Let's see how many people are listening to this masterpiece in 2021
March 13th, 2021. First heard this song in 2006, the year mum died of cancer, this song speaks right to my core.
@@deniseross3365 Condolences go to you my man !🙏🏽
Thought of it randomly and felt the need to listen‼️
I'm here! Was directed to a live version a few weeks back where he explains why he wrote this song. And made it infinitely more sad to me. Keep on keeping on y'all.

I'm 93 years old and still listen to this. Matchbox 20 rocks.
Rock on!
Right on? Only 54 but some music has no expiration date. Thank God.
Good on Ya! I am 72, 🇨🇦
That's impressive, I'm 109 years old and love this song
You rock!!
Rob Thomas' voice always makes me think of being 18, walking the California streets at all hours of the night with my cousins. Wasting time was so much fun
Much respect for young man who takes care of their mom, you're a blessing 🎉🎉

Let's see how many are listening to this in 2024!!! Love it.
Just mess with his mother and grandma
Yep 💯❤❤
Yes!!!

The best😊
The fact that he wrote this song about his mom who was going through cancer when he was young and had to care for her... he lived a really tough life but created some beautiful music ❤️
I don't this song LOUDLY I ❤IT ALWAYS HAVE
Yeah I heard him tell his story about that. And he also mentioned as mom beat the cancer! Great share to you😊
I've been fighting cancer getting chemo and radiation on my neck, had to eat through a tube cause my throat and tongue got so tore up. The pain seemed unbearable for awhile. One night I could not sleep as usual, turned on my youtube and this song came up exactly 3:00.
Such a beautiful song 😢
not even close.. but i guess thats what people want the song to be about so..
My cousin died this morning. We were extremely close growing up, to the point where I basically thought of her as my big sister. The kind who could out-burp a 7 year old boy and who you just KNEW would have your back in a fight no matter what. Matchbox 20 was her favorite band, and we used to blast it while 4 wheeling in my Jeep. You are missed, Rachel. Missed and loved.
Those are really good memories! I bet their music will always be a comfort for you!
Lied to, you mean. Constantly lied to by everyone who claimed to love me. You're all horrible.
My deepest sympathies
Rachel is far from dead my friend.. Rachel is eternal like the rest of us, and she’s merely unseen and in her natural form. I assure you she is closer to you now more then ever. She is more alive then we are. When you get the chills… that’s your “6th sense” picking up on the influx of energy around you. Even though unseen.. very much alive and active brother. Listen to your Jiminy cricket and always let your conscious be your guide, keep an open mind and see what you get 😁Peace and Love brother 💙
I am so sorry for your loss. I have a cousin that I've always loved as a sister. I've lost her to drugs. Hopefully she gets it together. RIP Rachel. She had good taste in music I see.
Believe it or not, Rob Thomas wrote this song about the time he spent caring for his mother when she was sick with cancer. Thomas was 12 years old when she got the disease, and she was given six months to live. She beat it. True story.
That iit what makes it so powerful.
thanks now im crying :')
@JOHN L SULLIVAN 100%
If you ever attend one of his concerts or matchbox 20 concerts he will tell you that before he sings the song!
@@pmobes111 Why did you turn a beautiful song into a childish left wing tantrum? You are pathetic.

Evolutions will still keep going forward and I too miss simpler life. But we just have to face it togther Chef W
@@Someone-nt8wz I like how you're "agreeing" with him, despite the fact he didn't say shit to you. It's morons like you that constantly find a way to bring politics into something inherently positive. Keep it the hell out of good music. Id love to hang out with him
I love this song! Didn't know that! Thank you for that info!
Aw..this is so sweet
For those of us who lived it, the 90s made a lot more sense than today does.
90s was coming out of the 80s recession credited to Reagan and Bush Sr. Had a decade of prosperity. No cell phone distracting everyone. Companies still had pensions. One could have switched jobs at will. It literally took less than a week to get hired instead of the endless interview process of today. Federal budget had a surplus and national debt was being paid. Then the 90s ended and boom, 9/11. George Bush Jr. and his dumbass terrorist level chart to keep the public in fear and him in power. Then came the 2008 "Great Recession" once again attached to someone who's last name was "Bush". Took nearly another decade to get back on track but an insanity asylum candidate was elected President. Under his leadership, 2020 is doing "so well!" sigh.
Well I grew up in the 90s loved it. And I have alot of respect
No doubt. Certified 90s kid here. I love the 90s alt/grunge
let em know what's up, cause it was banger 🤣

Would we ever live in a time with this kind of music 😢
Man this takes me back to a good time in my life. It reminds me I used to have a family who loved me , they're all dead now. Things have changed and I'll never get those beautiful days back. It's crazy how a song can bring back so many forgotten memories of a time long gone. I'll never forget.
Sorry to hear that. Take care of yourself!

