    • American bully is not a breed. It's not recognized by a single kennel club and that's the problem. Calling every dog an American bully xl isn't helping anyone. They are mutts.

    • You need to push the regulation of big dog ownership, be the hand that guides how that is implemented. I'd look to the reptile community's conduct, for example... a responsible breeder of reticulated pythons will not sell their snakes to just anyone who has the cash, like most dog breeders do. They need to prove both their knowledge of the species and capability of the housing conditions to the breeder before they decide whether or not to sell to this individual. This ban has gone through solely at the fault of irresponsible puppy factories, selling to incapable owners. It is widely known within the reptile community, that one bad example of mishandling these animals reflects *badly* on the whole community of keepers and it could lead to an outlawing of the species. Venomous keepers know this more than anyone. An XL Bully, has the potential to be just as dangerous as any rattlesnake. Perhaps even more so, as there is no antivenom for torn flesh. People who buy these dogs as a tool to make easy money, or as a tool for self-defence, should plain and simply not be sold one. That's how things get banned. A mother who is easily overpowered by this dog, should probably settle for a Frenchie instead. A guy with a *recent* criminal record for drugs or violence, should probably be advised to get a more tempered German Shepherd instead. They serve the same purpose, they're just not the notorious status symbol they want to be seen with. Everyone's saying "it's not the bad dogs, it's the bad owners..." Well it's time that XL Bully owners held their own community accountable, like reptile keepers do. Or else they'll all get put down like the Pitbulls were. Banning the breed *with exemption* for those currently residing here is where we're at. The last thing you want, is for more attacks to happen and then the exemption gets revoked. That's the next step if responsibility is not SELF-enforced.

  • My opinion has change SLIGHTLY on this. My original reaction was that it was a stupid over reaction to isolated cases. Then I started seeing more and more and more XLs around as they became the dog of the hour, meaning they were being owned by people who wanted the popular thing and not knowledge to put the work in with something that is potentially dangerous (as many dogs are). Then whilst taking my rescue for a walk we saw a nice put together lady (not the stereotype perpetuated about owner of big dogs like this) walking an XL in the local area. Obviously a new fashion purchase as I know the dogs of the area well. we crossed the road as my dog is nervous but her dog decided he wanted mine, growling, snarling it starts pulling over to mine and she could not stop it. She was almost horizontal pulling back on the lead and it dragged her forward. Stupidly and instinctively I got between it and my dog and was able to keep them away from each other. I’m a big guy, but one one else in that situation could have been fatal. I don’t think a whole breed should be banned, but there needs to be better controls on people purchasing with the knowledge / experience or ability to not create potentially dangerous situation

These folk havnt seen their own dog or child mauled or an adult for that matter, and they are lucky..There is however, plenty of footage out there now of what occurs due to the numerous attacks. • Thank you for being grown up about this. As a dog owner myself (I have grown up with dogs) it frustrates me seeing people putting things on social media about their gentle giant XL Bully and then a clip of a snarling chihuahua. Problem is if a chihuahua goes on a rampage someone might get a little nip in comparison to if an XL Bully went off on one and someone dies. Sadly too many idiots with zero control over their dogs ruin the lives of those families with a dog who’s persecuted just for their breed and is euthanised. So bravo for your altruism and balanced approach. You give large breed owners a better reputation than the media portray.

      @jeffk464@jeffk4645 ай бұрын
    • @@jeffk464 if the Gov had any brains they would make breeding require a license. And potentially owning a dog needs a licence too. I have known people over breeding French bulldogs, having too many litters and keeping them in squalor to make thousands off them with no care for l welfare or inbreeding. Some people who have brought XL bullies do so because they are the new staffies for drug users and sellers, or because they want to look tough. And have no idea about training and discipline. As per my original comment a crap owner B might have a chihuahua or a bull mastiff, but I know which one I’d rather deal with if it went off the rails. And that’s the risk factor, not saying the breed is any more or less aggressive. Too many morons got a dog during lockdown and don’t care about the pooch. So many dogs up for adoption due to “change in our circumstances….” Often breeds that look cool for instagram such as huskies. Sorry to rant a bit but I love all dogs and it’s a difficult subject that is quite emotive.

