Episode 133: Virtual Pro Wrestling 2 (Nintendo 64)
Virtual Pro Wrestling 2: Ōdō Keishō (バーチャル・プロレス2 〜王道継承〜) is a professional wrestling video game released in 2000 for the Nintendo 64 game console. The game was only released in Japan and is the sequel to 1997's Virtual Pro Wrestling 64. The subtitle, Ōdō Keishō, translates to English as Royal Road Succession, which is also the name of the game's single player mode.
Two Tokyo domes? Big Dave gives it 20 stars.
Fun Fact: the Kamala in this game isn’t the same Kamala from the WWF/WWE. That Kamala is the second one portrayed by Ben Peacock who went under the name Uganda.
The Kamala in this game was in ECW, I think.
Fun fact: You are cocs ukher. And home oh. And wig harr.
You really helped reinvigorate my interest in wrestling again and you tend to reply to youtube comments faster than a Smackdown 2 loading screen. Excited whenever you upload!
Haha! Thanks man.
Agreed.
Mike Awesome in an AKI game is something I didn’t know I wanted and now I want it bad
You can create him in No Mercy. I did!😎
He’s awesome to play with. A personal favorite.
He was gonna be in the All Japan roster section under his "Gladiator" name but he left for ECW after doing an All Japan tour. Thats why his model is barely change in the name besides the texts on his trunks.
@@ThrashAD720 hes in the FMW roster
@@dannycruz5446 I know but he was gonna be under the All Japan under The Gladiator name. You can find audio clip of the announcer calling him The Gladiator in the games file.
Here’s some other stuff about the game you might’ve missed. The Great Muta has his own reversal slot labeled heel (if you try to power bomb him, he can reverse it by hitting you with the mist when he’s on your shoulders). There’s promos you can do before and after the match by holding any of the yellow buttons (after the entrances and after the match).
Thank you for sharing that. I love Muta. I played as him and Takada all the time on VPW 1.
Bro, how do you do that muta reversal?
@@nathanieltovar5171 hey I’m just seeing this. For me it’s easier just PowerBombing Muta until he reverses it. As long as it’s not a PowerBomb finisher and just the strong grapple I think he should just reverse it
@Latino_Lariat I finally figured it out
Home ohs.
Your videos got me back into N64 gaming, same childhood memories across the world for so many of us. Mucho Love Brother!
The N64 is my favorite console of all time, there is just something special about it and it is extremely convenient to pick up and play in 2021!
@@NikateeN True
The greatest pro wrestling game of all time, quoting the words of Aj Styles.
The Nekomancer is home oh cocs ukher.
The level of detail put into this game is kind of crazy. I had a few moments were I pulled off a unique counter with some old indie wrestler that only they had in their moveset, like Hakushi's backflip kick.
You can also create more AJPW wrestlers in the creation suite due to their names and attires being in the caw. Naomichi Marifuji Yoshinobu Kanemaru Tamon Honda It’s similar to the ps1 Smackdown games where you didn’t unlock certain wrestlers, you unlocked pieces of them and had to put them together yourself!
Okay, that's really cool! Makes me want to play my old wrestling games all over again and have some fun.
What great timing! Was just on a binge of your old videos.
You binge cocs.
If the weapons would have stayed onscreen after dropping them in this one, then we could have had an awesome Death Match mode. I'd like to imagine a full on Death Match mode would have happened if we ever got a VPW 3
i always wondered why the hell we never got another All Japan game, aside from the PWN/AJPW/NJPW Political stuff that, for as much as i love some of the matches and wrestlers in that era, i know very little of anything of substance about
@@bulletchains8205 There were two AJPW games on Dreamcast called Giant Gram available. Also Natsume Championsip on SNES was an AJPW game to start with.
@@KendallMcNeilClark actually there were 3 not 2 of these wrestling games for the Dreamcast!🎮🕹️🎮
Loving the new intro! NIKATEEN GANG!