Rob Thomas is his name he sings under his real name also.
dean gadwah this song is about rape

I heard it was about his aunt who was dying of cancer.
+Andrew Ryan This song is about his mother and her struggle with cancer not rape. What the fuck man?
The loss of Charlie Colin has me reminiscing about all the music I've listened to growing up.
Working offshore Louisiana 1990s 200 miles off Venice Louisiana taking helicopters out to the oil rigs and the furious winds and huge seas and fishing working and great Cajun creole food !!’ Awesome memories 3AM always wafting through the vessel. Great memories

This band is underrated.
💯 Unwell is one of my all time favorites.
anyone remember trying to record your favorite songs from the radio onto a cassette
Yes I did. We were pretty poor. I have many cassettes with DJ talking at the beginning of song.
Hello yeah! Those were the good ole days!
I did it a few times. I picked up everything.
Hell yea we used to back in the day! Didnt do very good but had a hell of alot of fun and alot of good memories
Yup... back in the 1970s!
I think that Rob Thomas and Matchbox 20 are way too underrated! The way Thomas writes songs … there’s so much meaning… and I know that I can relate!
Leica...Its his melodic gifts that separate him from the pack.
Underrated? This song was on the radio 25x per day for literally 10 years straight
I am grateful to be had the choice to listen to these songs, that will never grow old
And his voice!!! My favorite
Underrated? I swear the least original and intelligent people use that comment on every video. They were huge for a good bit of time. All over the radio, on tours, solo stuff, winning awards. Wtf are you even talking about
My mum died recently and matchbox 20 is what we used to listen to all the time and sing our hearts out. Now these songs are beautiful reminders of our time together. ❤
This song is about his mom having cancer I believe. Sorry for your loss.
Sorry for your loss.

Their songs will be forever remembered..
The 90s were a pain that was worth everything. Today’s pain is too much. Not even worth it.
It's worth it, SimplyPatti. God loves you and so do I.
Jesus tells us to endure it and we will be saved. Just hold on and we will get through this. You are not alone, God loves you
80's was the love era, and passion.. mid 90's into the late 90's was the anger, pain and break up hits..
Thats just wistful nostalgia of a youth and innocence us aging Gen X'ers don't have anymore. You'll be fine, I promise.
70-80 and 90’s were 100% better
Columbus, OH Summer 1997. $8 tickets with my college buddies to see a band named "Matchbox 20". Best show live show I've ever seen. Where have the years gone?

This was my father's favorite song. He was my best friend. He died 5 years ago from cancer. He was 63 when he passed,so yes this is legendary stuff that surpasses all time descriptions. I still miss you Dad now as much as the first day without you and that will never change,I play this for you!
i was just pondering something dangerously similar, how TimeLESS..! Although so does everything
This song is about his experience while his mom was battling cancer when he was young. Peace be with you.
Having songs to remember dad's by is so special! I lost my dad 32 years ago to cancer, he was only 32, and the song that I always love to hear is Go For Soda by Kim Mitchell. I honestly dont know why it reminds me of my dad but it does.
I'm a 64 yrs 0ld❤ to hear this master piece never gets old💟☮️
I have a playlist of 2000s music that I listen to for nostalgic purposes. My dad used to play this song on our TV when KZhead used to be on our Wii a while back. Simpler times. No worries 😢
This band just truly captures the late 90s. Literally everything about them.
This song definitely takes me back to the spring of 1997. Life back then was much more fun and carefree. No worries about voilence, racial and economic injustice, no wars, people were in a much happier mood back then. I'm thankful i grew up in the 1990's.
Yeah, I do.
DynamicSpace Omfg ur right I graduated in 1999 n grew up on this music hell yea :)!!!!!
SoCal Laid Back Guy I wish I grew up then I grew up in the 2000s and it really sucks
SoCal Laid Back Guy Thats stuff was all around then as much as it is now lol Its just the 97 was such a good year u wernt distracted by the bull sh** of the world.
All that stuff was there in the 90s, even worse than it is now. You (and most other people, including myself) just weren't aware of it then.
To the person that reads this, I ask the Lord to bless them and their family, to cure them of every sickness and pain, to fill their emptiness with love joy and peace, to rebuke the enemy from their lives. " ASK JESUS TO COME INTO YOUR HEART AND SAVE YOU, AND TO FORGIVE YOU OF YOUR SINS, FOR WE GIVE THANKS AND GLORY TO THE LORD. IN THE MIGHTY NAME OF JESUS CHRIST AMEN!
This man has such a kind, lovable heart.
I wish Matchbox 20 would start touring again.
PridefulSaucerr 3333 Really?!! i can't wait!
Peter Whiteside AWESOME
Jeff Stinnett Rob Thomas is YAH !
usually do it after they come out with an album
They need to record a new album with this 90s sound, the first album is by far their best!
Matchbox twenty is criminally underrated. It's such a wonderful song along with the rest of their creations.
I don't know 1 too 40 song today's music
Actually they were huge back in the day. It's only underrated now because people dont know good music anymore.
Agreed
Would not be surprised if the rock stations wouldn’t play since it was too pop and the pop stations wouldn’t since it was too rock. Get past genres and sub genres music is music is MUSIC.