  • The worst thing about this ban is how poor the legislation is, being done based on loose descriptions of appearance that can be used to classify many dogs whether they are XL bully or not. How many cross breeds with absolutely no XL bully, pitbull, or any banned breed in their DNA are going to be subject to restrictions or be put down because of this? As it stands, any larger staffy or staffy crossed with a larger breed has always been at risk of being classed as a pitbull since 1991. Even if you want breed specific controls, why do it based on appearance like that? We have had DNA tests for years now. Every major animal charity in the UK is against breed specific legislation. I understand people wanting to reduce dog attacks and XL bullies have certainly seen their fair share, but the current legislation is incompetent and ineffective, and results in inhumane abductions of family pets, murdering innocent dogs, and now in the case of a new breed ban, horrific mass culling. Ultimately it doesn't stop anything because the breeders can just create the next status dog without reprocussions. It's sickeningly inhumane and I'm ashamed of our government's handling of this. I feel terrible for the shelter workers and vets who are going to have to put down hundreds of healthy, well behaved, loving family pets who have never attacked anybody or shown aggressive behaviour.

    • Let’s be fair here. Statistically there is a huge, really huge problem with xl bully’s. This is not a made up probleem. There are indeed to many bad dog owners and this breed is to unforgiving to have a bad owner. Innocent people and children die, and as much as I love dogs, people are more important than dogs. Since it’s not only impractical to filter out the bad owners and remove them from this world, but maybe also a little unethical, we have to do sometimes about the dogs themselves. And unfortunately the best quality of a government is to fuck up, so a lot of innocent dogs and dog owners going to be a victim here. But sometimes has to be done, that’s for sure.

  • Honest question, are bully breeds inherently more dangerous and aggressive or not? Of course all dogs are different but on your channel you recommend greyhounds or bulldogs because they're more relaxed and everyone agrees. We know a Malinois is a very high energy dog that needs someone who can give it a ton of stimulation and will not be happy in a low energy house. Everyone knows labs love to swim and make great family dogs with their gently mouths... So is it crazy to say that pit bulls are dangerous because they're more aggressive and have a monstruous bite and refuse to let go? I'm not trying to start a war in the comments, I just honestly don't understand why we can all agree that a Husky will likely be more stubborn than other breads, but to suggest that a pit bull is more aggressive is a big controversy.

It's hard not to get annoyed and upset at the way this is being handled by people who don't understand the breed. Licensing the owner's of the dog would be so much of a better approach than punishing the dog

  • Such a great video for people who own XL bullies and own a private land (or rent). In the UK, no council tenant is allowed to keep ‘banned dog’ unless they are willing to lose their home in exchange for a pet. As much as I really wanted to agree with you it is with a heavy heart to hear that you have completely given up hope and the opportunity to speak up for dogs that have no voice over what ‘the man’ is going to decide to be their faith. It’s such a great thing for you to offer your muzzle training course for owners of XL bullies free of charge (great for the business from a marketing point of view) but with a heavy heart I watched you abandon an opportunity to speak up about the ban policy being discussed by the Parliament tomorrow (27/11/2023) since over 600 000 bully owners signed a petition to fight for their dogs. I watched you, with a heavy heart, just simply accepting the ban instead of empowering people that it is their own actions that will forever influence their dog’s behaviour and not the bread or the type itself. I humbly disagree with what’s been decided to be acceptable so that to see at least 8 dogs a day ( according to current statistics) already are being put to sleep just because they fit the measurements. Any dog has the ability to attack and cause harm, especially working dogs, including the small Jagd Terrier. Really sorry mate, but as a loving and responsible owner I refuse to believe that simply accepting the ban and just getting dogs trained to comply, will change much …sending love to all!!!❤

    • I completely agree with you. This is just an inhumane treatment of these dogs, especially leaving owners in most circumstances not even being able to do anything for reasons like losing their homes or not being able to afford these outrageous prices for things that just ‘meet the criteria’. They are making this criteria especially difficult just to ensure the death of these dogs which is absolutely disgusting and most of these people benefitting are the ones receiving and collecting all this money. This ban is just a death sentence to so very many dogs that have no way out whether they are professionally trained or not. Absolutely disgusting ban policy.

