"Don't groan, pass legislation." Savage.
@@Knuckles-2024 How so?
Yea I thought this was disgusting. You want us to take school safety seriously so you make a joke about it in and equivocate it with drag queens? I don't think the parents of these dead kids would find it funny.
@@ChocoQueen24 If he can articulate a single actual reason, I'll eat my hat.
His version of, "Don't boo......vote." He knew what he was doing.
Gross joke, he blew that one
“Don’t groan, pass legislation.” That line hit harder than most will ever know.
Unlike most of these from the past, RWJ's will be making people think and talk for years to come.
Yep. Hit haard
Facts!
Sad part is that they will say how twisted he and Biden are for “joking” about school shootings
@@MartyMarr21Hey, its true. But needed. Apparently seeing kids die isn’t making enough of an emotional impact to elicit a legislative response.
Remember those 4 years when POTUS was too chicken to attend this event? Freedom of speech!
"Don't Groan! Pass legislation!" Great recovery line and he set that one up perfectly too! 🤣
Agree
Lol it’s not even a recovery line. It’s the joke. He showed them they’re the joke.
@@mandeanraje2300 Exactly. The audacity of anyone in that audience - or anywhere in the US - to groan. This is our reality, and they acted like he was out of line pointing it out.
That wasn't recovery lol that was the upper cut
Or they could just address the real problem. Mental health. Oh no because most of them are the same. In need of better mental health.

Yeah, because criminals care about legislation.....
Equivocating kids being murdered with the acceptance of drag queens is wild. Y'all need Jesus.
"Don't groan, pass legislation." Hell yeah Roy you the man! Tell those politicians. Thank you

Best line of the night, IMO.

my thoughts exactly.
Just don't look at the actual murder rates. *CERTAINLY* don't look at the actual murder rates.
THIS is how you headline a WHCD. Roy absolutely killed it. He expertly intermingled painful truths with joviality. His comedic timing is as professional as it gets. Roy deserves The Daily Show, and we need him as the host.
Hard to disagree after witnessing that writing and performance. It seems Roy was seeded in fertile soil indeed. Bravo to him and his parents.
He is so woke I'm pretty sure he tucks his dick and balls between his legs😂😂
Obviously both of you are small brained idiots, joking about kids getting killed is obviously just a left wing thing since y'all love killing babies.
Ass kiss much?
No one else could have said it better
Roy Wood didn’t just go after low hanging fruit as jokes but actually highlighted the institutional decay that exists. He’s always humorous but what sets him apart is how he tries to excavate truth while entertaining us. Bravo!
Your just relieved and over the moon. There was no Kanye...jokes.
Low hanging fruit? You mean bananas 🍌?
please just give him the Daily Show already. Roy has a disarming gentleness about his delivery that allows him to land his points incredibly effectively. The perfect extension of the Jon Stewart tradition.
This
YUP! w/in 1 or 2 episodes of him hosting, I tweeted they should just give it to him.
If that performance and his resume do not seal the deal, the Daily Show is not looking for a host. They are looking for a winner of a pageant!
He has one really funny bit with Kepler where he is tackling issues on systemic racism by telling Kepler to stop being a baby for being upset about the racism, it is just the perfect disarming set up to land points on the issue. Pointing out the obvious issues by pretending it’s not a big deal.
But, isn't it time we had a woman to head The Daily Show! Hello, I mean we make up 51% of our population?!
"Don't boo me, pass legislation." Beautiful
Obama said first. "Don't boo me, vote"
Just like Pres. O, don't boo, vote!
“Don’t groan. Pass legislation.” Is a 10/10 crowd work line.
The way he tied an earlier quip about NFTs to his roast of Clarence Thomas was absolutely brilliant!
Some of the smartest comedy I've heard in a long time.
Sheer genius. It is clear that he very carefully crafted the jokes, and it takes a comedic pro to be able to tie things together like that.

Reminded me of Obama's "don't boo, vote"
that was truly brilliant -- remember Obama telling the crowd don't boo: vote? Roy found the flip on that and told it to them upstream. He must have known they would groan and that's how good Roy is.
The school shooting joke was designed to elicit that reaction to which he responded "Don't groan--pass legislation!" GENIUS
For sure!
So telling that they groaned.
RWJ is a brilliant comedian.
Pass legislation to ban drag queens from school? I agree! fucking perverted sickos

The Daily Show are idiots for not selecting him as Trevor's replacement!
Idiots. They’ll feel it.
An interesting fact about Roy is that he actually has a journalism degree. That's why his satire of the industry was so sharp.
That was far from sharp or insightful. You must have a poor sense of humor.
In our 21st Century, 80's is the new 60's!
Aw, he followed his dad's footsteps ❤️
@@irisbjones I knew his dad was a respected journalist from an earlier interview; however, I didn't know Roy Jr's own education and experience as a journalist unti last night.

