Well, if you think about it, in a sense, driving is the most dangerous responsibility of all those. You have responsibility over your life and the life at others whenever you're behind wheel. And then of course voting is also important, since you have a say on the country's future. And drinking is a dangerous thing considering alcohol has the potential of altering your mind and perception when drunk. It does really make it seem weird that you need to be 25 to adopt a cat in the US. Or at least in that vet

I feel this, when I went to a shelter I just wanted to see if I connected with any of the fur babies and I walked into the cat room and my baby girl jumped up like “there you are! I’ve been waiting!” And that was that. She is my baby.

Same with my cat. I first saw him on the shelter's website (tiny black fluff ball, he was left there as a kitten) and thought he looked cute. Ended up going to the shelter trusting that a least one cat would choose me, and this black cat just follows me everywhere while purring. Same cat, just five months older. I left with him on the same day, and he's been with me for six years now.

I think it's because having a pet is a huge financial responsibility and at 25, you would (hopefully) be out of school and working. I also think if you're under 25 perhaps a parent can help you sign the paperwork. But I'm glad if someone vouches for you, the rules can be bent a little.

I hate shelters with strange requirements like being 25+ to adopt a cat. Tried adopting Kenzie for example, was a whole stressful process. Our current place of residence wasn’t enough to let us adopt the cat, which felt unfair. My Lola (grandma) said “Why is it okay for me to live here but it’s not okay for our cat?” Then when my Aunt went to adopt her instead using her house, the shelter kept trying to nitpick every detail of the application, kept asking arbitrary questions, and would purposely misread answers to try and drag out the wait time until they finally hit the max wait time and couldn’t argue a case to keep the cat any longer because my rich Aunt with the large house fit the requirements. They couldn’t just deny her for no reason. They tried to get her for saying she’ll put the litterbox in her closed off patio, an outdoor/indoor area that has see-through net-like walling. They tried to determine the amount of people and pets living in the house. They tried to make her never give away the pet to anyone, not even her family members. Not to sell or as a gift. The entire process felt invasive and controlling but I found it funny that the moment Aunty got the cat, she instantly gave Kenzie to me right in front of the shelter staff. And the shelter did freaking nothing. The cat was mine >:D It was kinda confusing tho because the shelter had a saying that it was “An easy adoption process.” This wasn’t for any specific breeds either, every cat was a stray they rescued off the streets. Or so they claim. So I went in expecting to rescue a cat and give them a home, with basic information they’d need and not some strange discriminatory attitude and behavior. (And the looks…) I understand the concern and wanting to ensure the health, safety, and wellness of the cat and making sure they go to good homes… but man that was a struggle.

The CDS chose me when a co-worker died, and another co-worker couldn't keep her at her apartment. The first couple weeks were rough, but were BFFs now. Best thing I ever did for my mental health. You never know how it's going to happen, so keep your heart open.

I was 11 years old when I first met my 2nd cat when he was a stray in the backyard in late September 1981. He turned out to be a big sweetie. My sister was the 2nd person and then my parents. It took a month and a half to adopted him inside our home. He even gotten along with our 1st cat. Those 2 cats both were red tabby cats. The 2nd cat was mine cat for a long time. He did always cuddled with me while watching TV with my parents. Both of my parents were jealous of me with him. He was very sweet and friendly towards them and my sister. He had a very special bond with me. I was so lucky to have him in my life. I had one grandmother that liked him but, she did hated cats. She fell in loved with him just after she opened a magazine and he climbed up on her lap to flossed his gums on the page from a magazine. That was one weird thing that he did. The other grandmother did liked cats but, she did disliked him for being a strange cat. He was very normal towards me. He liked anyone in the house. He was all over my cousin during my graduation from high school in June 1988. I wasn’t jealous of him with her.

Similar issue. I wanted a puppy when I was 17. My parter at the time was older and was able to adopt for me. This was 2007. I got that puppy. He stayed with me for 14 years, he passed away 2 years ago, having a pet and the responsibility that comes with it is immensely difficult.

