I've had to send several dogs to the shelter to free up more "try for baby" space. This would have made me upset, except I really don't find the pets in sims 4 that interesting. Even with the mod to control pets, they're really just a nuisance.

My personal rule of thumb: no Sims 4 expansion is worth more than $20.
i got it on sale 50%, and it's still not worth it. A complete waste of money this pack was. EPs are getting worse and at the same time GPs and SP are getting better. At this point a GP offers more or as much as an EP.
RememberRox Yeah, that's pretty on the nose. The only EP I really found to be somewhat worthwhile was Get to Work, which I felt had some improvements in terms of the career system over its TS3 Ambitions counterpart. It just seems like they're simultaneously dragging their feet and dropping the ball with these expansions. Some like to argue they're taking their time with them, but judging by what we've been getting that doesn't seem the case.

I recently got Sims 4 + Cats and dogs for something like £30 on Origin when it was that 50% sale for 18yrs of Sims or whatever. But yeah on it's own I can't see the EP being worth much but as a bundle I thought it was alright since I can make families with pets from the get go rather then wait years for it to show up lol.

okay but what if they made the loading screens look like your sim sitting in a car or train or something? like maybe traveling between lots it would be your sim driving a car an traveling between towns they'd sit in a train. And they would have like minimum animation ex.g.laughing or reading a book? I mean i guess the loading screens aren't that big of a deal but it would be kinda cool

@@CuriosoMundos Agree. In Sims 2 I never went anywhere outside the house, because it was too annoying to sit through the loading screen. It wasn't worth it when I'd only be able to spend a couple hours at the other lot due to my needs getting in the way. The last thing I want is to go back to that. Now that EA has given us more, I EXPECT more. I think that's pretty fair if they want us to spend hundreds of dollars on a game we already owned. At this point they're literally charging us for SEVERAL new games and barely giving us ONE new game worth of content. I can't believe people are falling for it, honestly.

i don't mind the loading screens I hate that if I arrive at a bar or whatever, they then start appearing and doing stuff. wich is kinda... lame.. like they open the shop/bar when I arrive. a lot that is so annoying are the constant calls every 2 min. oh come let's go to the club at 2pm. 🙄
I played a few games in Sims 3 while only controlling cats and letting the humans do their own thing. Having pets be playable doesn't force you to play them. Having them be unplayable just limits players who would like to control them.
I actually like it that their not playable. Gives me challenge to take care of them.
@@jeromealday614 I refer you to the original point made: It's not fair to stop EVERYONE from being able to play their pets, whether they want to or not, on the basis that SOME people apparently don't have the self control to just not control their pet. You had the choice in previous titles to not control your pet if you wanted the extra challenge. Now NO ONE has a choice. That's not better, it's worse. They've removed player choice from the equation.

Without a doubt thats the reason, the rEApers (As I like to call them) are scummy and greedy. Their company name Electronic Arts is as far from real art as humanly possible. TS4 isn't unfun but it's basically a rehash of old content but watered down with age.

I agree about the interface thing. Without any UI related to pets, it makes them seem like objects, not members of the family.

The part I can't stand is that there is no way to tell what relationship one animal has with another, and no way to force interactions. I keep trying to mate two cats together, but they don't like each other and I guess they never will.

Samantha Norton Can you use the "Be nice to..."? That is supposed to make your pet friendly towards someone. I would do that a lot and then later encourage them to mate (which really is a bit creepy that you can x) ).

Black Sheep72 Same here, always been more of a cat person. I literally lost my cat (as in stolen), even though she was hardly in peak condition or a rare/valuable breed. But I missed her unique personality and still do to this day over 10 years later. She always seemed to prefer my company to anyone else which I found odd but I guess she clearly just felt comfortable with me for some reason. So I too totally understand how humble it can be to recreate a pet, especially if you can emulate his/her personality traits.
Pictured is now 18 and still going well, I feel so lucky, but yer I've had a few cats over my many many years.

We never had cats, only dogs. Our dog turned 13 years old when he passed away. For a boxer that is a old age as they tend to get around 10 years old. Grew up with that dog, lost him when i was 15 and now that has been more then half a life time away for me and i still miss him every day. Once a pet goes into your heart they will never leave again.
My one year old dog passed away on February 15th ;(
At this point I feel like there is absolutely no 'heart' left in The Sims franchise anymore. They hardly listen to players anymore, and they leave out things that worked in previous Sims before...They are just putting these games out now and don't even care about them anymore.
I love corgis I wouldn't say that their COMPLETELY turning a deaf ear on their customers (because they did come out with toddlers, pools, pets, etc. After everyone begged and bugged them abour it). Its just that their not putting any effort in their franchise anymore.

