There was an article somewhere that talked about how iconic Max Factor was, but the grandsons wanted to do something more "on trend" aka, they wanted to cater to youth culture/subculture like UD was doing very successfully

      @MizKittyLee@MizKittyLee8 ай бұрын
    • Oh I remember that! They always struck me as a little more fancy and normie, though - pre-Naked palette, UD was still considered much more punk. I remember Revlon Streetwear fondly as the first drugstore attempt to move in on UD’s turf. Smashbox was worn by the more glam girls.

I don’t know if they’re failed or something, but I really miss brands who used to be on top in 2010s like Urban Decay, Becca, Nyx, I know some of them are still on the market but they’re like kinda flopped, If you know what I mean, a few years ago a I was a teenager who loved make up and lived for dreaming about products from these brands, but now it’s like these dreams just faded away. • No surprise there, Estee Lauder has given the kiss of death to a number of truly iconic, innovative brands such as Mac, Bobbi Brown, Origins and Clinique. I still can't forgive them for having killed Prescriptives, which probably Robert has never had the pleasure of using because of his young age, and the fantastic hair products brand Ojon. They purchase great brands from the original creators but, being a corporation, all they are interested in is making a quick buck at the expense of quality, innovation, customer care and uniqueness. I haven't bought anything from the Estee Lauder brands for a very, very long time.

    @kaelynevans1874@kaelynevans18748 ай бұрын
    • She definitely threw them under the bus. I remember how she placed blame solely on them because they (and maybe Jaclyn…?) apparently wanted to increase their stock before launch, so they allegedly used another lab. I understand that she likely didn’t have a big say in who their labs were, but she still got paid, slapped her name on it, and pushed it out to her consumers, so how blameless could she truly be?

  • Becca was the BIGGEST surprise. I still don't get it. They had SO MANY iconic products. Their original (new ones were shit) liquid highlighters - perfection. Their bronzer in the lightest shade was the best bronzer I have ever used (both formula and shade) - I bought like 4 when I heard they were closing. Under eye brightening corrector. I also bought like 5 (I didn't know about the Smashbox deal) and I use it religiously every single day.

    @lenusniq_9746@lenusniq_97468 ай бұрын
  • Years and years ago, I was invited to attend an IFABBO event where Becca was a sponsor. They gave us a large face brush that hadn't been released yet, along with several glowy face products and foundation samples. I still have that brush, and it is amazing for bronzing and contouring. I believe this was back in 2013? It was before they blew up on YT and before they were sold. Very kind people. They sent me the brush when mine was missing from my gift bag. They had included some other products in the box as an "I'm sorry," which I thought was kind. I bought a few things over the years, but they never had that one amazing product that I needed to repurchase over and over again, and I had other products I liked for my kit better, so they never became a staple for me. I suspect this is the case for so many others. The fact that they saved only two of their "iconic" products and moved them under the Smashbox label says a lot to me.

This weird perception of brands comes from advertisers knowing how to use applied psychology. Videos like these are GOOD and you are pro-consumer to enjoy the downfall of companies in an incredibly sketchy & unethical industry. They convince us we're unattractive without their overpriced products, I think it's great to develop corporate literacy & educate consumers in the industry. • I have so much to say about Becca. I discovered them super early and I was quickly so dedicated to them, the foundation, stick foundation, powder in the slightly skanky brown rubbery packaging. The brand grew and then we got the highlighters etc, totally addicted...but then Jaclyn came and it put me off totally, but I'm in the minority I know. The fall of the brand was so sad, and I feel like it was that no pigment foundation that was the death knell. I tell you this though, I bought three of the liquid highlighters when they brand died and nothing compares to them, not rare beauty, nothing. Waterproof, sweatproof, everything proof and no sparkle. • R.I.P. Becca. And yes, Davis Factor is one of the Great Grandsons of Max Factor. He and his Brother Dean Factor launched their brand originally in Nordstrom in around 1996(?) The brand was born from Davis's career as a Fashion and Celebrity Photographer who had opened his own Photo Studio named Smashbox (an old school term for a camera) So the connection to 'light' in the Becca Highlighters coincides with the lighting in a photo studio...

  • I'm guessing that the hourly rate for arm & hand models is substantially lower than, say, couture runway models. It's absolute greed to not spend $500 or whatever to do swatches. Im sure they do as many products as possible in the allotted time. I doubt that swatch photos have to be taken as part of the ad campaign, in fact they almost never feature aesthetic elements from the campaign, so this is aggressive racism, pure & simple. It must be no effort at all to set up swatch day, yet they want to do it with just 1 or 2 models. I would love to talk to an arm model who does a lot of swatches...

  • I worked at Sephora during the peek all of these brands and those collabs that have now fallen off it was insane. When we had these launched it was all hands on deck and the flashbacks are both hilarious and terrifying. As a black woman i was over most of these brands and quit makeup all together. I still love makeup and will always be an artist at heart but now i only do a few clients on the side and its so much better. I work jn a different industry and can fully love makeup again. Also black women support led becca so hard and they didnt really use that to there advantage. The highlight in Topaz and the deeper foundations in the pump and the powder were amazing for oily skin and the darker shades were some of the deepest on the market at the time with beautiful undertones they really dropped the ball on a big market. Oh and that primer was everything i forget the name but it was soooooooo good.

After YEARS (I'm 58) of searching for a foundation that really matches my skin, and purchasing high end/ low end/ mid-end brands, I found a match as close to my skin as possible, and its.........drum roll....Revlon Photo Ready Insta Fix stick foundation! I got if for $5, and it's great! I always considered myself a warm undertone, and for the most part I am, but this has a more "greige-y" neutral undertone and it's perfect! • I must be the only person who LIKED the Zero “foundation.” For me a foundation isn’t solely about evening skintone, but it’s an overall base to blend all the rest of your makeup into, from blush to bronzer. At least on me, primer -> blush just isn’t going to apply right, I NEED that extra layer fresh foundation provides to blend it into. The Zero stuff provided THAT benefit for me perfectly, AND really blurred my texture. I tried it as a primer and it absolutely DID NOT WORK as one. It got gross and pilled up. I still have my container of it and use it on occasion. I just think it’s a very niche product, and because of that it got a lot of hate from the majority of people (for whom it didn’t work).
