  • great video and a really cool setup. I actually think the curved piece might be hurting your dust collection, I know its to keep the airflow close to the saw, but i think its also acting as a deflector guiding the chips up and away from the vacuum ports before the suction can slow them down. if you just had the square box with the downdraft the chips wouldn't have such an easy path out and many would hit the back top, slowing them down and letting the suction grab hold

  • That's a mighty fine chop station ya got there. I like that stop block track system, clean and simple. I think a nice addition would be to inlay a ruler on each side, one that reads left to right and one that reads right to left. Because even with all that storage, you know damn well you're gonna find yourself searching for that tape measure that likes to always disappear.

I can tell the dude knows what he´s doing, but things like building doors too big and then sanding them down until they fit seems like implementing extra steps to use more tools, because it´s more fun. I always just used to buid them to size.

  • I love the grain and edge detail you paid attention to for your cabinets. I'm always blown away by woodworkers on KZhead ignoring details like that. For your dust collection though I can't help but feel like you would have way more success in terms of overall dust capture if you brought the dust collection in from the top since your current design is fighting the natural upward flow of the miter saw's dust port.

  • Just stumbled on your channel, love it so far. I would recommend a face plate for the dust box, cut out just enough that your saw comes through it freely (use cardboard for an easy template). The better enclosed that box is, the more suction you will have for the dust to be pulled in.

And probably fairly expensive when they were being sold so dont be an ass because someone talks about festool or sawstop, or woodpecker, or kreg..... cause they are built off of a need seen in the market, and also to make certain things easier

  • John. Love your videos and yet another great project. If you pause your video at 9:28, you'll see that the small black deflector installed on your saw is kicking the dust upward, away from your new dust collection. If you can, I'd remove that deflector. Also, you have a lot of open area for dust collection with all of your slots, which slows down the air velocity, and actually decreases the effective collection area of your dust collection. I know, sounds counter intuitive but trust me, I do air handling engineering in my everyday job. I'd try using some masking tape to cover a few of your slots to see if you can get the air velocity increased, which will give you better dust collection. Good luck, and keep the videos coming! Bill

  • I had an Uncle who LOVED eating lemons, and an occasional raw onion. As strange as it may sound, both are jam packed with antioxidants, and no, I would never eat either. 25:50 I think the handicap in your dust collection is the slots you cut in the plywood to serve as a grill for the duct collection. It does look very restrictive, the slots are fairly narrow and pretty widely spaced out.. I would cut that entire section of plywood out, route in a rabbet, maybe 1/4 inch deep and 1/2 to 3/4 inch wide, whatever works best for you, around the edge of the new hole, and lay in a piece of expanded steel (get it at any hardware store or big box store) and secure it with a few screws. Your dust collection will greatly improve.

  • On your vacuum system for your saw; have you thought about using a dedicated dust collector specifically for the saw so you only have the one port instead of using the dust collection system that goes throughout the whole shop; or install some inline duct fans (brushless) in the duct work to increase the air flow??????
