Mark Rober is a NASA engineer-turned-KZhead juggernaut whose videos range from building the world's largest Super Soaker, to the annual porch-pirate glitter-bomb holiday extravaganza. He also has a new project on the way called Mark Rober's Revengineers, a hidden-camera, science-focused prank show coming soon to Discovery Channel. But how is he with spicy food? Find out as Rober takes on the wings of death and throws the kitchen sink of antidotes at them, attempting-unsuccessfully-to use science to escape the heat.

    • As someone who worked for NASA in the early naughts (not JPL instead Ames Research) I'm going to disagree with the top1% of 1%. Like any corporation there is a lot of bureaucracy there, there's some level of mediocrity there, and yeah there are a lot of smart individuals who know a lot about a particular subject (astronomy, or physics, or engineer, or computer programming, or some combinations of those) but it really is no different someone who knows a lot about some other subject say history or literature it's just not as "flashy" to brag about (mom loved telling her friends her son was a rocket scientist... even though I didn't actually work with rockets at all). And unless you're one of said bureaucratic heads of a department pay is not really anything to write home about either, above a teacher's salary sure but not that much above, it's by no means any Google/Apple type of pay salary (and I use those as examples because Ames Research is near by). Don't get me wrong, I'm not in any way upset or angry about NASA, but I know I'm not the top 1% much less top 1% of 1%, and I am humble enough to know there are people who know so much more than me it's not fun, some of them are at NASA, some of them work at universities, and that's just in the topics I know about. I'm not denying Rober is a super smart guy mind you, he's definitely got an engineer's mindset, I'm just saying just because you work there doesn't mean you are by default smart, it's not like a think tank where they only hire the smartest and brightest minds... I mean I got hired for crying out loud :)

It's the gyroscopic effect that makes it stable, and the weight of the ring has a high inertia, so it keeps rotating very easily. Yes, the air is 'tripped' by the edge of ring, but it has a very fine edge and does not rely on the Coanda effect at all.

    • He's a great guy, but I wouldn't go as far as to call him "brilliant". The man has made some weird choices and takes plenty of time (1-4 years) to create some (what others might consider) simple stuff. Nonetheless he's very approachable/likeable and get's people interested in science. So I don't want to bring him down or anything. I would just reserve the word "brilliant" for a select few.