This is the best Correspondence Dinner I've ever seen. Roy Wood Jr. is spectacular. 😅
Roy doing the correspondents dinner the year after Trevor did it is further proof that he deserves to follow in Trevor's footsteps and be the next permanent host of the daily show.
Agree
@@candipill pity he just announced he's leaving the show
“Don’t groan, pass legislation…” I LOVED that!
I always love when the WHCD cringes over a joke. They don’t cringe because it’s bad, they cringe because it exposes the truth.
100% truth.
And yet they knew it would be cringe but invited him anyway.
My thoughts exactly
I know right? The crowd looks so awkward and so many have their fake outraged faces on. What a bunch of phonies.
The truth that the journalists are fake and the comedian is a shill.
Holy shit the part about journalism being behind a paywall is so on point. Roy is an American treasure we must protect and cherish him at all costs.
“We can all see Clarence Thomas but he belongs to Harlan Crow…. And THAT’S what an NFT is” 🤣. Great setup and a great punchline. Hilarious.
Harlan Crow owning half of the inventory was a truly savage joke! 🤣🤣🤣
How many know about the other?
Asking Harlan Crow to buy his Mama a house. LOl.
That was beautifull!
"You all can see Clarence Thomas, but he belongs to Harlan Crow. And *that's* what an NFT is." This is the best joke. The setup and payoff are perfect. But most of all, it is a factually correct analogy of how NFT's work. I can't believe he pulled it off.
So, pray tell, explain how Clarence Thomas is what an NFT is. And how was Bill Clinton, who was flown and feasted by Epstein more than Thomas by Crow not a classic NFT? Or do you make the definitions as you go along? BTW I have another interpretation of Wood's association, something a hater like you overlooks.
That was my favorite as well. 😂
Roy's nod to his mother and father there at the end, show just how much class this man has. Hope he gets the chair at the Daily Show.
Honestly it would be nicer to have an American with the background in that spot than a South African guy who didn't exactly come out of Alabama like Wood did. Wood has a lot more to say and isn't just relying on being witty and sharp (although he is that, too), but has a sort of fundamental direct knowledge about how this place has always run and what's hiding behind the curtain. I might even watch the show if he was hosting it.
His jokes are also classy, nobody can drop it like Roy wood jr about hard topics, mostly political jokes. Takes high iq and class. He’s a great comedian, one of the best right now I’d say,
This man deserves an even bigger chair.
@@KenKnightPhD you missed a lot if you didn't watch Trevor. He was brilliant and the show was brilliant. Trevor has a talent for insight that many of the best comics have that makes him perfect for reporting on the news. That said, Roy Wood Jr would be even better, no argument there at all.
@@JamesFaction I haven't had cable for quite some time and wasn't really watching it with Jon Stewart, either. But what I've seen of Trevor was really funny and clever, you're right.
Roy Wood Jr. is a hugely underrated comedian. So smart. Edgy. Incredible. I never knew. So now I gotta watch TDS. Damn.
Roy Woods Jr. used Clarence Thomas and Harlan Crow to give a simple and effective definition of the term NFT. The audience was shocked and amazed when he shamed our government's inaction on SCOTUS corruption by saying what everyone has been thinking. The joke was painfully perfect. Much respect and love to you Mr. Woods. Please never lose that sharp edge.
Sharper yet were his allusions to the conspiracy of silence and hypocrisy about Biden's ongoing siesta on the job, Hunter's laptop, brief spurts of waking up in time to sign still another throw-away-of-money spending bill, and of their inability to be consistent in criticizing Biden for the things they attacked Trump on. You could hear their hemorrhoids grinding on the seats at a good many jokes which Woods made, especially about journalists getting fired while their billionaire oligarchic patrons keep keeping money for themselves. It's a shame Woods didn't note that so many journalists are NFTs these days talking about and being mum as directed by their puppeteers.
Yeah he just didn't touch the horrible inflation, debt, Afghanistan withdrawal, the White House's unwillingness to take questions from anyone who isn't totally friendly to them, Biden's lack of access and transparency, his horrible approval ratings, age, his VP calling him racist, his VP having record low approval numbers, etc, etc.

