Hey guys today I am showing you a very easy and efficient way to remove Rust on your car even extreme cases with holes. This requires no welding and can be done with cheap materials you can get anywhere .
Rust repair is common at the wheel wells and rocker panels of cars and in this video I show the best way to remove and repair rust even big holes.

I'm a professional Auto Body technician and refinisher and I can say with experience if that's your first time you did a great job
Hi, is the aluminum cans good idea? I love it, but not sure how long will it last ?
You must work at a Maaco, I’m also a body tech and this made me cry
@@Jas111ld this fix will not last this is more of a temporary fix that will have to be redone in a couple years.
When did Walmart get in the auto body repair business?
He should have taped off the wheel, he got paint all over it
This is the true spirit of DIY. Is it perfect? No. Was it fun? Yes. Did you learn something new? Yes. A lot of us drive cars that is worth fixing up, but not worth the money to have a professional fix up. This is just the reality of life for most people.
3 years later still holding strong
@@DylanKowalski123I have a similar job to do on my ‘new’ car I purchased the other day. First time fir me too.
@@DylanKowalski123 Gotta patch up my trusty 97 civic this way, she still has life in her. Being a realist i dont want to pay 2x the car worth to a professional who may or may not do it professionally :D I will use some rust converters and epoxy underlay where I can tho.
Thank you for doing a simple fast demo and not wasting our time! Greatly appreciated!
Should have formed the flare with fiberglass by putting tape over rust first the use fiberglass before cutting out rust
you actually had the 🏀 🏀’s to make a video for something you never tried before... maaaaaaan i gotta give you a hug, you did a great job without knowing exactly how to go about it and you still made it look good... 👍🏼 👍🏼... great video!!!!!!!!!
Thanks I make alot of videos trying stuff for the first time
I have to give you full credit. I do metal finish for restorations BUT on a cheap car, what I learned in 40 years of work was that you need to match the repair to the car. I do a '3 year repair' for cars that I am certain will not make it beyond that time (usually because the owner will kill the car). I got over all snobbishness of a quality repair when a guy brought me an old Volvo 122 that had crappy body work from a PO. I asked him what was the longest he had ever owned a vehicle (in perspective, I have a 1970 Land Rover I bought in 1989 - and own to this day). He said he sells them in 2 years or less. He wanted it looking nice, painted inside and out (to 'look' like a full restoration he said). Well, 2K later and it left with the cheapest smoothed over rust repairs (but great paint) I ever did. He called me three months later and said he crashed the car. He got full insurance payment for it. Sometimes cheap is okay. Sometimes "good enough" is okay. Knowing when those times are takes experience. Not everyone has a shop and metal working tools - and not every car is a restoration project requiring metal finish. So - full points and credit for what you did here. You matched your skills to the car to reality; and made the car look better.
Best and most fair comment!
Thats an awesome comment!
🤙🏽
well said.
the end result turned out nice and i appreciate the positive attitude you had when tackling this on your first attempt. good video editing and time lapses! i'm intimidated myself but got the small kit to try when it warms up a bit. cheers for sharing!
Yo what u did with those beer cans was legendary bro! That's how u recycle!
I know!!! Right ?? I have to fix my van and I LOVE that idea
The only problem is getting someone to empty the beer cans first!
@@bobwolf1811 I think I know a guy
Lol! Fa'sho!💪👍💯
Wow....great job for never having done that before. Had that paint matched that would've turned out really well. I think that given the times we live in, and the fact that when it comes to auto work, it seems like EVERYONE is getting screwed (and the job STILL isn't getting done properly).....that we're all learning that if we take the time to learn and invest in some tools, we can do this on our own. Even if we screw it up a few times while we're learning. I just learned how to replace a clutch, and that's nowhere NEARLY as complicated as I thought. DIY is the way to go. Buy a cheap project car like what you have, and that way if you mess it up while you're learning, you don't feel bad. Anyway, great video, and thanks for posting.
I immediately noticed that you are not an experienced body repair man. But you are a man. 👍
I used to work in a fiber glass factory and I can tell you needed way more resin, then you can shape it how you want. Thanks for giving me the rest of the tips though! Looks good
Good fiberglass work is an art. Just like welding. I'm glad your friend showed up before you completely resin coated that tire. They ride kind of harsh that way.
I love these type of vids where the guy or gal gets right to it and doesn't waste a lot of time with the life story lol Good job 😊 Appreciate everyone's efforts helping the rest of us out...even you guys with the two hour vid that could have been done in 15 mins 😊
Beer cans. Ingenious quick fix to a problem you've never encountered. Bravo. The job came out pretty damn good!
I've been a DITY all my life and I'm impressed by your work ethic and "get it done" grit 👍🇺🇸. I like seeing real life 1st Timers videos - honest and authentic real world KZhead's are the best. I'm going to fix my 2007 Taurus - the RH rear wheel well has a rust hole. Cheers!
Better than what it looked before. Good job!
You sound like Jesse Pinkman from "Breaking Bad". I was waiting on you to say something like "fiberglass, Bitch!"
