  • Agreed about Lansbury playing more deep lying, I think we need to try Hourihane more advanced. His assist tally last season... we can't ignore that.

    • Completely agree with Tidge, like to see Hourihane in the 10 role and play Lansbury next to Whelan. Saying that I honestly didn't think Bacuna played that bad and the jeering was a real disappointment. Gabby played well on the wing but I don't recall him playing that position during pre-season which suggests Bruce is still struggling to pick his best 11.

  • I understand at times we will need to play deep and hold on for a win, but I think we need to stay with an attacking mindset until we get 2 goals, or at least wait until the final 10 minutes minutes of the match.

  • I think the ironic cheer was more towards Steve Bruce for taking so long to sub off someone playing not so well and to give Josh or Connor a run out to have an impact on the game. Just my personal opinion on that (wasn't one involved in the cheer) but you hit everything else absolutely on the nail. Great Vid Dan.

  • Great video again guys!! Agreed with point on Bacuna getting cheered off... Will only be detrimental to the team... + the constant moaning when someone misplaces a pass. We need to be behind the team if we want to succeed. UTV

  • First half was almost perfect, another goal or two and it would have been. Second half you are exactly right, everyone could see it coming. Can't for the life of me understand how Bacuna played ahead of Green and why on earth Hogan was taken off. I've seen people on twitter saying Hogan was crap.......well they are obviously not watching! Hogan's running and movement was superb, we just don't play to his strengths! It's only the first game we all know that but the worrying sign that we still can't play two halves is of concern. This is where the likes of Terry and Whelan need to assert their experience and encourage the younger ones to keep going. Unless of course the manager tells them otherwise!!!! I was encouraged by the first half so let's see where it goes from here. Great video Dan but lose the backward baseball cap! UTV

  • Another great video fellers. Well done. Full credit for trying to put a positive spin on things too, Dan, but... "On another day we might have had 3 or 4..." How many times did you or Matt say that last season ? Quite a few, I'd be prepared to bet. First game of last season we lost 1-0 in Sheffield after turning in a decent performance. Why? Because we couldn't score. Derby away last season: we totally dominated the game but we couldn't score. "On another day, we might have had 5 or 6." We even did our best to throw it away completely. Luckily, in the end, it finished 0-0. I could go on and on. Our best performance of the season (IMHO) was Brighton away. Again, we couldn't score and again, "on another day...". We even managed to do what was becoming our favourite trick of snatching a draw from the jaws of victory (after our sequence of throwing games away in the 90th and 91st minutes that is.) Oh, and our only goal at Brighton came from none other than our recently discarded friend, Nathan Baker. We bossed that game from start to finish - yet they got promoted and we didn't. If you took away the date above and any reference to Hull City then I'd have bet my house on this video being one of any number of last season's output. That's how little has changed in how we are playing and how the fans are moaning. Even the press have remarked on "the level of dissatisfaction among the home supporters." Bruce moaned last season that he hadn't had a pre-season with the team. Well he has now, and it's no different. The team are still clueless. We look extremely vulnerable at the back - in the air - from corners and free kicks, unlike most of last season (oh, that's something that's changed then.) And why in God's name was Hourihane left picking his nose on the bench while a stand in right back (and not a very good one at that) filled his position? Why was the only decent fit striker we've got at the Club subbed while a knackered Agbonlohor stayed on to do nothing? The ultimate insult was to bring on a 12 foot tall centre half who hasn't played competitively for about 2 years and use him as a striker when Gabby finally keeled over completely. No wonder Hogan's pissed off! He's class and he's made to sit there and witness that level of bullshit! Steve Bruce had every Villa fan in the country and beyond behind him all last week. High hopes, belief that finally we'd turned the corner and a real belief that it would all be different now. And for 45 minutes on Saturday it was half convincing. Then the wheels fell off because Hull decided to turn up for the second half. Bruce shat himself. He didn't know what to do. How dare they come here and play football... Steve Bruce is like my budgie. All chatter and shit!!! The Villa job is too big for him and he proved it spectacularly live on TV on Saturday evening. Yes, I'll support the Villa to my dying day and I'll stand/sit on the Holte End and shout as loud as any of the rest of you. But I won't give Bruce any vote of confidence any time soon. He's lost the plot and he'll very quickly lose the fans and his job if he serves up another day like that one. UTV VTID

