rooks have difficulties penetrating.
This video prompted me to go looking for a new set of pieces for my ancient Radio Shack electronic chess game. My uncle bought it for me when I was like 8. After 40+ years of moving around and the trapdoor storage bin getting bumped & dumped, more than half the pieces were missing, but now that problem will be resolved. Looking forward to playing again! 😃
fair play ban = krymnik's procedure?
I wonder how in a game with those time limits one would be able to cheat. Please enlighten me I want a score of 3000 and I have no Idea how to use any engine that fast.
I am waiting for the Exchange Opening Chessable course
Great channel! Great content as always!❤
Thanks so much!
Great analysis where did brandon post this?

Reddit link is attached in the description as well :)
I would like to see an outcome where the rook is not taken. Danya did win 40% of the matches
Thank you for pointing this out. I know absolutely nothing about chess but it seems obvious to me that if there is free will then the rook does not have to be taken. Let us see for ourselves the outcome of this move.
Smart move to link Gotham. Love your content.
thanks a lot yeah I mean was just being straight really that you gotta go there for details on this one!
How does this opening look if the opponent declines? Is the rook on the third rank playable?
"Backup account"... in other circles - known as "Smurf account", a disrespectful move to step away from your current rating, and play versus newbies. It's like Mike Tyson putting on a wig, to bash some featherweights. I'm A-OK with the ban - but the reason was laughably bad.
If you can checkmate your opponent early trading a rook for a piece can be very good but against another GM it would be very hard to do
yeah and this opening proper gets in your head if you're facing it I think haha, desperate not to lose
@@epicchess2021just like the bongcloud
terrible. It's very hard to cheat effectively at 3 0 time controls. Although I prefer long increments, it is very east to cheat with 10 seconds or more as an increment.
The game looked all over after 10 moves-to my untrained eye blacks recovery was highly suspicious. There must be some way of checking? I heard some guy callled Kramnik can detect cheaters. Let’s ask him.
They should simply self film their blitz playing to have at the ready to display for cheating accusations... solved.
How is it cheating? Unless you're making illegal move after illegal move...wheres the illegality ?
How in the world is the position at 2:30 eval'd as equal?
Also thanks for your great channel
thanks appreciate it and cheers for watching! Oh just saw your channel too, some cool blitz battles on there :D
@@epicchess2021 Awesome that you respond!! I leaped out with a Big WOW! I was a little concerned in placing the 'link' as it may, or could, or would, come across as self-promotion, which I personally try my hardest to steer from same, as I'm rather uncomfortable with that, although in case it's about Samson. So, I'm really happy with your response and your awesome feedback. I earlier spoke with my friend in Dunedin, this evening, and mentioned of your great channel, where he might have a look at least at GM Daniel's games. Also of course, other wonderful highlights of your dedicated chess channel. Thanks for the hard work it takes, for you on your channel. You're really good at it.
First we do the procedure.
It's a weird opening but Daniel threw the game with his bishop sac which was defended pretty easily. Not taking the rook with his bishop was incredibly suspicious though, as well as pretending to be Brazilian (VPN?).
What?? The only suspicious thing here is that you think he should have taken the rook. Are you like 1500 elo or what? I'm only 2200 so I'm not GM-level or anything, but it was pretty obvious to me he wasn't going to give up his bishop there. It was a trap. White wanted to give up the rook to get one of the bishops off the board, but black didn't take the bait, and rightfully so. Black would have lost their biggest advantage if they took the rook with the bishop there. They had no reason to accept that trade.
@@mayebeline1149 Engine agrees with me.
@@KiiroSagi: If he did the opposite of what the engine says, then how is it suspicious? You didn't think that through too hard did you? 😂😂

I always play non-existent gambits when I can. After this, I'd better lose with them. (Fortunately, I usually do, anyway.)

Hyper-modern openings come off the back of the Postmodernist ideal to break classical ideas. What do we categorise the openings like this which break even modern chess ideas?
garbage? haha, or some kind of new category actually - phycological play/pet lines?
Ridiculous
I am unsure the play certainly seems dodgy to me, but it is difficult to tell. Thanls James.

1:05 "And now we see the *feen ketto* of _both_ bishops!" Sorry, the *what* of the bishops? It's not just your accent; I'm a chess noob so I have literally no idea what you mean. 😅
it's not so easy, winning these "wiining" positions against a strong player, especially (or maybe only) at short time controls
Daniel was killing him until he passed up NxRck about 3:38.

tyvm kramnik
Can we replace the nerdy commentators for championships and candidates with this cool guy?
I'm gonna tell my wife someone finally called me cool, haha thanks a lot tho. Unfortunately I'm not a strong enough player! Top 1%, but not quite top top % to be commentating
Can someone explain why these players are banned?

