    • Had a corgi with the ex. She (the dog) wasn´t all that well trained, but we did get her to not bark indoors relatively easily. She would still let us know people was near our front door by growling, but only rarely bark loudly... Had her for about 4 years and walked her about 2 hours each days letting her talk to all strangers, stimulation is important! :)

    • Kaytie Buckhalt That's an interesting point. My sister has 2 corgis that are apartment dogs. They bark constantly. I have a corgi but I live on 2 acres and she spends most of her time outside chasing rabbits. She barks some outside but she only barks in the house when she has a reason to. She's an awesome dog but she seems to have decided that it's her mission in life to keep the cats in line. Fortunately my 3 cats are pretty good natured and they pretty much tolerate her without doing any damage.

It was explained to me that when the shelter picked him up wondering the street, he was altered at the shelter,and the previous owners didn't want him because he could no longer breed.😢 Its okay because he has a very loving home,and we're so lucky to have him ❤️ he even has the same colors as Gatsby! 😍

    • I agree, but like what he said it is very hard to get a corgi that way. I've been on a waiting list for the last two years for a regional corgi adoption facility and have not heard anything. It's not like I don't have experience either, my husband and I have 2 adult corgis.

      @janelle47928@janelle479285 жыл бұрын
    • Wanda Richardson agreed. I found my dog through petfinder. It took 6 months of checking daily but ended up with a great dog that's a great fit so it was well worth it. The right one is out there and there are so many rescues that it's possible to find if you have patience

      @heathercallahan78@heathercallahan785 жыл бұрын
    • I approached several rescue organizations when I was looking for a dog, specifically a corgi since I had a couple of them growing up. 1) No rescues corgis were available in my part of the country, 2) other rescue dog organizations would not consider you without a yard (despite having an off-leash dog park at the end of my block), 3) they wanted somebody home with the dog alone no more than 4 hours a day or they would not consider you, and 4) they required an inspection of the home before you could receive the dog. It was kind of like dealing with a Home Owners Association that wanted to control your life. If you find a rescue corgi, more power to you! However, I found the rescue groups (specifically purebreds) to be unfavorable unless you have a large home, work from home / have a stay-at-home spouse, and fenced yard. But, ultimately that may be a supply/demand issue.

      @jasonharron2881@jasonharron28815 жыл бұрын
    • Jason Harron That may seem really hard but they wanna make sure that the dog gets into his now forever home. In rescues many dogs already have made some bad experiences with humans and so they need some extra care. So they just wanna make sure you are the perfect home for that dog.

    • I found my Stuart in one day by contacting Lakeshore Corgi Rescue, the main entity for the Midwest at the time. He was a ten month old tricolor. Of course that was pre-social media, back in December of 1999.... Back then most folks had no idea what a Pembroke Welsh Corgi was. The usual response to what Stuart was, was "A what?" We've come a long way since then. I believe PWCs were in the 30s or 40s of popularity rank. Now they are in the top twenty. I lost Stuart in March of this year. He was 19 years, one month, one week, one day. Since then I have casually looked for another rescue. I've seen several in the last month for rehoming on Facebook groups here in Michigan. So, if you are less particular about gender, age, and color, the process won't be that long.

I’ve had many many dogs in my life and I have to say my corgi is the best behaved and best temperament dog I’ve ever had in my life. She is really an angel from heaven and best friend. I spent 1600 on her. I actually got her for my daughter who was 10 at the time and I was very apprehensive about another living thing in my house but absolutely no regrets. She walks right next to us, doesn’t chase other people or dogs and is just full of love. Really the picture perfect dog anyone could imagine. 10/10!

  • We have had two Pembroke Welsh Corgis for a total of 25 years. They do shed a lot but I would say that is their only negative. Both of our dogs were males and did not bark very much. We had the second one for months before he barked which meant we had to watch to know when he wanted to go out - he would just stand by the back door. The other thing worth mentioning is corgis will tailor their energy to yours. So if we were hiking, they were up for it, but they were also champion nappers. They are gregarious, happy little dogs with big personalities and brought a lot of love and companionship to our lives.

  • I would say a lot of breeders sell their puppies for even higher than $1,000 now due to popularity. I got my corgi in 2016 and she was $1250. Since then, my breeder has raised her prices by a few hundred and I hear from my friends who also own corgis that their breeders have done the same. I've been lightly looking into prices(my original breeder moved) since I hope to get another pup in the near future, and the ranges I've seen(specifically in the western half of the United States) are from $1,000 to $2,000. I'm sure you can find one for $800 but it's much more rare than it used to be.

