Brazilian fighter Fernando Rodriguez gained immense popularity among domestic fans of mixed martial arts after two fights against Gadzhi Avtomat. First, their fight went to a split decision, where the KSW veteran won a somewhat sensational victory, and then in a rematch in early 2023, when Gadzhi Navruzov suffered a big setback and broke his arm in a completely unexpected situation.
However, the veteran of the Polish KSW tournaments even before his triumph in POP-MMA came to our country to participate in mixed martial arts tournaments. In 2019, he took part in the S-70 international tournament in Sochi.
His opponent was the debutant of mixed martial arts. But at the same time, a very cool stricker, vice-champion of Europe in Thai boxing Kirill Kornilov. Now he has an excellent record and successfully destroys the top Russian heavyweights. And four years ago, for the first time, he entered the ring according to new rules for himself against an experienced mixed martial arts fighter who had almost two dozen fights behind him.

  • If you don't get intimidated skill will always be the determining factor. The Russian fighter was calm, calculated & accurate. The Brazilian was pushing forward with muscle & little else. No real footwork & no pacing. No jabs of consequence (just pawing) & no combinations. The Russian is always out of range & moving. I'm sure Fernando could hit hard but he was having difficulty finding the Russian. Notice how none of these fighters have the stamina & endurance of Rocky Marciano, Mike Tyson, or Joe Frazier. Few bore in like a tank with both fists flying fast & hard. Not even the Brazilian. Lots of wild throws & lunging by the Brazilian while telegraphing most of his punches. I guess no one ever taught him how to throw a punch from the shoulder or maybe he didn't want to get that close. The Brazilian gets KO'd with the 2nd of two punches both exactly the same. I guess he didn't learn much about defense. No one told the Brazilian that muscles don't win fights because you have no muscles in your head. If the head goes -- it's over. One other thing I noticed, why is the Russian champ who only fought one round here supposed to be a "conditioned" fighter breathing through his mouth so early? Big boxing buffs make fun of Rocky Marciano as being small & couldn't last with today's better-conditioned heavyweights. Really? Then why did Marciano & Frazier sometimes go 15 rounds when they fought & did not breathe through their mouths? Who's the better-conditioned fighter? Look up how Rocky trained & you'll understand it isn't conditioning as much as endurance. None of today's fighters train that way. Few can make it to a full 12 rounds without clinching & holding. In extreme fighting (MMA/UFC) most depend on their kicks to win -- because I guess they don't have confidence in their fists. Some do...not all.