My exact first thought 😂🤣😂🤣
OH MY GOD HE DOES
Given me the motivation to attempt this myself on my car. 👊🏼👊🏼
For furture reference fill that big hole with spray foam. Let it dry and cut it back that out the fiberglass mesh over it.
Hey that a great idea - suggest Loctite foam - it's closed cell foam ( harder) than open cell foam.
DO NOT DO THIS WHATSOEVER… that foam holds moisture and will rot existing metal very quickly(ask how I know) don’t listen to the info above
@@96_12v what if he seals the inside of the fenders where the foam will touch first? maybe some sprays of anti rust or something?
NOOOOO NEVER USE FOAM
Thank you for the informative video bro! For anyone that's on a budget and isn't an autobody technician, this shows them they can do it and make it look good too! No it doesn't look like it did when it was new, but that's not the point of the video so great job! By the way, i love the mowhawk! I have the same one! I like your style! Pony
Good job bro, i feel inspired from your hard work, great effort for trying, someone probably buy it now, 👍
Greetings here from London, UK. Got the same rust problem in wheel well of an old Ford. Gonna follow your tips and try to fix ourselves. Many thanks.
Have you tried it yet? Any extra tips or comments?
Or you could just take it to a professional auto body shop and have them take care of it so you don't fuck the car up even more 🤷
Depending on the age of the vehicle & how much it had been exposed to the sun, the new paint may not have matched the old due to paint fade, even if the color code for the new paint was correct. I had the same color issue with a touch-up pen that I used on my old car (at 8yrs), even after I washed the whole vehicle. I wonder if applying a new clear coat to the repair area & waxing the surrounding existing finish would have helped(?). That aside, great video, & I appreciated the tip about the fiberglass mat. I went with metal mesh & the fg cloth instead; just had to clean up cloth strands, but def not so frustrating. 👍
You did an awesome dude! Thanks for showing us how it's done!
I was drinking a beer and watching this Didn t know I could use this can for my car 😬😬😬😁😁😁😳😳😳
Got a large rust problem on the lip of my trunk lid. Was able to throw a camera up between the two sheets of metal where some wires go in. THANKFULLY the rust hasn’t spread between the metal sheets yet. It’s still just the bent over/welded flange part. But I was super intimidated to fix because I’d have to basically rebuild a part of it like you had to. This video had some great advice. Will definitely keep some beer cans handy. Thanks man!
I have a '09 Accent that I have to do this exact repair. Thank you so much for the information. I think my husband and I will be able to do it ourselves now.
That was great thanks I’ve never done it before either and that gives me hope so good job
Looks good, respect 👊❤
I think you did an amazing job. I hope I can do as good a job as you did. Thank you for the info. :)
I once watched a guy shove an entire bag of Oreo cookies into a huge dent in his front fender. He then packed Bondo around it. Fast forward a couple months later and he gets into a minor fender bender. The “ patch” broke open and a whole bag of cookies was rolling around the accident scene. I only wish I was there to witness it! 😂
Expat in England. Awesome editing. Great to hear American English 👍 Crystal clear.
My uncle was a BODY-SHOP MAN and he used a lot of metal cans, pop cans, etc. to patch holes ( a basic back-support) then used the body putty, sanding, and paint - he took his time and did a very good looking job !!
Dude this is exactly what I'm looking for. Thanks for giving me the confidence to give it a try
Great video man with all steps looks awesome finished, I’m from Australia and have a 1999 Nissan S15 silvia with pillar rust
Several years ago I used expanding spray foam to fill the rusty rocker panels. Perfect backing for the Bondo filler, but not very structural for the body.
I’m thinking about the same to fix my Jetta air box completely rusty
@@TheDropebr same with my jetta lmao
Do it right and replace the metal
Dude, that was an awsome vid bro. Gotta do more stuff. Youre a natural. Alaska
damn thats resourceful !! pretty great job given youve never done it before wow!! cheers brother!!
I have a '98 s-10. Rust hole in the bottom rear corner of the cab. Wire brushed the rust, and filled the hole with expanding foam. Sawed of the excess with a steak knife after it dried. Sanded it flat. Then I applied 2 coats of bondo. Sanded flat. I can kick it as hard as I want, and the bondo didn't even crack. Solid as a rock, and water-proof. BullyBilly.
Kudos for having a go. Great work.👍
Thank you for this. Can't wait to fix my rust holes in my truck!
Even though the color didn’t match, you should of went ahead anyway with the polishing because you could of shown your audience the finish outcome of your project so that mismatch color wouldn’t of mattered at this point we would’ve all understood. Great job👍
Fantastic repair. Thank you. Love the hair mate
As a fellow DIYer, this was a great first try at it!!
Looks good can't wait to watch you paint the whole car. You have Likes..
I knew the moment I saw the Mohawk and shades, he’d do a good job
Very informative, thanks! I’m going to be doing my van soon. Have a medium size rust spot on the wheel well.
That's pretty doggone impressive results! Nice work.
Fiberglass is fun to work with just have some acetone around for clean up. Good job for your first time.