  • So sorry for unfair biases. I live in the US. About 11 years ago a man with a massive “bully” with completely cropped ears came to my regular dog park. This dog was not on a lead but had a thick chain attached to her collar (the kind to pull a stuck car out of the mud with a tractor) The owner looked equally intimidating BTW. Most people began to gather their dogs and exit the dog park. My 40 lb mixed breed was an excellent judge of character and approached in a friendly way. This massive dog began to wag her tail slowly and that huge mouth seemed to smile. I engaged with the owner who called her a sweetheart. (I’m not sure what to call the owner who chose the tow chain as a lead.) Thanks to my own little dog for doing his part to not be prejudiced. However, he did know which dogs to avoid and he always ignored them and stuck close to me. I learned so much from him. RIP: Farley

  • You put it so correctly: this ban is going to be messy. Owners need to be shining examples who raise and train well-mannered, well-trained dogs, people who know what kind of dog they get and how to handle that dog. It even saddens me when people have an out-of-control Chihuahua, because it’s entirely due to their owners getting themselves a fashion accessory and forgetting they’re getting a dog. My belief has always been that if it barks at the front end and wags its tail at the back end, it needs training, socialising, and proper mental as well as physical stimulation. Lots of breeds get an entirely undeserved bad reputation because of human stupidity and negligence. When the breed is big and powerful, it makes victims and becomes a victim. When it’s a small breed, it becomes a victim. I own a Pit Bull/American Staffordshire Terrier mix and a Chihuahua. Both well trained and socialised. Whenever I head out with one of them or both, I keep a watchful eye out for them and their environment. I keep an eye on their body language and on whatever is around them because that’s what a responsible owner does. If the Chihuahua were to get out of control it could mean her death. If the Amstaff gets out of control it could mean injury and ultimately, potentially his death. And it would be entirely my fault. Even if another dog were to attack because I wouldn’t have seen it coming and I wouldn’t have done what is necessary to protect them. There’s also the point of irresponsible breeders who just keep churning out puppies and produce badly in-bred stock, with health issues and possible mental issues. Dogs breed fast, generations follow up on one another quite quickly. This can inundate an environment with potentially lethal creatures for the sole purpose of monetary gain. I believe that’s part of the issue with XL Bullies and it makes me incredibly sad, because it ruins a wonderful breed and its reputation might never recover. We heed to do better and one of the ways is to make sure our dogs are safe because we make them safe. There is no better publicity than well-behaved dogs owned by knowledgeable, responsible owners. Part of me wishes there was a mandatory ‘dog owner’s driving license’. Then again, that too would be a very messy process.

Should a cyclist have to apply for a driving license, a skate border, should you have a license to own or have a mobile phone??? No of course we shouldn't. Owners of dogs rightly should be punished by the justice system if they allow their dog (s) to run a mock cause injuries to others...but a driving license is another form of taxation under the label of license and this will not stop irresponsible owners and way ward dogs. The political class who deemed the XL Bully ban necessary are the same kinda political types who push firearm bans based of watching an action movie that depicts bad guys with big guns...that leads to firming their uneducated opinion on firearms, XL Bully type dogs nd parachuting et el activities will one day end up on their list as apparently dangerous and needs to be banned!

Basically the owner a woman was being pulled and had no control over the dog and it was plainly obvious the dog had no training. I’ve got a bull terrier but when the xl got inches away from me my dog who was a working dog new exactly what to do he was protecting me and the xl paid the price for a bad owner. To say it was horrible was an understatement but was over quickly. Now if you got a xl it has to be trained like all dogs and there are some that are. But time and time again I see owners walking around with only one thing in mind intimidation walking with pride with chains on the dog which is always pulling and it’s these owners that have made the dogs pay the price and it’s always the dogs that do. Do I think some owners should not have these, yes but there are many that trained should keep them if trained properly. Most young owners got these dogs for intimidation and with all dogs this country needs to step up on the law of just owning a dog. It’s a mess out there put in the time and get your dog trained properly! What ever the breed. And lastly stay of your phone when walking your dog should be law.

