I used to frame houses and apartments in the mid to late 1980s with hammer and nails. The carpentry technology has come a long way since I was in my 20s. Thank you for sharing!
Good to have you back - keep 'em coming
Love the old school nineties jams playing in the background
Learning a lot. Quality. And speed all in one.
Shop merch here: www.mattbangswood.com/ In 2019 someone bought the URL www.MattBangsWood.com/ out from under me. In 2022 it lapsed.. Someone else snagged it. Tried to sell it to me for thousands of dollars. A few months ago I gave it a shot and was going to buy it from the seller, only to see they let it lapse. I've got it locked down now, it's never going anywhere.
Nice 🤙
Good tip about pulling everything from one corner. Looks like a fun project. Looking forward to it! 🔨👍
Great to see another project.
Been enjoying your channel and vids for years and years Matt!! Thank you again for all the hard extra work publishing them!
just wanted to say i love your videos! I'm a second year apprentice carpenter and how you explain everything in detail is awesome as well as really easy to digest the information. Keep it up with the awesome videos!
Finally You guys are back
Let's go big MATT! 👏👏👏👏👏
Always enjoy your channel , hope you get Fox back soon 🎉
Glad I came across your channel 😊🎉
Looking good rock on 🤘
love your videos, thanks for doing what you do.
You can see how we lifted a wall with just two people (and I am not as strong as my husband) on our channel-cool little trick! 😊
Some mighty big walls in this house.
@Matt, bout time you put some stix 2gether. 😜✌️
Matt; is Fox still with you?
If you would, please comment on Advanced Framing and do you use it on any of your jobs or is it code specific on where it can be used. Thanks for the great video.
Where is foxy? I love that guy his a hard worker
Same here I’m looking for him too 🤔
Ditto. His absence is noticed.
He's ****
What are your thoughts on California corners. Don't worry about it or just do it? Appreciate any advice
how are you liking the badger belt matt?
Wow! If only we had more people to help us lift a wall….it was just me and my husband 😮😂
so dope those BTC socks are big pippin
Glad someone appreciates them. Have to hold through the dark times to find the light. Crypto is back! 🤣
What is the purpose of the pins on the floor? Is that there for them to easily place the walls, or does this add some support? Is this standard practice?
I always wondered how they got a big heavy framed wall up and over the tall concrete J- bolts. It looks like you have spacers (16:00) on the side of the bottom plate to get it up high enough to have the plate rotate over the bolts. I also wondered how they know exactly where to pre-drill the bottom plate so the holes match up perfectly, it seems there is not much room for error.
People trip out on why I don't shear on the ground. It's tough enough getting the walls up and over the embeds and penatrations.
No kidding you would need a crane or pay for a bigger crew.@@MattBangsWood
Sheering on the ground is easy if you have a Lull or crane to lift your walls into place, but for small and tight jobs where it’s just a few carpenters on site, you sheet after they’re vertical. As for how to know where the holes need to be drilled, I know of two ways. The first is to lay your bottom plate next to the location, mark where the bolts are laterally, then measure up to mark the location in the other direction. The second is to figure out where the plate is supposed to be, lay it across the bolts and hit the board with a hammer hard enough to make a dimple. I’ve seen both used, depends on the framer I guess.
Yo Matt. What brand of shirts / hoodies do you use for your company uniforms?
I’m currently taking classes for residential construction. Can someone give me advice on what type of work I can do to get on the job training while in school?
At 11:00, what is happening here with the doubled-up 2x6 horizontal bracing in a row (as opposed to the staggered single 2x6 bracing lower in the wall)? Is it because of the wall height?
Doubled up 2x6 is for our shear break. I have to have edge nailing for sheathing and it has to be minimum 3x.
Not going to lie. I miss the pov go-pro footage like you used to do. Still great videos but a lot different from where you started
I personally miss it as well, the videos you're going to be seeing over the next few weeks are more of this style.. but I GoPro'd a lot of the building of the roof, upstairs, and other projects. Not straying far from where I came from, it'll make a comeback!
You’re doing great Matt. I’m a builder in Tennessee and you guys to do so much extra stuff then we do here
👍👍
PNW framer here - we always hold our headers up to the top plate and fill below, any reason you guys don't do that?
Makes for a pretty bad cold spot .
I live in the pnw myself, I have a feeling it’s a climate thing, we build things a certain way for our particular climate, and if I’m not mistaken they are based in cali where it’s a different kind
@@Robmich I've seen guys on the East Coast, New England mainly, locating headers down at the window also. Some say it's just old school and it's a similar climate to here, so....just curious.
@@jamaalrose6354 The header is there whether you hold it up to the top plate or down to the top of the window so that seems irrelevant.
Ya
Do you have a follow up channel called matt bangs his wood ? Hahaha
Where’s fox??
Where is fox!!!
Fox has been with another builder in town since I ripped my stomach open. I took a good portion of Q1 and Q2 off this year to heal from a torn abdomen. He went to work for someone who could keep him busy through the year. Happy for him.
Dude, how did you tear your stomach open?@@MattBangsWood
👌👌👌💯💯💯👍👍👍❤❤❤💪💪💪⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
First ! :)
New crew? No Fox.
Not new, cousin was with me 8 or 9 years ago up until a few years back. He took a break and came back. Alex was with us when Fox was around too.
Hello I am a Carpenter from Kenya i can volunteer
