  • Javy would do insane plays like that all the time and somehow they worked. That's why we called him El Mago. In the 2018 Wild Card game, he hugged Nolan Arenado to prevent him from completing a double play. All Arenado had to do was attempt to make the throw and Javy would have been called on interference. For whatever reason, he didn't, and hugged Baez back.

You can see in the clip that he's not looking at the second baseman and doesn't stop when the "trick" happens, but after he looks into the outfield. Lonnie has addressed this and there's even a _Pretty Good_ episode about Lonnie Smith where Jon Bois talks about it.

    @jgray2718@jgray2718 Жыл бұрын
    • The Pretty Good episode actually suggests that Lonnie did it on purpose to throw the game to spite of the GM of the Braves at the time. John Schuerholz. The thing is, we had things pretty much under control so that it would be difficult for someone to gain access to the floor for basketball, the ice (IMPOSSIBLE) for hockey and the stage (also IMPOSSIBLE) at a concert. At the Ballpark, it was easier to gain access to the field but there were sufficient security and APD officers to make any incursion short lived. She wouldn’t take the test and when it was her turn she just started balling and ran out of the classroom. I felt so bad for her but coming to a state ordered alcohol education class absolutely sloshed is such a terrible decision. My guess is she was physically addicted 😬

  • Maybe it doesn't count since it was between games, but Disco Demolition Night in Chicago is one of my favorites. The White Sox did a promotion in 1979 between two games of a double header where they blew up a bunch of disco records in center field to metaphorically kill disco music. The explosion (and hundreds of rowdy fans who stormed the field immediately after it) damaged the field and forced the Sox to forfeit game 2 of the double header.

  • Excellent video as always. The content is great, it's well-researched and the editing is second to none. Disco Demolition and Ten-cent-beer nights too were good in terms of marketing to get fans to the game, but they finished badly so in the end they were pretty dumb. Fun fact about the Marlins 2010 Vuzuelza promotion. Pro players in Japan, Korea, and Taiwan are more used to constant sound due to cheering sections cheering usually during the 9 whole innings. MLB usually doesn't have cheering sections with full bands playing music when teams are playing.

  • I’m really surprised the play that’s not on here was where Juan Segura stole second, then on the next batter started running to 3rd, ran back and ended up standing on 2nd with the runner behind him, thought he was out and started going back to the dugout only to realize he was still safe, so he “tagged up” (?) at 1st. On the next play, he got caught stealing 2nd…a base he had already stolen earlier that inning.