This is a piece of art ❤
I am so glad to say I grew up in the 90's, with this music. so authentic and timeless. songs like this were so great. instead of people hiding behind computer screens or looking at their cellphones all the time, people seemed to communicate more face to face. social media wasn't a thing. just cool songs on the radio and cool music videos on tv. what a time to be alive. even though you can see these videos and hear this music on KZhead now, there's simply nothing like hearing the music back when it came out and was being played on the radio constantly. when I heard a song I liked, I would go buy the album. I still have all my old c.d.'s from the 90's. songs like this were special. life was simpler and not as scary, to me. social media seemed to water down the authenticity of music. there are certain artists I still like, but nothing compares to the realness of 90's bands
I feel the same way about the music from the 60's, 70's & early 80's. Those were the years that built the foundations of progressive rock, metal, and smooth mellow harmonies that made us parants, and raised youre generation, and hopefully inspired our love of music as much to you all. We lived in a time when it was free to see bands play, and only a couple of tv shows even covered music back then. Like Ed Sullivan or American Bandstand, then later on in the 70's came the Midnight Special. Now, there's too much going on in every direction to keep up on the new talent thats out there, and too many faces glowing from either facebooger or tic-tack to care much. And it seems that lately some are more intrested in voicing their opinions about politics, than singing their own songs. To say you seen Cream, The Beatles, the Eagles, or the Stones, says alot more than just an era of music too. Keep Rockin & Keepin it Real my friend, cause the music never stops. I know, i listen to dead people now
I am 116 years old and still love this song
Ahahahah 116 aye wow that’s dumb
You think you're better than me?
It’s a masterpiece still in 2024🎉❤😊love this song.
As a musician who really does not listen to much radio music, I really admire the songwriting and individual talent of each band member. The bass lines in this song in particular are so underrated!
Side note, if you like bass lines: listen to a song called 'egg' by the garden
Listen to the vh1 storytellers episode of matchbox 20. KZhead will prob have a playlist for it.
EVERYTHING is underrated to your new heads... -_-

90s songs had a great way of telling a story.
Anyone else get goosebumps when the first guitar notes start playing on these nostalgic songs? It does for me every time!
She says it's cold outside and she hands me my raincoat She's always worried about things like that She says it's all gonna end and it might as well be my fault And she only sleeps when it's raining And she screams, and her voice is straining And she says baby It's three a.m. I must be lonely When she says baby Well I can't help but be scared of it all sometimes And the rain's gonna wash away I believe it She's got a little bit of something, god it's better than nothing And in her color portrait world she believes that she's got it all She swears the moon don't hang quite as high as it used to And she only sleeps when it's raining And she screams, and her voice is straining And she says baby It's three a.m. I must be lonely Oh, when she says baby Well I can't help but be scared of it all sometimes And the rain's gonna wash away I believe this She believes that life isn't made up of all that you're used to And the clock on the wall has been stuck at 3 for days, and days She thinks that happiness is the mat that sits on her doorway But outside it stopped raining And she says baby It's three a.m. I must be lonely When she says baby Well I can't help but be scared of it all sometimes And the rain's gonna wash away I believe this Well it's three a.m. I must be lonely Well hell, when she says baby Well I can't help but be scared of it all sometimes ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

Applause 👏 to Rob Thomas/Matchbox 20 & ACTUAL MUSIC!!
Saw him in concert 2 years ago. It's about his mom having cancer. So much more powerful now that I understand it.
his wife also fighting cancer. if im not mistaken a brain cancer. you can check further online. yeah , so sad.
+TheWowwa his wife doesn't have cancer, she had a brain lesion at the base of her head, she had surgery and had it removed. She's okay.
My moms friend is closest friends with the lead singer!
Yeah, you run across those from time to time. I didn't really think much about the lyrics of Shinedown's "The Crow and the Butterfly" until I read an interview where the lead singer said the song was about a parent packing up their child's bedroom after he died, because they just couldn't take seeing it empty anymore. And Seether's video for "Rise Above This" is just gut-wrenching when you know Shaun Morgan wrote the song to cheer up his depressed brother, but the video centers around someone jumping off a building because his brother committed suicide by jumping to his death shortly before the album released.
Man I miss the 90's, music was an expression of the soul. Now music is whatever will sell records or "downloads".
It’s now 2024 and still a masterpiece 😂🩷💕😎
Love you Rob