  • I've been become a bit mixed abour this recently. My sister's neighbours own a Belgian malinois who gets plenty of exercise and is clearly a happy and well rounded dog, they also had an xl bully, not from a young puppy but from about 8 months I believe, and for over a year the dog was completely fine no indication of aggression. Suddenly the dog attacked their malinois over some food which as far as I'm aware never happened before, one of the owners stepped up as you would and the dog started to attack her, and this wasn't a bit, this was a maul, seemingly out of nowhere. Blood all over the house until she locked herself away fron the dog and she was lucky to keep her toes. They put the dog down and i don't blame them. I have grown up with bully type breeds (staffies, American bulldogs, and I've also known a couple of pits despite them being illegal here) and I've personally always known them to be great with people but not great with other dogs. I have heard of other xl bullies specifically attacking out of nowhere and that is terrifying to think about, I'm sure most are lovely but something genetically seems to have gone wrong. My issue with the ban though is that genetics mean nothing it's all about measurements. Same problem with the pit ban, dogs that are not actually apart of the breed are getting punished, and you can have papers or dna testing done and it won't matter to them. The other issue is that banning dogs has been proven not to even work, and they are not doing anything to punish people who create fighting dogs, meaning that banning these breeds just means they'll either illegally keep them and breed them or they'll move onto a different breed like the American bulldog, which is very close to my heart and sadly they have been on the potential ban list before

I got bit by my friends bully because the dog has no discipline or self control purely due to the owners lack or responsibility. I feel like a lot of people don’t understand how dogs need stimulation and positive reinforcement to be well behaved animals. It’s frustrating cause they complain how they can’t have people over because of the dog without realizing that themselves, as the owners created this problem. Some people just shouldn’t own animals in general and that’s not the animals fault.

And with a „breed“ (I don’t consider XL bullies a valid breed) that has the market thrive and power behind it…shit will hit the fan. Just like with all the other hype breeds at their peek times, the puppy mills will run on warp speed and the breed will suffer and people will end up with the wrong dogs. Visually Impressive otherwise completely lackluster. And the „bad“ people will switch to other breeds again, they always have pits became amstaffs moved to Rottweilers to Dobermans (who got switched out soon as they aren’t that easy to keep as the others) to doggo Argentinos and cane corsos and now every one of „that type“ owns kangals.

The one that makes them lovely, family friendly doggies one second, the next fraction of a second makes them want to murder you? If my Dobermann (or any other dog) wants to misbehave, there are tell-tale signs (low tail, closed mouth, potential growl, very still etc) but these XL bullies don't indicate; they just decide to go for you, with no signalling. Surely we want to breed that out of the dog population?

Every big staffie/small mastiff owner ran the gauntlet of being stopped by police and having your dog taken away for a "police dog expert" to access and measure certain things like head size, height etc. They also judged it's behaviour after ripping it away from it's owner and some of the most friendly dogs in the world would act the same way, but if any aggression was shown, most were put down regardless of breed. Many dogs were put down mistakenly all those years ago. I can see it happening again very soon.

Maybe mandatory training for owners of dogs above 10 kegs (because one can lift those little ones up if they become naughty.) for years, muzzles have been compulsory on public transport in many European countries. I had a mini poodle whose whole head went into the smallest muzzle available, but on the tram in Vienna, it was a must. I agree with you that the law was going to be passed. This government is not interested in consultations. But I disagree with giving up the fight against silly, useless bans. External characteristics are not what matters. Owners doing their job properly matters. Thanks for your messages encouraging people.

    • There is another problem, though, and that's the breeders. Dogs are big business, and it's very easy to make money from puppies if there's a popular breed. Trouble is XLs originally had all their aggressive traits bred out of them, but are now getting them bred back in due to breeders who don't know or don't care what they're doing. People then buy these puppies without having a clue what they're inviting into their home. They can do all the right things, training-wise, but still end up with a dog that, once it's grown up, has the potential to snap and rip a child's face off. It's a ticking time bomb, basically. So it's a bit more complex than "it's the owner's fault."

    • I truly feel people should be held accountable for not training a large or small dog properly. My pitbull comes to work with me everyday and people are scared and that's ok. But my baby will not go past a certain point so that if you don't want to pet her you don't have to to come near her. But she will throw her toys at you to try to win you over