Toddlers and Pools is due to their game getting horrible rep if they hadn't tried to save face, or bad time management. Idk if it's the team or simply EA forcing them to rush, but EA make them cut down their game and rerelease packs from previous games to make more money. The complete Sims 3 was like 200 bucks for the FULL game. I don't think that counted stuff packs. Without its expansions Sims 3 was definitely not a complete game, and just wasn't very fun. By comparison, 4 is garbage even with "expansions". They have to release things the size of Into the Future or Island Paradise before it'll pick up.
i really want to see a game pack with farm animals and horses. not a whole new expansion pack, just a gamepack where my sims can be lil farmers with cows and goats. also, there should be an update where ea adds rodents, birds etc. if someone has this ep....

Yeah same, I would really love this pack. Its gonna be fun trying to recreate my cat in Sims. And also, I've always wanted a dog. So a border collie would be nice.
I like the idea of not being able to control the pets too, however, I think it should have been optional. This is a god type game, and as the 'god' of this world, I'd expect to have control over the pets if I wanted to. It's not like controlling eight people at once is realistic either, so that shouldn't be used as an excuse for not controlling pets in my opinion.
And there's so many times where my dog will just, stand, for hours. It's creepy and breaks my immersion lol
Take advantage of mods before they remove the ability to mod their games hoping it would drive up sales of the expansions since theres no one else that provides the game with content.. Also, yes. I know this is 2 years old.

I agree completely. Sucked me in for a couple hours and then I was wanting more from the game. Just seems very incomplete to me. I would have liked to see them incorporate festivals in the city for the pets, and the obstacle course seemed useless unless there was some type of competition they could enter.

It's such a shame that The Sims 4 has such potential and they only release such few little content. There could be so many ideas like car racing, farms, amusement parks and we just keep getting the same expansion packs with less content. The Sims 4 is so disappointing!

Woohoo yet another honest review! Yeah I fully agree on the given information thing. Although I like that it gives you more challenge on taking care of pets, you can't even check on information as simple as their age. And the asking price are too high which is a bit disappointing because of the great but not big enough content it offers.

I really wish they would have done more with the veterinarian options. As someone who works as a veterinary assistant in a vet clinic, I would have loved to see the career be more realistic. Having the sim run tests like fecals or heartworm, or staining and looking at ear swabs under a microscope would have been a really cool feature rather than just occasionally mixing up some liquid in a container. Also, having the pet be more unwilling or rowdy when it comes to not wanting to be put on the examination table would have been exciting, especially if that dog or cat has specific traits that cause them to be a trouble maker. Even taking the dogs and cats to be weighed, or looked at for things like fleas would have made the experience all the more fun and realistic. I just feel like they could have done a lot more with this and instead made up a bunch of stuff and then charged a ton of money for the pack.

Yeah. My 18-year-old cat, Claude, died two months ago, and he was pretty much the exact same age as me. Much to my mother's dislike at the time, he made one of his first appearances at my first birthday and then decided to adopt us. Time to go make him in the Sims 3 :,)

Adam Noyce, My cat is around 5 months old and he is a Ragdoll cat. He has recently almost died, I was very scared and when we brought him to the vet, the vet/nurse told me and my family that he probably won’t make it because he was breathing heavily and fast and very very deep. He was only a baby but guess what? The nurse came to my family with a frown. My first thought Was yup, he’s dead. But a few seconds later she told us, HE SURVIVED! We were all happy. Con is, he’s still very sick and started to cough. We are thinking he has feline asthma but, we wait to see what’s wrong.
Your cat was most likely the happiest cat in the world to have there final moments in the warmth of your arms. But your cat will never be gone and is still with you in your heart.

I wish we could see the cats and dogs family tree. My Sims' cat wanders off, and isn't neutered, so he could have a ton of kittens I don't, and never will, know about. I also don't like that even though I have a doggie door, I still have to ask my dogs to go potty.