  • In all fairness, bacuna has been poor for us since he's been here. Other than his goal against spurs, I can't recall a game where he's stood out? And his comments about 'he should be playing champions league' was the cherry on top for me. So maybe it wasn't right the ironic cheers, but I can understand why. Anyway, fingers crossed for this season and utv

  • Been taking my time thinking of my views and sleeping on them. The first half in my opinion was quite possibly the best i've seen us play under bruce, right up until the 40th minute, at which point, the squad went into turtle mode and hide in its shell, until the 80th minute when we'd conceded and realised what we had done. Same story different day. Looked lively in the final third in the first 40 minutes, but need to bury chances. Hogan to me is different gravy, so technically smart, making runs that in my opinion the only person that has the vision to find them was on the subs bench in Conor Hourihane. Need to become more positive, we have class acts in the final third so when we're 1-0 up why on earth don't we go for the jugular? Bury teams 3-0, 4-0? We have the ability to do so. Rely on the defence to hold solid when countered on, because it's strong enough to do so. Need to get of the players backs, doesn't help in anyway shape or form. We are the 12th man, they always hear us, so boost them with positivity. Need to find our DNA and system asap, kill teams off by attacking them, and hold together as a team, UTV.

  • Not sure what Hourihane has to do to get a game, he should be the one right behind the striker, we know what he can do and I believe that the only way we can score more goals, which is alot of the fans main issue, is with him in the squad.

    @jamesmottershead6150@jamesmottershead61506 жыл бұрын
  • What disturbs me is the total lack of strategic thinking at the club. Top managers know how they want to play and then recruit to that. Serious questions need asking of Round and Bruce for recruiting the likes of Hogan and Hourihane etc and then nullifying them by not playing to their strengths. It looks like these players became available and we acted without considering the team set up which is foolish at best. Now Bruce is needing Kodjia back, a player he inherited to make his own system work.

  • Great summary Dan. I agree with your comment about the fans and 99% are bloody outstanding - best away fans bar none. I can however understand the animosity toward Bacuna in some regards. He showed total disrespect for the club under lambert and on footballing terms offers very little in my opinion. That said, booing is rubbish and not the Villa way.

  • Like everyone disappointed with the result created enough chances to win easily, agree that Bacuna didn't have a good game and would have liked to have seen Onomah or hourrihane brought in to replace and slot Lansbury back to his familiar position. Not much Bruce can do when we create so much but can't stick it away. Impressed with Hogan seems really intelligent and makes very good runs in behind also works hard. Love that Elmo gets crosses in early and from every angle. If we can put in a full performance like we did in first half I've no concerns we'll be right up there, first game is always a tricky especially against a decent Hull side, looking at the other results Boro, Sheff Wed and Reading all losing puts it in a bit of perspective. Agree with Dan that we as fans shouldn't be getting on the players backs especially so early, we need to give them the support to get their confidence up.

    • "With a bit more luck..." and "On another day..." don't cut it anymore. Any top Coach or Manager will tell you that winning teams make their own luck. Aston Villa FC is the scalp every team in this league wants on their shelf. There'll be no free gifts in front of goal (except maybe for the one that Gabby scored on Saturday.) It's time to ditch the excuses and produce the goods. Anyone not good enough or brave enough should get out now!!! UTV VTID

Very concerned that it's all the same old problems( can't kill a game off and struggle second half). Don't want another season of "ohh don't worry performances are OK results will come soon" and before you know it, it's too late ! Hopeful it won't be and still feel promotion is very achievable

    • Agree with Dan on the fans reaction...Bacuna was tosh except pinging a beautiful crossfield ball 50 yards in the first half, but I would never boo or ironically cheer a villa player, looks as if he now wants out of the club as he obviously cannot take the heat from the boo boys

  • I agree that the reaction to Bacuna was perhaps unwarranted, but it isn't just about one game mate. It's about the fact that season after season he is poor; and he clearly doesn't care about the Villa. The guy thinks he's a champions league player!? It's that disrespect towards the club, his blatent lack of interest in Villa doing well.. That's why he got the reaction he got. UTV.

    • I don't agree that he was poor last season, inconsistent yes and played in an unnatural position (midfield yes) the whole champions league thing was taken out of context, yes it was a ridiculous statement to make because we had just been relegated but if you actually read what he said it wasn't that he's an amazing player: “Ajax or PSV? I think so. If you look at those clubs, they play Champions League football almost every year. If you do you get a chance, why not?” I don't understand why we can forgive Gabby but Bakuna is the devil