I was denied a kitty cause I wanted to keep him inside cause I live near a busy road and didn't think letting him out was worth the risk. I was devastated. Then a new friend I had made brought her sister out with us one night, and she happened to work in another shelter we had in the city. She told me about a cat she was fostering at the time that was up for adoption and invited me to come see her. I went to her house, and she told me to go ahead into her room where the kitty was. I walked in and kitty saw me and immediately rolled over on the bed showing me her belly begging for pets and cuddles. That was it, and my baby girl is a happy, spoiled kitty with me a year later. She had a traumatic backstory, someone had locked in a wardrobe and left her in an empty flat. Vet estimated that she'd been in there for at least 7 days. It was a miracle that she survived. She was so quick to trust me, I think she knew I was mammy 😍

The cat distribution needs to LEAVE ME ALONE! Within 2 years, 12 cats have showed up at my door. I adopted 4 and found homes for 3. Yesterday I got home late and I saw 3 new cats on my porch staring at me.. There is a lovely black cat, one has grey and black tabby markings, and another is white with black spots.

The Cat Distribution System didnt choose me either my cat a foster rescue she was a animal neglect situation she is eight years old know. She had a bit of a health scare at a year and a half years old she had a hernia surgery and was told she wouldn't make it the night but she is a fighter and sure enough she is doing well enjoying her years. She is a service animal to registered and everything. I am glad you didn't give up on your cat and as I had not given up on my cat.

He's holding her like a rag doll and she's so chill. That means she trusts him. I was the only person capable of picking up my cat at all, and I used to pick him up and drape him over my shoulder or just hold him, and he was like he turned off and just chilled, anyone else tries and he just lost his shit.

Uh, nothing wrong with adopting! Many of those cats came in from the streets as well! I chose a cat almost 18 years ago, couldnt get him but got his brother after someone changed their mind. He's a good old man, very chatty and friendly.

Well, if you think about it, in a sense, driving is the most dangerous responsibility of all those. You have responsibility over your life and the life at others whenever you're behind wheel. And then of course voting is also important, since you have a say on the country's future. And drinking is a dangerous thing considering alcohol has the potential of altering your mind and perception when drunk. It does really make it seem weird that you need to be 25 to adopt a cat in the US. Or at least in that vet

We were so blessed to be chosen by the cat distribution system. She just showed up one day, and we had a beautiful 16 years together. All my kids first "word" was meow. I miss you my baby girl.

"Oh she's ours, we live just up there and she follows us everywhere" I'm just glad we got to give her such a good life. I miss her so much.

I feel this, when I went to a shelter I just wanted to see if I connected with any of the fur babies and I walked into the cat room and my baby girl jumped up like “there you are! I’ve been waiting!” And that was that. She is my baby.
Same with my cat. I first saw him on the shelter's website (tiny black fluff ball, he was left there as a kitten) and thought he looked cute. Ended up going to the shelter trusting that a least one cat would choose me, and this black cat just follows me everywhere while purring. Same cat, just five months older. I left with him on the same day, and he's been with me for six years now.

I think it's because having a pet is a huge financial responsibility and at 25, you would (hopefully) be out of school and working. I also think if you're under 25 perhaps a parent can help you sign the paperwork. But I'm glad if someone vouches for you, the rules can be bent a little.

I hate shelters with strange requirements like being 25+ to adopt a cat. Tried adopting Kenzie for example, was a whole stressful process. Our current place of residence wasn’t enough to let us adopt the cat, which felt unfair. My Lola (grandma) said “Why is it okay for me to live here but it’s not okay for our cat?” Then when my Aunt went to adopt her instead using her house, the shelter kept trying to nitpick every detail of the application, kept asking arbitrary questions, and would purposely misread answers to try and drag out the wait time until they finally hit the max wait time and couldn’t argue a case to keep the cat any longer because my rich Aunt with the large house fit the requirements. They couldn’t just deny her for no reason. They tried to get her for saying she’ll put the litterbox in her closed off patio, an outdoor/indoor area that has see-through net-like walling. They tried to determine the amount of people and pets living in the house. They tried to make her never give away the pet to anyone, not even her family members. Not to sell or as a gift. The entire process felt invasive and controlling but I found it funny that the moment Aunty got the cat, she instantly gave Kenzie to me right in front of the shelter staff. And the shelter did freaking nothing. The cat was mine >:D It was kinda confusing tho because the shelter had a saying that it was “An easy adoption process.” This wasn’t for any specific breeds either, every cat was a stray they rescued off the streets. Or so they claim. So I went in expecting to rescue a cat and give them a home, with basic information they’d need and not some strange discriminatory attitude and behavior. (And the looks…) I understand the concern and wanting to ensure the health, safety, and wellness of the cat and making sure they go to good homes… but man that was a struggle.