Beer can had me laughing so hard😂 But I used to be a layup tech and worked with carbon fiber wet layup (I prefer pre-preg so much more) , I used 3M adhesive spray to tact the pieces of carbon fiber then used a paint brush and applied the resin.
That looks great, nicely done.
That's a beautiful job! Very well done!
Love the beer can improvisation. Big 🧠 moment and environmentally friendly! 😊
Thank you for sharing your experience. 🙏 😀
Dude! love the repair and the hair! Thanks
You did a good job man don't worry about it you can always paint it later.
Appreciate the DIY aspect my friend. Hope you are well.
The beer can idea was awesome!
You did a great job bro
Hell yea for the first time awesome job!
I can’t believe you did that in 7 minutes. I have a bunch of body work on my van and was intimidated, but 7 minutes. I only got to fill screw holes from side runners that broke and one small rot spot.
Thanks for the video. I'm getting ready to take on this project on my trailblazer restoration project. The question I have is how many hours of work roughly did you have into this job
Thanks for testing it out first for me. 👍
Wax can take the clear coat off. Then just get the right color. Spray it again. Clear again. Good job. I think it will always rust again. Cut the cost down just use regular Bondo. Don't cut away as much as you did. Just take the bubbles off leave the rust behind.. spray rust restore and leave it two days. Then apply mesh with jbweld behind to bring closer to outer surface. Then just apply regular Bondo. Prime leave for two weeks to harden of course do this in above 70° weather. After two weeks sand put on finishing putty sand with 1000 grit then paint. Leave first coat for four hours. Then second coat. Then clear. Wallah it will last for two years. Rust will come bay. Because there is just around the outside. Light sanding. Reapply paint
still looks pretty good. well done.
Notice the "Help" in the dust at 3:49 😂😂😂
Hi there. I was wondering if this had any effect on the car's structural integrity? And also, do you think this would work in the engine bay for the battery compartment?
You did not give this your all, that being said I have always tried with many worse results! ### Glad you tried and even asked for help;) you did a good job, but more credit to you for just trying!!! That is step #1 and step #1 = everything, all that matters. well done!💪
Damn you did a good job..I do body work as part of my business..cheers to ya bro
Thanks for the video. Gotta do some rust work on my truck but most of it is non visible on the fold under of the cab. I think that beer can ingenuity its gonna come in handy.
All these years later still held up
Really enjoyed the video. Definitely will be trying the beer can tip.
Will you could have used a small brush for the fiber glass mat?
Thanks man same thing to repair on my project
Looks pretty good actually 🤙
You made that look easy thanks
Bro, good job!
I live in Florida and it rains a lot here. I wonder if the bondo holds up in a wheel well with heavy rain?
Great job!
I’m inspired bro good job
That's pretty good man. Thanks!
What could you use instead of the fiberglass to hold the can beer can to the wheel well? Would double side tape work as well ?
You should open your body shop. Great job.
Looks amazing. What would happen if i bondoed / Bondoglassed over both sides of the rust and the sprayed rust proof primer or something over it? My car is a pos and I'm not concerned about the looks. Just want the rust to pass inspection. Thanks!
If it’s not surface rust don’t do it
“Definitely not perfect” XD cheers from Poland. I decided to save my ’95 civic from rusting into oblivion. Thanks for the laughs mr Kowalski:)) pozdrówka of hondziarza dla hondziarza:)
Good job man!!
Asking because i have a big ole hole in my $1200 used car rocker panel (nothing structural and all the external body panel, currently), and welding seems like itll be more than what I got the car for: Since you did this work, how has it held up? Did this help prevent rust spreading/getting deeper? The hole is pretty wide, but I plan on making some "bridging supports" (not foam) internally to help with application and from bowing/sagging. I dont need the car to last forever, but I dont want my next (hopefully actually nice) car purchase to be determined by when this car rusts apart. I may also modify your painting advice here to freshen up the sun baked paint job the last owner left me with, it seems easier to do for "good enough" than what ive picked up from other videos. How has your paint job also held up, and if you ever got the paint corrected/polished? I'm ok with doing the painting piece meal, like one body panel/area at a time, to make it managable. Thanks for your video and updates! This seems like it'd be fun knowing going in.
Brilliant job!!
Nice one, great effort.
Thanks for the video! Where can you buy all of the supplies locally?
Using a beer can cut to shape is actually a really neat money saving tip! Shame about the paint match problem but lets face it, on a 200k mile Accent, it doesn't really matter!
What brand gave you non match paint so i don't order from them?
I have the same problem thanks for this
Good job 👍🏾
Beautiful job this is great
Invisible repair 👍
Dang you did good bro
This looks great. 👍
Great job! 👍🏿
Good job man. Free car that needs repairs, who cares how you fixed that hole. Looks great and you did it cheap. Fuck it.
Bro. This is dank. But the end result is pretty good.
Thanks for the Upload! I've noticed some rust on my car, and it's driving me absolutely crazy!! It's just a small area, but still!!! If I was to take it to a body shop to repair that one area, what's and average price of the cost?
If You’re not gonna fix it treat it with something so the rust doesn’t get worse
