Incredible Kevin Estre lap of the Nürburgring in the new Porsche 911 GT3 RS

Incredible 7:04 BTG lap of the Nürburgring Nordschleife that I did with the very talented Porsche factory race driver Le Mans winner Kevin Estre, in the Porsche 991.2 GT3 RS with Weissach Package. Identical car used by Kevin on his record n/a 6:56 lap, with suspension set up for the Nordschleife by the race team, however the car on this day was fitted with the standard Cup N2 tyres, not the faster Cup R tyres as used on the record lap.
This car was loaned for the day by the Porsche factory to raise money for @dusportetplus charity at the Manthey Racing trackday. Stability control was switched off during the lap, but traction control was left on to save rear tyre wear.
After Flugplatz we hit a top speed of 275km/h 171mph - some 3km/h faster at the same point than his record 6:56 lap.
Thank you to Kevin for organising and the amazing driving!

  • I've actually done a GT3 RS ring taxi tour and I was quiet for about half an hour after the lap. People think they're fast or lap great times on Assetto Corsa with all the assists off, but the raw feeling of being in a GT3 with a competent driver at the wheel... it's something else. The G forces while braking and cornering... The speed when they corner. In your mind you know you'd crash in your own car at that speed, but the GT3 just handles it. It cost me 300 euro for 1 lap, but it was money well spent.

    • Hate on AC if you must, but you have to admit that sims like Assetto Corsa are great for getting to know the track. Even on the game, i tend to fatigue throughout the 2nd half of the track and can end up hitting a wall from loss of concentration. It amazes me to see how they are taking the turns and hear the throttle response on certain parts of the turn. Throughout this video i was amazed at when the throttle was being applied around some of the turns. Even on a Sim, I'm not confident to get back on the throttle on some of the turns. I'm like woah, that's borderline crazy. If only the passenger was more familiar with the track. He would know where the scary parts are 😂

    • @@monjier I don't hate on AC. It's my favorite sim racer and I play it weekly on witch my Logitech G920 with the 6 speed manual addon. It's great indeed. And yes after a few laps I start crashing. So those 24h drivers with stints of hours at a time... wow.

    • @@monjier The 911 being a rear engine car, in turns you don't want to lift off the throttle. This causes the suspension to unload and the back end will try to take over and drive where it wants to go. I think that's how it works. Brake before and accelerate through the turns anyway . Most street drivers do just the opposite.

    @callumcc7@callumcc74 жыл бұрын
    • Probably not, because Porsche say that ca 70% of (regular) GT3 owners take it to the track. And I think they are generally doing OK, as the Ring is "owned" by Porsche drivers, as you can see in virtually any Ring video. It is a true drivers car, if you go anywhere in the Alps that is the #1 car for people who drive for fun, or if you go anywhere where there are driving roads, the Porsche count is always high.

      @Baerchenization@Baerchenization4 жыл бұрын
    • Yeah, not gonna lie, Porsche’s actually don’t really fit that profile. A lot of people with Porsche’s like them because they drive really well. And not everyone has access to the ring in their Porsche’s either 😂 if only that were the case. Now if you want to talk about cars built for speed that are never driven, take a look at basically any Italian supercar.

  • We started buying Porsches taking delivery at the factory a few decades ago. They would give you a tour of the factory and then take you to their testing track where you could be a passenger for a lap or two. The factory was cleaner than a hospital and the experience was far beyond cool. Thanks for taking us along on this lap.