I’m surprised you dont have a Patreon. You deserve to be compensated for the years of entertainment you have provided us.
Thanks man, I do appreciate that. I finally monetized my videos this year which has provided a little money that I’ve been able to put back into the product by purchasing these expensive import games and such. Next on my list to find it Def Jam: Fight for New York!
@@NikateeN love Fight For NY
@@NikateeN good luck hope you can find it cheap somewhere man!
@@NikateeN good luck bought it for 55 bucks at my local game store. Had to have them order it too.
I just discovered this game a few days ago through my handheld emulator and it's far and away the greatest wrestling game I've ever played. I REALLY like No Mercy and WM2000 but this feels timeless in a way those two don't, probably because of its roster and the era it represents.
Hands down the best wrestling game ever made. It’s better than No Mercy. It truly is.
I wholeheartedly agree.
I put "revenge" over No mercy
I’m going to find this, but until I play it, Giant Gram is still my favorite and the best wrestling game.
Ya can keep the Diggity dog in your menu
@@jiovanysoltero923 “ is cooking”
I love clones. I hope the No Mercy director working on the AEW game with Yuke's suggest putting some puro clones. Something about playing as those stars felt better knowing AKI put some tlc into replicating their movesets. Even if they don't Yuke's was always good at providing preset movesets and entrances back in the day. I'd really love to see a AKI/Yuke's man-type character.
I actually created a Yukes Man in WWE 2k17 or 18 (forget which, but both had a ton of premade Yuke's logos). His entrance attire was a Ribera Steakhouse jacket and I think I even made him his own "Future Media Creators" championship. I think I might have been stoned.
@@planetschlock Wow really? That's bad ass haha I gotta see it now. Did it have an alternative gi? 🌝
@@EasyE3939 Sadly no, just his default yellow, black and orange bodysuit.

I'm going to need to check this one out. That mask editor is such a cool feature! WCW/nWo Revenge was my favorite game based on this engine.
Happy Easter, Nik. The perfect gift in my basket!