Agreed. I feel like they could have done so much more with the expansion. Such as not only having a vet job, but other pet related jobs like a pet trainer or a pet catcher were there is an actual pound you can adopt animals from. There could be options to enter your pets in shows and win ribbons/prizes for them. And of course they could have kept the variety of pets you can chose from and could have added even more. But I do like the fact they added a fox 😊

I was kinda-ish waiting for this pack, but then the price in Brazil jumped from the usual 79,90 BRL for expansions to fucking 149,90 BRL!!1! To add insult to injury, the pack was actually being sold at the regular 79,90 in pre order. I hope EA go down in flames, specially now with the Battlefront 2 lootboxes fiasco.
EA released an official statement about this stating it was a pricing error: simscommunity.info/2017/11/08/price-of-the-sims-4-cats-dogs-has-gone-up-in-brazil-and-norway-2-days-before-release/ But yeah, it's EA, they haven't exactly done anything to earn my trust in regards to things like pricing and good intentions.

The autonomy in Sims 3 always worked perfectly fine for me. I like to be able to control them. I hate that cats in Sims 4 for example can travel on their own without me having the option to know where they went and what they're doing. They do this even without that trait so yes it's aggravating for me because I can't call them back. I don't like that I can't see their needs, relationships and especially age. I also don't like that they take in a spot for a sim. I think I'm one of the few people that actually likes the sims 3 pets the best

Personally, I have done buying TS4 packs. I spent a lot of money and the sims are not really controllable, I really don't enjoy playing it and I started playing TS3 again. Toddlers are well done, ok, but they keep deleting actions and doing basically what they want and, in the end, more of a challenge it became unnerving. I'm gonna wait for TS5, hoping EA will sell the licence to some other developing team. Thanks for the review. I enjoy your reviews a lot, you're funny and very smart. Sorry about the loss, here there's another one who understands the sentiment entirely.
Amen to that the sims 4 is an embarrassment all in it shelf. The sims 3 was so much more funner even though there was bugs and crashes at times hey it was funner. I even loved the sims 2 A LOT and that game was fun =]

when you talked about your cat, it made me emotional. i love cats, they deserve the world.
hearing about getting to play with your cat one last time is such a bittersweet sentiment, hits really close to home. that’s the one thing i like about the sims four, you can make sims and pets so accurate to people you know that it feels like they’re real. it’s comforting when you’re lonely and they really feel more real and alive sometimes.
I really like this EP, just wish there was more than only cats and dogs. Not even horses, just small pets like bunnies and guinea pigs would make it so much more variable.

The thing that really upsets me is that they limit this EP to cats and dogs only, because they wanted them to be in-depth, while we can't even see their age! When EA says things like this, actually make them in-depth or don't say it. For the rest the EP seems pretty nice. CAP looks awesome and I like the new world too. And the build/buy looks amazing! I think I'm gonna wait for a sale or something though. It is not worth the €40 to me. But I do find it a worthy addition to the game :)

I actually did get this pack for $20 by waiting for the Christmas sale on Origin :’) I also got most of the sims 3 packs for $5 on steam sales
I couldn't agree more - it's fun but once again it feels 'half-baked'. The animals are fun but after a few hours, I was honestly starting to get bored and actually started to see them as rehashed babies. As for the pet stuff... how are there only two pet beds and a handful of toys when there are EIGHT CHAIRS? Chairs are important, sure, but it's; literally called 'Cats & Dogs' and yet the stuff actually available for these animals is, in my opinion, very limited. Considering it took them a whole year to release, I just feel like they got lazy. If they put as much detail into the rest of the pack as they did for the breeds (I must say, I was impressed by how many they'd created) I feel we would all be much more satisfied. I'm terribly sorry to hear about your cat, Clint. I hope you got a little joy out of playing with it again virtually. Lots of love x

I would have preferred it if they left most of the breeds out and let the community create them, there's more fun in trying to sculpt a border collie from scratch then just selecting one from the giant list. More items would have been a great trade off. I also wish they would fix the sim lag, my first experience in the game was to direct my sim to introduce themselves to a cat on the street and it took 6 attempts because my sim would just stand there and do nothing for several game hours. This happens with pretty much every interaction in the game now. the game is almost unplayable at this stage.... literally, it does not play!!! - anyone else have this issue? I know theres a lag mod but not sure if its been updated to accommodate pets yet.

