  • I'm old enough to remember when Poppy was making youtube videos with her decked out in Pink and repeating 'I'm Poppy" over and over again. At the time I thought it was genius marketing. Can honestly say I never expected this kind of music to come out of her. Very cool.

  • damn I didn't know Moriah does her own screams. It's typical for most musicians who aren't metal (but try to be) to find other musicians to do the heavier, more technical stuff. But this is why I like Poppy, because she is actually willing to put in the effort

    • @@inma5665 I don't know what you are hearing but hip pointed out why I made this comment. If you have been around since her early days she obviously is not a metalhead, something recently had intrigued her about the genre, which is obvious by her discography. So that being said, of course she isn't going to have Courtney LaPlante screams at this point. But seeing THAT effort, on screen, is why I think she is putting in the actual effort of blending metal with her preferred genre

    • I caught her on the most recent tour and the backing track here is much louder. She uses it for multi-layered vocal moments and where she can't sing it all at once, but yeah, her singing ability is there for sure.

  • Discovered them yesterday, listened to the I disagree album and am a Fan now. Reminds me of Jinjer, Babymetal, Pendulum, Billy Eilish, Limp Bizkit, St. Vincent, Nine Inch Nails, Muse, Queen, BMTH... It's pretty cool, how experimental they are 🤘

  • Im interested in who writes the music(not the lyrics necessarily ) because I saw her live the other day and they were ON POINT! the sound was next level clear and amazing. I got this feeling like the guitarist had a lot to do w it but that's just speculation. I was converted- great musicianship

    • Poppy writes the music in collab with various band members and other long term collaborators. It all works so well because it was clearly written for the purpose of live performance. I was impressed seeing her live in Birmingham- you could hear every word, even when Ralph the drummer was giving it some stick. There is obviously multitracking support etc but even a tricky number like pocket came across well. Blood money, FYB and lessen the damage were absolute hellfire.

  • Rumour has it one time Oloff was sat next to Jar Jar Binks on a flight. Jar Jar kept kicking the chair in front of him and generally being obnoxious, nobody knew what to do. Eventually one of the flight attendants came over and asked Oloff if he would perform one of his songs to calm Jar Jar down, and when Oloff began rapping the first verse to Doing It Stealthy, Jar Jar immediately relaxed. To this day the two are still close friends.

    • This song is on her I Disagree album from 2020. She’s not “metal” exactly, but mixes lots of genres. There’s some heavy moments on I Disagree. If you want a heavy song listen to Say Cheese from her Eat EP