Unlike most of the jokes ever told in this venue, people will be thinking and talking about Roy's for years to come.
@@victoriabaker4400 I doubt that. Stewart was much more introspective than this, same with Trevor Noah, Michelle Wolf and Larry Wilmore. Can you remember what they said? I do, once I'm thinking about it, but it's not something I talk about with people.
why isnt he hosting the Daily Show?
@@ricodelavega4511 The show decided to have a period of rotating hosts after Trevor left, and I think that was a good decision. Roy has a huge fan club for the permanent position, and I'm certain he is among the finalists they are considering.
Colbert was the GOAT. Now he just seems embalmed
I saw a lot of uncomfortable looking faces in that audience, amid the laughter. You did your job, Roy. Roy's father can be proud. Nice that he credited both his parents and worked their experiences into his narrative rather than making them a separate event or afterthought.

Actually, they weren't sure if they should fake laugh or not, until they all got a text from their boss about their future employment
@@KobyOwen Yeah, he was struggling hard. A lot of dead punchlines.
To see a man honor his mother like this was amazing.
Remember Biden puts Transgender women above real women, and has signed it into law, that they are above real women.
I love his humor. I hope to see more of this intelligent man
"Democracy Dies In Darkness" behind a paywall! Thanks, Jeff.
Everyone else did the buzz words! Even Conan. Roy did the real work here. Shedding light on those forgotten and even the point of this event. Bravo Roy!!!
Absolutely! Roy's is the best one of these I've ever seen, and I've watched many.
If you only watch this part of the WHCD then you're missing 70% of the context and emotion Roy's words could have. Tamera Keith's introduction to the state of the media landscape and importance of the WHCD was great, President Biden's speech and jokes were powerful and great, and then this. Context matters. Would recommend you check it out.
This was AMAZING
There were plenty of comedians that brought serious subjects to the WHCD. Jon Stewart, Trevor Noah, Michelle Wolf and Larry Wilmore.
Hasan was the last before they stopped during Trump years and he also killed it.
Roy has gone from doing his famous hilarious prank calls skits to a distinguished host and damn good comedian. 👊🏾
Dancing clown. Embarrassing and shameful.
while what I thought I wanted became why I graitatied upon your YT post - you can't fix stupid! hit from all the angles Oh I'm fells like money for LIES - I'm out out heststating Somehow you mad me feel less sad about cutting off my parents. they watch Foxx NEws---sooo _ it's so impossible yet annoying - YEQH - I have a telet CALLING OUT BS - not gonna be indoctrinated into the Mutant Hogwarts. but still
Terrorist troops of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in radiocyon and chemical protection suits were seen near Bakhmut. Curators from the UK are preparing a provocation with nuclear and chemical weapons after the withdrawal of the main military units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. They also intend to substitute representatives from the United States so that all the evidence testifies that the US special services are behind the terrorist attack.!
💯 💯 exactly what I was thinking
He's that guy... Just happy I got to watch.
That man is a National treasure. Honest, hilarious, smart, and speaks the Truth with an intent to shed light on the realities of the moment. Thank you for inviting him to speak. He is a true role model for authentic journalism. 😂🌎
I have always watched and loved this glamorous event.. My granddaughter asked me why I laugh so much, my reply… because truth is hysterical when we flip it over … So she at ten years old, and I at over 60, decided MALA is our new theme.. Make America Laugh Again!
“I’m like Mitch McConnell, I ain’t got no soul.” 😂😂😂😂
I live how he humanized himself and assured all that didn't know who he was or his parents legacy
I think he was perfect because he wasn't hugely known, so people were probably less offended by his jokes. Plus he looks like your nicest uncle in the family who means no harm at all.
This is why I hope Roy gets the permanent hosting chair on The Daily Show! He says he is only a comedian, but that's not true. Originally he was a journalist and that's what his degree was in, so his appreciation here is real beyond his admiration for his father. Wonderful how he put his mother on camera and gave both of his parents the credit that they clearly deserve.
He’s definitely a front runner. Tough choice, they have such a ridiculously talented group of comedians.
I love him, I would love even more to see Larry Williams at that desk. Maybe it’s too late, or it’s not the right time, but his Nightly Show brilliant.
I don't like him on the Daily Show, but I DO enjoy his stand-up routines and I thought he was TERRIFIC in the last "Fletch" movie. Too bad I was the only person to watch the whole movie.
I want him to share with Jordan and maybe even Dulce and Desi and Ronny, too. I like Roy but I also like these other comedians. I want 'em all!
There are no journalists anymore. They're called left wing political activists now.