Wow nan xreated history 😂😅
Can someone explain to me, a chess novice who just stumbled in here, why he got banned for cheating?
Bishop = +5
Idon't understand how he cheated. Can someone please explain?
Me either and I don’t think he did!
Rook sacrifice in the beginning, shouldn't be alarming. People sacrifice the pony all the time i.e Halloween gambit. I personally some times exchange rooks for knights. I am a low rated player but chess was supposed to be fun and challenging. Thats what I do. I play mostly. Taimanov sicilian and i get the chance to throw my pieces randomly and still win in bullet 😂
doesn't the chess company have a rule that you can't use "fake" accounts? i seem to recall kramnik getting banned for that reason recently.
Not a fake account. Just not using his name is all
@@bozbozman1575 note that i put "fake" in quotes. in that context, it means the word represents something that i don't really have a better word for.
@@victorfinberg8595 What Kramnik did was use another player's account -- basically, pretending to be someone else. That's illegal. That's not the same as playing anonymously, which is fine.

@@epicchess2021 Today's Late Titled Tuesday. Round 11. Magnus v Hikaru. Hikaru gave Magnus mate in one, on purpose. Magnus refused to take it. What was that about?
You are using "emperor with no clothes" incorrectly. It's not such a literal saying.
But that’s the beauty of it I am using it in a literal sense when I say it
Not for nothing I thought it was atrocious play by Danya early on when he could’ve taken the Rook with a check he passed up on it instead moving Queen elsewhere it seemed like he was playing to lose I did watch Gothams video on the subject of the cheating scandal he more or less felt two things either the guy is cheating or just being falsely accused he didn’t give his own opinion either way but he did want to set up an OTB rubber match between Danya and Brandan and said he might even bring Brandan on board for an interview most part terrible game by Danya I thought more so than anything Brandon did spectacularly not just taking pieces when he could did work out well for him Thanks James
Taking a rook with a bishop is dubious if files are not open, as is the case in the early opening. It requires a grind into an endgame to demonstrate the win, which is hard to do consistently in speed chess, even at this level between 2 fairly evenly matched players. Given that the score was 60/40, the only reason to ban the guy was to protect Danya's reputation.
The swarming of the four Black minor pieces as amazing to watch. The Rook on e3 was helpless.
Q1. How can anyone cheat in chess? Q2. Especially in a 3-min. game? I know these are silly questions but I'm learning at our school chess club and no-one knows.
With great difficulty but possible see my video called how to cheat at chess
Seriously?😅
The old fashioned way is to plug the moves into an online engine as you are playing. The new way is to run scripts. Its basically a program that plays for you. Difficult to catch these people because they can turn it on and off.
There is NO evidence that he is cheating. Is he probably cheating? yes, but if you have the slightest understanding of statistics, you understand that, as he is repeating the same unorthodox opening, the statistics are unfairly inflated in his disfavour. I have no qualms about him being banned because of statistics, but he should be banned because he is **probably** cheating , and not banned and accused of cheating which is a world of difference.
3:57 f6 rook to f8 better no?
You might be right forget details sorry !
@@epicchess2021 Yeah I just walked through it and the opposing queen is basically checkmated with only one position openly available (g6) then it gets sided by the other queen eventually taking it out but the black bishop takes queen and mates the white knight too. This is honestly the best defense if bait is took as bishops are better than rooks and just creates a long game attrition any attempt to sacrifice your bishops should be avoided at the start of a game
Let's go Brandon!
Seriously - would an engine sacrifice a Rook within 3 moves^^....
Maybe to get 2 strong bishops.
No, but you can do that on yourself and then use an engine to win with less material... Im not saying that he cheated... but for many players use the engine in one or two moves is enough to win...
Danya’s soy boys called the Feds 😂
clearly a cheater. come on
The GM's use AI to study games... cheating? If you have a good memory, then ya kinda
Bullshit.
Not cheating
The guy is clearly cheating. If you look at the other games, he was doing well until the end game where he messes everything up. The guy is often up many pawns in the end game but he blunders a lot for some reason. The only reason Daniel won is because the other guy is often losing on time and blunders in the end which is very sus.
Nice