  • Gatsby's super cute and I love Ryan's videos but PLEASE everyone: if you want a dog, don't focus on a purebred breed you want and go spend hundreds on buying one. Go to a shelter, find a sweet dog there, save you money, and adopt him/her! The breed doesn't matter. You don't need a 850 dollar corgi just because you think they're cute dogs. There's so many dogs with no home, no families, stuck in cages and potentially euthanized if not adopted. Choose them!

    • While I wholeheartedly agree with you, people still have the right to get a purebred. The main thing I would say is that, if you want to get a shelter pet, then do, but if you want to get a purebred then make sure that the breeder you are getting the dog from is responsible and a reputable breeder. I've heard so many horror stories of people paying breeders on facebook and then finding out later that the "breeder" wasn't a breeder and stole their money.

    • Hannah Marie While I do agree with you and people should go to shelters to adopt pets from there, not every family CAN do that. Sometimes families require something specific (like a hypoallergenic dog for example) so they would have to find a reputable breeder for that breed. I strongly agree that you shouldn’t just find a breeder and a purebred dog just because it’s cute, though. That’s a bit shallow to me, personally, because they could’ve just gone to the shelter and saved a life instead. I think that you should always go to the shelter with the exception of times when you need to find a specific pet, when you get your first dog, and (possibly) if you have children/babies that could possibly freak/be freaked by a new dog

    • Mabel Liu Not all shelter dogs are the same! You can find small dogs at a shelter, big dogs, lazy dogs, active dogs, etc. I've seen everything from little poodles to huskies and labs.

  • My family had a corgi for 12 years! He was a bossy one for sure. We called him the house police. He would bark at us for hugging, laughing, running, anything. If he was awake and wanted you to be awake he would headbutt the door to get in and yell at you until you got up. My favorite was crawling around on the ground, mooing and pretending I was a cow. He would freak out and play. Corgis are the best!

    • All dogs need love and homes, not just shelter pups. If you want to really make a difference, volunteer and donate to said shelter. You don't have to always adopt a dog. Most shelters need supplies and foster homes the most.

    • TheRedhead1997 - That is such an obvious statement. Dogs from breeders are usually born with love and homes at the ready. For shelter dogs, it may be years before they have either. See the difference?

    • People who take the time to wait and do their research aren’t usually the ones who dump their dogs in the shelter or the ones to abuse their dogs, if everyone educated themselves and think it through long and hard before getting a dog, making sure they’re getting it from a responsible breeder who commits to their dogs, then there will be much less dogs in the shelter

  • I have a Corgi Chihuahua mix. He mostly looks like a Corgi, but has the skinny Chihuahua legs and tail. I got him from the local Humane Society when he was 5 yrs old and he's almost 7. I see characteristics from both breeds. He's feisty like the Chihuahua, but plays a lot like the Corgi. He gets along with our Cockapoo, but growls at our cat when he tries to sneak on my lap if he's already on it. I love both breeds and having a mix gives us the best of both.

  • to add onto this video, people make sure you look into both corgi breeds as they are both different and one might be better for you then the other! also never buy a pembroke corgi who has a blue merle coat, only cardigan welsh corgis have a merle coat, any pem with a merle coat is a sign of bad/improper breeding and most likely only done for the money!

    @A_guan@A_guan5 жыл бұрын
    • We love ours and though our first corgi was not our first dog, he was amazing. They do need a lot of attention and energy outlets so plan to spend a lot of time outside with a ball. If you can do that you're ready! Just one more thing, make sure you have them on a really good diet to go along with their exercise.

  • My Corgi is a rescue and we got her without being on a wait list. She is 67% Corgi, 20% Collie, 9% German Shepherd, 2% Jack Russel, 1% Other She doesn't bark due to her previous owners spraying her when she did and when she barks she backs up thinking that she will get sprayed. We don't. She is still a little bit anxious whenever she barks or digs(She got sprayed for that with her previous owners)

The horse back riding barn I've been going to for 10 years has lots of adorable corgis I've loved and bonded with over the years. We breed the corgis ever so often and bring them to the barn and put them in our special corgi room especially made for corgi puppies and their momma! We sure love our corgis so if I were to get one to call my own it couldn't be any easier!

His friend actually bought a purebred puppy and decided she didn’t want it after realizing it would be a lot of work (duh) so he got a purebred for free. He’s done a very good job since Corgis are super energetic and need lots of attention. Now she’s a year old and my brother has graduated college. Idk why I wanted to say that but yeah
