  • Lleva Polkka - Finnish folk song 1920's - is about a neighbor boy who is in love with his neighbor named Leva. He sees her dancing in her backyard at a family gathering and wishes to dance with her. Leva's mother is guarding her from attention from boys, but he successfully jumps the fence and swings the night away with Leva. everyone on the dance floor has a ball, but mom who is not happy ends up going inside to say her prayers. lol

    • Hmmmm ... good try - but no cigar. First of all the name of the girl is Ieva (with a CAPITAL I). The name of the song Ievan Polkka translates as Eva's Polka in English. Second - the people are dancing in the neighboring house - Eva's mother forbids Eva to join - but Eva tricks the mother slips away anyways (so Eva is quite active 'operator' in the story). The guy and Eva then meet at the place and ...

  • My wife would love to dance just like the woman in the video and while I tried to shuffle along next to her,I would mostly just be entranced! Over the next 40+ years we both lost our mobility, she to a stroke and I had my back smashed by a dozy driver in a rear end shunt. I can watch this now and often do and it brings back such wonderful memories of youth and beauty and joy and reminds me that when we had the world at our feet we danced and laughed and lived. If I could go back to me then, I would tell myself to carry on squeezing as much joy out of life as my strong young arms could and to cherish it in my heart as it will warm that same heart in later colder times. Thank you for the memories this brings me!

This is the best version of this song I've heard, so far. Göregen's vocals are astounding, and The Kiffness' horns and strings take Göregen's solo cover to a whole new level. Love it!
