In this KZhead Video, I teach you the best way to introduce yourself to a puppy!
It is important from Day One to establish rules, boundaries, and limitations with your dog.
Remember a dog learns nose, eyes, and ears not ears, eyes, and nose.

  • I have been around dogs all my life (I am now 70 years of age) Working dogs, family dogs.. I even raised Dobermans for many years. This is how I always treated dogs.. I thought that it was just natural instinct for people to do this calm nurture to produce respect trust in a dog.. But watching your videos has shown me that is not always so.. I have learned so much more watching you.. I still have a dog.. though this maybe my last one she will probably out live me.. But still.. I love the dog and find your videos extremely interesting and wish I had seen these fifty+ years ago.. Carry on son.. you are doing the dog and dog people a great service..

    • Yes he is ! He is a Angel for the dogs ( and humans) . Thanks for sharing , I sort of felt the same, that it is common sense and natural and it is , but yea much more technical when you learn the in's and outs from Cesar . I'm 63 and have had dogs my whole life and babysat other people's dogs and worked in a kennel just so I could learn it and use Caesar's methods to see if they worked on all the dogs and they did even in that very unhealthy insane situation much harder but it works . 👍

    • Ive always felt this way as well. Though, my father, he would show his ‘dominance’ in the most wrong and terrible ways in my opinion. Picking dogs up by their necks and screaming in their faces.. always made me cry. Im just 23 but ive always felt most at home with dogs not humans. Humans are complicated puzzles and i dont like those. Dogs are so simple and easy to understand. Dogs are my life. I havent had 1 for three years unfortunately and ive cried every day for over a year because i dont have one. Couldnt afford one, just moving out of my childhood home. Ive been living with my partner for 1.5 years now and will get my very first dog of my own, not family dog, ever. I will train it to be my service dog and nothing gives me more motivation and hope for my future than that.

    • Like all of your other videos, this was great. I've always loved how you emphasize the importance of paying attention to one's energy. I've read all of your books and studied your work for years and because of you, I've become much more cognizant of how I am with my dogs. (All of my dogs have been guide dogs, and at guide dog school, they never talk about the importance of energy.) If it hadn't been for you, I wouldn't have successfully trained my third dog. Or I would have but I don't think I would have been as aware.

  • Hey Cesar! The nose thing is legit. I've been doing deliveries for awhile now and I try to use what I've seen here when I come across dogs. Today I was doing a drop off and the guy was outside with his dog. I could tell the guy was anxious about his dog getting excited. It was barking and pulling. I just walked straight up calm and confident, the dog sniffed me and immediately calmed down. Think i blew the guy's mind. Really hope I can get into a living situation where I can have a dog myself. Theres something deeply beautiful to your approach with these awesome creatures.

    @fouronetwo813@fouronetwo813 Жыл бұрын
    • That's awesome. Yeah, it makes all the difference when the dog is allowed to sniff the human. When I do allow people to interact with my dog, I insist that the human demonstrate calmness and allow my dog to approach them; if the person gets excited or invades my dog's space before, the interaction stops. For me, it's harder to train humans than dogs!

    • Ah yes. That kind of excited greeting is the main reason I don't allow people to interact with my guide dog. It's not because he's working and can't be distracted--well, that's true when he's actively guiding (i.e. navigating me around obstacles or through traffic)--it's because people a: aren't calm and B: barge up to him and are like: "Hiiiii doggie! OMG I wanna pet the cute doggy or I'm just gonna die! ... Aren't you sooo pwecious huh? You're taking care of your mommy!" Gag gag gag gag.

I have done it with my own dogs (Because I know them and have relationships with them), but not with other peoples dogs, in particular strangers. And yes, I am well aware that people don't know how to greet dogs. This is in particular because of how dogs are portrayed as cutesy little furry humans. But I personally cannot relate to that obnoxious excited barging up to the dog type of greeting.

  • I grew up watching “El Encantador de Perros” back in my home country, Venezuela (it was dubbed in Spanish), and I was always amazed of how César would _magically_ achieve such a good bonding and relationship with dogs. Now, as an adult, I finally understand the part about how dogs feed off of our energy. Many people (me included) go to dogs to soothe themselves emotionally, but the truth is as new owners, we need to be balanced and mindful of ourselves before we start that relationship. That way, we can provide the leadership they need, and in return, they can give us their company in a secure way. We still have to do the work on ourselves, first. Gracias, César. You teach us to be better humans.

  • Hi Cesar, I’m a big fan of yours for years ❤ Thank you for teaching me so many things (dog training and way beyond). I feel training dogs make me more aware of my own energy and mental state. I have two dogs, one I raised her from a puppy - she is a happy-go-lucky goofball 😂. My other dog is a semi-rescue and had extreme fears. He was literally petrified about everything when I first got him. He made big progress and now almost perfect with meeting new dogs, but he is still not okay with meeting strangers no matter how much I try desensitizing him. I wonder if it has to do with his genetics (he is healthy otherwise, checked by vet) and breed - shiba inu. I wish I can go to your DPC but I’m in Canada 😢. I hope to see your training fearful shibas someday if possible. Thank you again and much love to you ❤

I laughed awkwardly when someone told me "does your dog pet you back? it's not affection" but it's so true. your dog is owning you by demanding your pets. petting is only a reward. Ever, iver since I stopped my 14/7 petting, my dog will not jump up on people, since he does not expect to be rewarded for it. And the fact my dog is so much happier now that I'm petting him LESS?! I never thought. I feel so bad that I thought petting meant affection for my dog all the time. I never realized how insecure it made him. it's crazy

  • Hello, thanks for your wonderful video. I’m just about to take on a six month old puppy who was dropped from a two meter wall into a dog shelter one night, the volunteers arrived in the morning to find him in the pound. Luckily this pup isn’t injured. Anyway, nobody knows where he has come from or what if any kind of training has he received. I’m looking for some advice, I’ve stubbled across your videos, I feel that I will learn a lot from you. I’ve had cats all my life and only two dogs in the past, I’ve always understood that the owners are responsible for the animals behavior, so, I’m hoping that this dear pup will soon be feeling very confident and happy with me. ❤