The CDS chose me when a co-worker died, and another co-worker couldn't keep her at her apartment. The first couple weeks were rough, but were BFFs now. Best thing I ever did for my mental health. You never know how it's going to happen, so keep your heart open.

I was 11 years old when I first met my 2nd cat when he was a stray in the backyard in late September 1981. He turned out to be a big sweetie. My sister was the 2nd person and then my parents. It took a month and a half to adopted him inside our home. He even gotten along with our 1st cat. Those 2 cats both were red tabby cats. The 2nd cat was mine cat for a long time. He did always cuddled with me while watching TV with my parents. Both of my parents were jealous of me with him. He was very sweet and friendly towards them and my sister. He had a very special bond with me. I was so lucky to have him in my life. I had one grandmother that liked him but, she did hated cats. She fell in loved with him just after she opened a magazine and he climbed up on her lap to flossed his gums on the page from a magazine. That was one weird thing that he did. The other grandmother did liked cats but, she did disliked him for being a strange cat. He was very normal towards me. He liked anyone in the house. He was all over my cousin during my graduation from high school in June 1988. I wasn’t jealous of him with her.

Similar issue. I wanted a puppy when I was 17. My parter at the time was older and was able to adopt for me. This was 2007. I got that puppy. He stayed with me for 14 years, he passed away 2 years ago, having a pet and the responsibility that comes with it is immensely difficult.
This is now my favourite video on the whole of the Intertubes, mainly because she looks like my cat Happy, except I can't hold her for more than 5 seconds before she turns into a Tasmanian devil. This video allows me to visualise such sweet, sweet perfection of holding Happy upside down.
I was denied a kitty cause I wanted to keep him inside cause I live near a busy road and didn't think letting him out was worth the risk. I was devastated. Then a new friend I had made brought her sister out with us one night, and she happened to work in another shelter we had in the city. She told me about a cat she was fostering at the time that was up for adoption and invited me to come see her. I went to her house, and she told me to go ahead into her room where the kitty was. I walked in and kitty saw me and immediately rolled over on the bed showing me her belly begging for pets and cuddles. That was it, and my baby girl is a happy, spoiled kitty with me a year later. She had a traumatic backstory, someone had locked in a wardrobe and left her in an empty flat. Vet estimated that she'd been in there for at least 7 days. It was a miracle that she survived. She was so quick to trust me, I think she knew I was mammy 😍
Man cats find me i moved to a Caravan Park 2 months ago and already have 3 cats, sad how some people just leave them behind. Makes sense to have an age restriction to me 😢

Yesterday I got home late and I saw 3 new cats on my porch staring at me.. There is a lovely black cat, one has grey and black tabby markings, and another is white with black spots.

The Cat Distribution System didnt choose me either my cat a foster rescue she was a animal neglect situation she is eight years old know. She had a bit of a health scare at a year and a half years old she had a hernia surgery and was told she wouldn't make it the night but she is a fighter and sure enough she is doing well enjoying her years. She is a service animal to registered and everything. I am glad you didn't give up on your cat and as I had not given up on my cat.

He's holding her like a rag doll and she's so chill. That means she trusts him. I was the only person capable of picking up my cat at all, and I used to pick him up and drape him over my shoulder or just hold him, and he was like he turned off and just chilled, anyone else tries and he just lost his shit.
Uh, nothing wrong with adopting! Many of those cats came in from the streets as well! I chose a cat almost 18 years ago, couldnt get him but got his brother after someone changed their mind. He's a good old man, very chatty and friendly.