Great to see you covering VPW2 finally!
15:24 Nikateen Greatest Hits Vol. I Oh, that NBA Jam and Hang On GP tunes, I loved them. Never played this game even when I used to play the WWF Aki titles on N64 emulator a lot, but it's really interesting. Great review.
You’re good at picking out the tunes!
@@NikateeN Thanks, buddy!
This is personally my favorite wrestling game of all time. So much fun and nostalgia.
It's also Aj styles favorite
Lol the Disciple clip memory flashback had me rolling.
I really wish I got to experience N64 games, sadly I just missed out as a kid.
Well you can always enjoy the N64 now. I grew up in that era, but was too busy with my PS1 but now I'm going back and enjoying some great N64 games that I missed back then. I just added this wrestling game, no mercy, sin and punishment, and mischief Makers to my N64 collection
Check em out via emulators. The game play still holds up!
Bro I talked you a while back about this and I bought got it Friday and I’ve been playing this non stop!! It’s a great game! Wish I had this as a kid. And I even willing to say that it’s a step ahead of no mercy. Those mma setting is badass! Mind blown on this thanks again
Congrats on picking it up!
Hey man you got me wanted to recollect all the wrestling games so thank you tons for making awesome videos
Just rediscovered this game tonight. Really really great game. Had 1st time playing royal succession road. Tons of fun. Real challenging AI for sure. I used to play this on expert level but now on hard as I find it faster gameplay. Thanks for the great review.
This series is great, thanks for all the effort :).
Dude, your production values have always been good, but they've really stepped up a notch in the last couple years. Thanks for the years of entertainment! (and now I think I gotta pick this game up!)
Thanks Nigel! I appreciate the kind words.
Watching this on my lunch break at work today and Happy Easter
Happy Easter dude!
4:21 I did not see that coming. Well done.
VPW2 and the AKI WCW games are the most fun for me, IMO. Godlike roster and gameplay for both.
This sounds amazing. Wish it was available to play easily on consoles nowadays.
Well, it isn't difficult... provided you have a little cash to spend and an address at which you can receive mail. PAL N64? Available for purchase online. NJPW2? Available for purchase online. OR You could just download and play the English translated version on your PC, if it's powerful enough to run an N64 emulator like Dolphin. And that won't cost a damned thing!
I've been playing it on emulator for over 10 years now
Got my copy of one this one is next glad to see you Monetized
Of course most of the people use the original tracks from Wrestlemania 2000. Kinda like Revenge. A face sounding track and a heel sounding one.
Thank you for the upload bro! And Happy Easter! Hope u spend it well with ur family.
Thanks Junior! Same to you man, hopefully you can enjoy the day with your loved ones, and Happy Easter!
I'm not scrolling through 74 comments but just in case no one has mentioned it before there is a rom hack of this game called freem edition. It has an English patch for the game and many other wrestlers that were not in the game such as Goldberg Mr perfect Kane undertaker etc. The ROM hack works on real N64 hardware. There's a video on KZhead about it by "better gamer"
I’ve seen this, but I wasn’t aware it could be used on the hardware. Would it be through an Everdrive?
@@NikateeN Yes. "Bebettergamer" uses an ever drive and records all of his gameplay on actual hardware. Scumbags online have sold the ROM on actual cartridge form. But I don't recommend doing that because the creator of the ROM hack discourages that.
I really hope I can get a copy of this game, it looks so awesome. Great video, man.👍
Thanks, Alec!
new to the channel this is my second video, very good content friend, with the nostalgia man keep up the great work
Thanks!
Awesome review and I just ordered English translation repro copies of both Virtual Pro Wrestling 1&2 a week ago and watching this video make me want to play them even more.
Looks good, but who wants to play a game with wrestlers that are only known by Dave Meltzer?
There’s thousands of people who know pretty much all of them
Home oh.
I enjoy this video man!
Ah you finally made the video. I love this game. The roster, the moves the career mode. It’s all awesome. Glad you enjoyed it and awesome job mentioning what made it so amazing. Love the channel and reviews. As a huge fan of AJPW in the 90s this game rocks. Great video!
Thanks!
I absolutely loved this game, payed alot back in the day to have it.
As someone who has been watching your videos since your early days on KZhead many years ago, I can tell how much your reviews have improved! Great camera quality in 60 fps with superb mic capture (audio), the right ammount of hummor and being very informative. Your editing skills have improved a lot as well, always with great gameplay footage. They were already good back then, thats why I imediatly became a follower, but they are just getting better and better. Thank you very much for all the content for all these years! I wish you and your family the best! You seem to be such a cool dude, I really like your voice, so maybe bring more let's play, without editing much. I'd love to watch them and it would not take much of your time. About the game: I have exactly the same opinion! Due to nostalgia and being more of a WCW fan, WCW vs NWO Revenge is still my favorite! But to people claming this to be the best Wrestling game ever, I cannot go against it. It is bloated with content, huge roster and great gameplay!
Thanks a lot for the kind words! I appreciate the continued support.
Nice vid to close the day.
I honestly prefer Virtual Pro Wrestling 64 to the sequel. Alone the fact that it's a extended WCW vs. nWo World Tour (such a epic game, to the best wrestling Era for me of all time) is for me a plus. World Tour has the better soundtrack, way better and cooler comic graphic (the graphic of the AKI ones since WCW/nWo Revenge look crappy). I always preferred the more simplicity of World Tour. Also is my love to WCW/nWo and WWF/E Wrestling(games) so big that I not really need this game here. It is interesting, but for me it's definitely more nice to know, than anything else. Great review nonetheless. 👍😉
i’m gonna be honest… i got this game mostly for Hayabusa. for those who don’t know: Eiji Ezaki was a Japanese wrestler who was known for his balance of Mat and Aerial attacks, mythical entrance theme, and unique appearance. He was part of Frontier Martial-Arts Wrestling, or FMW for short, created by Atsushi Onita(another unlockable in the game). When Onita left, Hayabusa became the face of the company, and as a new generation approached, so did a new crowd thanks to Hayabusa. Sadly in 2001, during a match against Mamoth, Hayabusa lost his footing during a springboard moonsault and suffered a career ending injury, bring along the end of FMW and to make matters worse, after he finally started to show great signs of recovering, and regaining full use of his legs, in 2016, Eiji Ezaki passed away. And even to this day, Hayabusa’s legacy is felt all around ranging from Seth Rollins using the Phoenix Splash and Falcon Arrow (moves Hayabusa invented) to Mysterious Q’s mask taking inspiration of Hayabusa’s mask even NJPW star Will Osprey was given the blessing to wear Hayabusa’s gear at a PPV. So to say Hayabusa was a legend is a major understatement, and is why I love this game more than WCW/nWo Revenge.
Man I wish my N64 still worked because I wanna play some Rasslin Games!!
Lol, that song at the end was awesome...yeah!