Why does EA connect pets expansion towns and Autumn? They did that with the Sims 3 Pets town too!
EmiTV I think it’s because it’s animals and animals are associated with farms and we typically think of farms during the autumn because of the harvest. Not to mention it’s autumn right now I’m the northern hemisphere so for a lot of people it probably feels nice since we don’t have seasons atm.
I still can't believe EA didn't give you a review copy, also did anyone notice how small Brindleton bay actually is? it's only 16 lots and only 3 households, thats smaller than the base game worlds. not to mention there are more human beds then pet beds in this pack. definitely left more to be desired.

QUICK QUESTION: Is the Sims4 team the same as the Sims 3 team? Cause the Sims 4 as a whole SUCKS. Why are they getting everything so wrong this time around when they got most things right last generation? I NEVER felt cheated from the stuff or expansion packs from sims 3. With 4, EVERYTHING that comes out feels like its unfinished. It has to be due to something internally cause its like they no longer care about their consumer. And another note, I'm tired of watching their release events of them acting all super excited to present shitty unfinished content. HOW CAN YOU BE EXCITED WHEN YOU KNOW YOU GAVE BETTER CONTENT LAST GEN?! They need to just give us seasons, forget about 4, and focus solely on making sure sims 5 isn't a complete pile of hot garbage like this is.

It is mostly the same team the problem is that EA forced them to work with a new engine which already took a cut from the whole budget but they also didn't have any experience with the engine cause its so different. And it also didn't help that EA pushed the game out the door far too early it's highly probable that if they had another year we'd have pools, pool chairs, toddlers, ghosts, and more on launch. Not only that but open world and cast would also be there probably
this is an old comment but whatever: sims 4 is on catch up because of the previous CEO of EA who wanted all these games to be online. simcity collapsed and was abandoned because of it, sims 4 barely made it out alive because the team has been working hard to fix what would've killed them (they had one year to switch from a multiplayer game to a regular sims sandbox game, which is why toddlers and pools and ghosts were left out initially). they're fighting against an engine built for an online environment. they're finally doing very well again and is pulling in more profit, EA is finally giving them more attention in their financial reports and gave them a stage event at EA play. it looks like sims 5 finally went in development if the mass hiring at maxis is any indication. i think the team is fantastic, they're truly fixing a game that would've gone the way of simcity and would've killed maxis completely if it wasn't for the talented individuals who saved it. im sure sims 5 will be everything people thought sims 4 was going to be as long as they don't try multiplayer again.
Forgot to mention your Vet employees are almost useless. No one is cleaning when they do its already too late because all the pets will throw up on the floor and every clients will complain about how the place looks. They take ages before treating another patient and when they do, you have time to treat 3-4 different clients before they are done with theirs. If your buying this pack because you want to be a vet. Don't. They will most likely never fix it either.
You must've had some bad experiences. My vet employees are doing pretty good job (Aside from talking to the toilet for 3 hours) and I found it to be the least glitchy and frustrating interactive career out of them all. You actually get shit done and get paid for it, unlike the store, where it takes 6 hours to convince one person to buy a bread lol.

I was disappointed by the vet "career" because all the advertisements made it seem like it was going to be like Get To Work. The lack of stats for pets is very aggravating. I didn't think "you can't control your pets" meant not knowing any sort of info about how their skills are improving etc. There is an option to ask "whats wrong?" with a notification bubble that pops up after to inform what your pet wants and that's it...Regardless I still like the expansion..just a little irked that things weren't completely what I expected. If you haven't purchased it (or fell for the hype of the pre-purchase like I did) I say wait until they have a sale on it and go for it.

yeah, I've seen those pop up, but It doesn't tell you how many times you have to lecture your pet. there is no bar to show progress. That is what is aggravating. Do they ever stop the behavior? because the cats I've played with so far have yet to stop being on counters after many many lectures.
you have to buy a vet clinic you can't simply choose from the job options to be a vet like you can for doctor scientist, and detective. so no, it is not like Get to Work.

Nur Shahirah Yeah, get to work had only 3 careers, Get together felt unnecessary, City living had a very small city to actually interact with and "pets" is cats and dogs. No one would be complaining if Sims 3 hadn't done such big efforts, sure, it was buggy as hell but you got your money's worth
This sums up TS4 perfectly. The entire game and all it's packs all feel rushed despite taking years to be released and the general feel I always get from each new pack is "laziness". Like they just can't be bothered to put in more effort.

