    @ringobento8576@ringobento85766 жыл бұрын
  • Liston was a great boxer with natural brute strength, size, incredible reach, and excellent left jab - probably the most powerful jab in history. These alone made him intimidating but even more so he was an expert in using leverage and momentum to put his entire body into his punches - even his jab. Watch how he twists his hips and pushes off his back foot with his jab to rearrange facial structure, internal organs, and crush bones. The scariest thing about Liston was his calm demeanor and black "shark" eyes that silently screamed "I'm not here to just win. I'm here to literally kill you." It's true fighters feel some degree of fear before fighting anyone but Liston may be the sole exception. There isn't any fear in his eyes - in fact it's even more frightening that his icy stare almost has a "sense" of sorrow for his opponent - just a sense though - because mercy was something he showed no one. There will never be another Liston.

  • Sonny is still, even with something of a revival, one of the most underrated boxers of all time. He was ancient by the time he fought Ali, not to mention the fights may have been fixed. One of the most talked about and admired Ali performances was against Cleveland Williams. But Williams prior to this had been shot and a portion of his insides removed - go look it up. He was nowhere near the Cleveland Williams he was prior to this incident - Liston beat him in his prime, when Williams was a monster - knocked him out, twice. Sonny was misunderstood and was dealt a bad hand.. He wanted to be embraced but due to his lack of education, mob ties, and criminal record he was never given that chance... I'll say this, from what I've learned even though Sonny was a terror in the ring, I would have loved to hang out with him to find out more about the man... Cant say that about the young Tyson and Foreman's..

You need to improve your knowledge buddy, if your gonna make big statements like that 😂. No disrespect to Shavers, he was a devastating puncher but he would never beat Tyson Fury. Ngannou is a killer too. Also with movement Liston always struggled, I dont think the Fury fight is a good match up for him, same with Foreman. • You don't just have an intimidating look from nothing. Sonny's harsh upbringing prepared him emotionally for the worst. He might have been in some ways desensitised to violence and his record is an indicator for that before he became a boxer. Secondly, because he overpowered men in prison and later beat in the ring his physical prowess and self-confidence gave him that totally unimpressed, calm yet predatory-like persistent, piercing and focus look. When people see that look they know they aren't in control anymore and it is unsettling.

  • What a strange and sad ending for what I definitely consider an all time great.He was Tyson and Foreman all in one dude with a glare that would cut a hole in you.I'l never forget reading where when Ali leading up to the first fight had been taunting Liston endlessly but often from a save distance and on one occasion got close enough for Liston to grab him and pull him close and whisper menacing in Ali's ear that he would kill him right there if he did not cut it out and Ali desperately trying to escape his grasp while yelling let me go ,man.and looking around for help.Finally Liston let him go all the while grinning like a cheshire cat knowing he spooked the challenger good.I can't vouch for the accuracy of this story but it speaks to Liston's ability to scare the hell out of you.

  • My favorite fighter of all time, Mr. Sonny Liston. It is most unfortunate to see so many negative comments regarding Floyd Patterson. The two fights that he had against Sonny, are the very reason Floyd was truly deserving of the HOF. He knew he would lose, and yes, he admitted to being afraid. A coward though, he was not. Floyd went against everyone's advice, including JFK himself, and was seemingly the only person who publically treated Sonny with dignity, and respect. The only one who saw Sonny as a human being. After both fights, there were more than a few people that found out very quickly that if you wanted to piss Sonny Liston off, all you had to do was denigrate Floyd Patterson in front of him. Anyone stupid enough to do so, knew immediately that Sonny was not going to brook any japes made at Floyd's expense. Great video, thank for putting it together!
