►A charity has said three million people can't afford to put their heating on this winter. Right now there are freezing temperatures across Great Britain, with a weather warning in England because they're so unseasonably low. The Joseph Rowntree foundation say people are terrified at the prospect of not being able to pay for heating, food, and warm clothing at the same time. Catherine Jacob has been finding how people in Sheffield are coping.

I've been there for 28 years and the council are quick enough to take your money but do nothing to make the house livable. They have done absolutely nothing to my house for all of the 28 years I have been living there. Massive cracks everywhere on every wall and ceiling also on the outside walls. The mould is terrible, the windows don't fit properly not do the doors so it's freezing. I have 3 bedrooms upstairs and they can't really be used because of the damp and the cold. I neally died from getting pneumonia once so I cannot risk sleeping upstairs. I have slept on my sofa downstairs for 8 years now. I am also disabled as well and even tho the council pay my rent they give me £180 to live on a week to live on but that's a pittance over here because everything is way more expensive over here compared to England. Our cheapest bread if is £1.65 and our milk is £1.45 a litre. No cheap shops at all. The cheapest clothes shop we have is New Look. So expensive to live here. Our cheapest supermarket is the Co-op. • @Calmlocket Hi im shocked! 😯 £500 rent a week..bloody hell. We don't have council anything over here. We call your council the States of Guernsey. The states for short. So the States own my states house and they are the biggest power in Guernsey. So if I have a problem in my states house I have to call the states to come and look at it. So basically I have to complain about my states house to the states housing. I complain about them to them lol. There is no one higher and if they need to find money for anything ie road repairs they put our rent up. So my rent is £334 but if my adult kids move back in with me they would be charged £80 each on top of the £344 rent. It's a law over here that states owned property must have fire doors but most of us don't and there's nobody that can make them. I cannot believe you pay £500 a week. Bring in some income to help with the utility bills and also not have to heat the house while at work?? I'm 68 years old and that's what I do.
