In this episode, we set up version 1 of Microsoft Internet Information Server (IIS) on Windows NT 3.51 server and get it serving up a default webpage.

  • Put it on the public web anyway and see what happens. Experiment is better than postulating. Just use a virtual machine to run it on.

    • Yeah, it's an idea I'm contemplating for a future video. I just have to set something up to do it - run a VM and make sure it's probably isolated from the rest of my network, then open it up to see what happens. There seems to be at least one vulnerability (CVE-1999-0233) affecting this version of IIS, and I have yet to find any details on whether it was patched, hence why I didn't open up to the outside on that machine - but get it in a configuration where I know it can't impact the rest of my network and that could be an interesting experiment.