Bro I spent like 75.00 on eBay like a decade ago importing the game and the adapter to work on the US N64... It is the best wrestling game of all time. The japanese announcer makes each match seem so legit.

Well that's it, this channel has reached the PINNACLE of reviews! Best wrestling game reviewer of allllll tiiiiiimmmmeee! Great job buddy! You da man! 👍👌✌

Loved the intro. This really is the greatest wrestling game of all time. It really improved over what the American games were. The roster is incredibly mindblowing. This game actually held a Guinness World Record for the biggest wrestling game roster. You can really tell there was a massive amount of attention to detail and love put into the game. I miss AKI and Yukes. They really should come back and make wrestling games again. Without them, wrestling games could have been very different. Fun fact: This is AJ Styles favourite wrestling game of all time.
Personally I say Fire Pro returns on PS2 (and its 325 wrestlers) is the greatest wrestling game ever, but this is a very very close second! 👍👍👍

All of the Nintendo 64 games I believe that was one of the best game systems for wrestling I love The brood entrance I did that with undertaker and Mask kane with undertaker ministry of darkness theme that was the best ever you
I wish they would come out with more wrestling games like especially for create mode different colors and mask wrestlemania 2000 and no Mercy one of my all-time favorites if they ever make a retro system where you can play it I still would do buy it and play
I got my cartridge converter and the game arrived yesterday. I now have a physical copy and it is awesome!

I love this game, when i found out about it, I ordered it on ebay from japan and since it didn't fit in my american n64 I heat up a knife on the stove and surgically removed the edges off the carthridge to make it fit. 😂😂😂😂 it is awesome I translated all the names of the wrestlers. and i figured out the translation of everything menus, etc and I love using the MMA rules matches those are great, and the many MMA fighters on it. my favorite fighter in DR. WCW NWO Revenge was the best wrestling game ever as far as controls!
I just bought this! Yes!
I was able to get WCW/NWO World Tour & Revenge and WWF Wrestlemainia 2000 for 10$ all together at a clearance rack at a used dvd store but any recommendations on what type of n64 console to get that is compatible with Japanese games? I’m a ps2 and Xbox kid as I grew up with those two consoles til I got my ps5 a few months ago but should be a great video

I've been playing the VPW 2 freem edition now for awhile and I love it. These No Mercy mods id love to be smart enough to install and play them.
Lol, same here.
I played this game once on my phone ages ago but for some reason couldn't get into it as much as VP64 (maybe cause of the lack of English in the game? Idk). But after seeing this review it makes me wanna boot it up again on my Everdrive 64 and play it on my N64 on that, with that you need no converter heh. This seems like a fantastic and fun game and that roster is very impressive to me just looking at the names.

This game is in my top 5!!! Also, you left out 1 feature that no other game has... So when your wrestler came to the ring, holding down one of the C buttons allowed you to do verbal (written) taunts before the match (that you could customise for each wrestler)