I agree with everything you said, I just wish they would give you the option of playing the animals. Maybe have an on off switch in the options menu.

I have the expansion and frankly, what he says is true. It all depends on your play style but I don’t regret purchasing it at all.
yeah but they didnt even waste time to make raccoons and foxes species. even though the literal title of the sims is short for "simulation" you still cant simulate pets. they didnt even waste ANY time making horses or small rodents.
My biggest problem with all of the Sims 4 packs is that they're all very self-contained, like they aren't made to be used together...Like if you put a family with pets into any other "world" than Brindleton bay, there's basically nothing you can do with them... for example, in San Myshuno, they can't hunt or prowl, you have to travel to Brindleton bay if your pets are sick, and there are no empty lots to put a vet's office or training ground or pet park on, unless you delete something else and there are no other pets around unless you give your apartment the "Cat hangout" or "Dog Hangout" trait, and then you have random strays coming into your house and eating your pet's food unless you remember to lock them out, then they just stand by your door and meow or bark incessantly. If you have a family with toddlers, it's impossible to have pes, because unless your sim has no job, they can't take care of the toddlers and the pets at the same time, because both are so needy. It's almost like the pets have no autonomy unless they have the "independent" or "hunter/prowler" traits, and even then, they get into a lot of trouble and get bit and sprayed by skunks constantly when they do...if you're in Brindleton bay, and it's really annoying. Having the "Playable pets" mod helps out a bit, but if you make them go to the bathroom every time using the playable pets mod, they never learn to go outside, so if you don't catch them right when they have to go, they'll still pee or poop in your house.
SoganaxSaeki I love this comment. Even a year after you posted this it still holds true. I RARELY play with pets anymore. I only added one to my family for the realm of magic pack so they could be a familiar. I find pets kind of like babies in the Sims 4, useless. You can't see their needs or age, can't control them. I just seem to forget about them because I'm busy controlling my other sims. And forget about having toddlers and pets. You'll drive yourself crazy. Every time I have a dog in the family they run away like once a week just because I forget about them. All they do is stand around or sleep. No random interactions. If my sims have full autonomy on they should be able to take care of the pet without me controlling every single thing. What's the point of autonomy? I have so many problems with the Sims 4 I can go on for days. Even sims 1 had better pets...

Oh yeah, I forgot about that shit that you could buy with SimPoints. Absolutely ridiculous. What I wanted to point out is that The Sims 4 has only 4 Expansion packs so far (with less content, for example if I compare TS3 Pets vs TS4 Cats and Dogs) and it will cost the same as TS3 + all packs soon enough. I'm curious as to how many Expansion packs are they gonna release for TS4.
Toon M qell sims 4 engine is more flexible to work with meaning it can live a long time wth updates meanwhile sims 3 engin was limited since the base game came out. The game already started lagging after couple of updates came out due to poor engine optimization. Also to note the sims 3 team was wayyy biger than sims 4 team is now which means they dont have enough man power to do all those thing sims 3 team could do
Sims 4 engine is anything but flexible and the packs seem to trigger more universally experienced bugs than Sims 3 ever did. Meaning that Sims 3 has bugs alright, but they sort of took you by surprise and other players didn't necessarily suffer the same ones. And once you tackled them you could continue playing. Sims 4 seems to have bugs that effect everybody and they're not solved until the next patch.

Why does it literally take them more than a year to release an expansion pack?? If they spent less time making shitty stuff packs that no one asked for and more on actual expansions then we would've had seasons by now
EP makers and SP makers are different. Basically while people are making expansion packs, simultaneously there are people making stuff packs to release while there is a lull in the production. But sure, keep on hating

I don't know....I'm starting to lose hope for Seasons and University. Each Sims installment has had 7 EPs, and we have 4...so there is hope that 2 of the last 3 (if they stay on their regular schedule) will be Seasons and University but...I dunno, just doesn't seem likely atm.
Why'd you want an expansion anyway, they've all been mediocre at best. I'm really excited for a seasons exp but honestly I don't think it would be good enough anyway, especially since this pets and dogs exp looks completely MEH. The GP is where it's at. I've gotten more gameplay and fun from the GP than anything else personally. Oh this is my personal opinion sorry if i offended anyone.
