I'm old enough to remember when Poppy was making youtube videos with her decked out in Pink and repeating 'I'm Poppy" over and over again. At the time I thought it was genius marketing. Can honestly say I never expected this kind of music to come out of her. Very cool.

Poppy was my gateway to modern Japanese music via Babymetal, and I Disagree is one of my favorite albums from the past several years. Pretty great here too.

First time seeing a video of her live. That's awesome. She's actually very talented.
Saw her the other night and it was amazing, besides her performance the drummer is really underrated. He loves what he's doing and keeps perfect time.
Totally agree - he's great! I have a saying "The drummer maketh the band" and it is true in this case!
Ralph Alexander is a bit of an animal for sure! There are some videos of him playing along to some Poppy rehearsal tracks on his KZhead page.

damn I didn't know Moriah does her own screams. It's typical for most musicians who aren't metal (but try to be) to find other musicians to do the heavier, more technical stuff. But this is why I like Poppy, because she is actually willing to put in the effort
honestly her screams are pretty bad and amateurish lol, cool she's making the effort, but it just sound like a little girl screaming uncontrollably with 0 technique. i wish she improve in that aspect, i do like her music but as a live performer there's a lot lacking.

If you have been around since her early days she obviously is not a metalhead, something recently had intrigued her about the genre, which is obvious by her discography. So that being said, of course she isn't going to have Courtney LaPlante screams at this point. But seeing THAT effort, on screen, is why I think she is putting in the actual effort of blending metal with her preferred genre

WOW THIS IS GREAT This has raw rock energy. I don't understand why she uses double track so loud. She can sing it by herself.
I caught her on the most recent tour and the backing track here is much louder. She uses it for multi-layered vocal moments and where she can't sing it all at once, but yeah, her singing ability is there for sure.
still makes a great effect having doubled vocals, specially with the track vocals that has effects, imo it makes a good contrast with performed vocals
Double tracking is pretty much a current trend in hiphop shows. It’s not much about abilities.
Yeah feels like playback through the whole song because she's mostly singing quiet parts.

Yeah man. I just found them. Listened to the whole I disagree album. Was pretty worried that it started with concrete. Thought it was gonna be some shitty Billie eyelash depressed girl emo shit. Lol but actually has a lot of good songs on it. Tons of experimentation like you said. Bite you teeth has such baby metal vibes.

Plus she improved a lot as a performer and is finally owning that

I saw her live in LA and it was amazing! I loved it. I wasn’t the biggest fan going in but I’ve been with her since the beginning and always thought she was talented and wanted to show support. I can confidently say I’m a fan and love seeing her grow into her own skin.

I've been a fan of poppy since her videos with titanic Sinclair. At first I liked her because I thought she was weird and creepy in a cute way, and I loved that. Now I like her because she is a talented artist and a glorious being.

Im interested in who writes the music(not the lyrics necessarily ) because I saw her live the other day and they were ON POINT! the sound was next level clear and amazing. I got this feeling like the guitarist had a lot to do w it but that's just speculation. I was converted- great musicianship
Poppy writes the music in collab with various band members and other long term collaborators. It all works so well because it was clearly written for the purpose of live performance. I was impressed seeing her live in Birmingham- you could hear every word, even when Ralph the drummer was giving it some stick. There is obviously multitracking support etc but even a tricky number like pocket came across well. Blood money, FYB and lessen the damage were absolute hellfire.

Rumour has it one time Oloff was sat next to Jar Jar Binks on a flight. Jar Jar kept kicking the chair in front of him and generally being obnoxious, nobody knew what to do. Eventually one of the flight attendants came over and asked Oloff if he would perform one of his songs to calm Jar Jar down, and when Oloff began rapping the first verse to Doing It Stealthy, Jar Jar immediately relaxed. To this day the two are still close friends.

This song is on her I Disagree album from 2020. She’s not “metal” exactly, but mixes lots of genres. There’s some heavy moments on I Disagree. If you want a heavy song listen to Say Cheese from her Eat EP
I Disagree is something of a nu-metal album. Same with Eat EP, and her new album Flux is more punk/shoegaze
Do yourself a favor and go listen to Eat It's not only a great Poppy release, it holds up amazing against most of the metal scene
