The Master demonstrates how to split the apple with perfect control, but the student's ego/Self gets in the way and prevents him from being humble enough to admit he doesn't know as much as the Master and learn from Him.
The student then tries to instruct the Master - "the important thing is eating the fruit, not how you get to it."
