From a rangers fan celtic are a bigger club than city
City have 52.8 million followers on instagram, Celtic have less than a million!. Where are all those Celtic fans?? They don’t use social media in this day and age????
So we are going with instagram followers now 😂 I’ve been to many country’s but never saw a Man City pub, plenty of Celtic pubs, in fact there’s Celtic holidays destinations like Santa Ponsa.
@@greenockbhoy7347 lol There are definitely City themed pubs the world over but that's a worse way to measure it than social media counts(both City and Liverpool have over 131 million followers across the four main social media platforms of Insta, FB, X, TikTok btw) because it generally only tells you who the owner supports. He'd have very few customers if it was exclusive, you can't have thought this out. Every argument these anti-city nonsense posts throw up is superficial, in the sense that they offer flimsy measures to gauge fan counts. Such as: First hand visual accounts of counting shirts on holidays, number of supporters clubs globally(half could be empty, it doesn't tell us much at all), now themed pubs... My word, talk about scraping the barrel lol. I can tell you this, many blues have counted more City shirts than United Liverpool shirts in recent years while on their jollies... but they don't get carried away because there's probably cognitive bias at play here because obviously there are more United and Liverpool fans still. Just something for you to think about. Or just carry on deluding yourself with these flimsy measure while ignoring all the accepted ones such as broadcast viewing numbers, shirt sales, social media accounts, number of unique visitors to the stadium per season perhaps?(haven't even looked but I'm guessing City would trounce Celtic). More recent figures for you from the M.E.N 99% of the City fanbase now resides outside of the UK, citizens membership subscriptions went up 108% last year on the year before....City have been the fastest growing club in world football for over a decade... But Celtic are still bigger... When Scottish football itself isn't relevant globally(harsh but true), how can you begin to believe that?
@@adeo767..I wonder where all those City fans were before the mega millionaires turned ..It’ll be the same for Newcastle in a few years. Celtic have a bigger history.

Are Nottingham Forest a big club? They have won twice as many European Cups as Manchester City.
Am a Celtic fan , we’re the only club in world football to sweep everything in 67 , we done a quadruple , we also scooped the British sports personality award in that year , this achievement will never ever be repeated, it’s now recognised by UEFA as the greatest achievement in club football, and Celtic stand alone in this exclusive club all on there own , our trophy haul is incredible, we’ve racked up 9 league championship in a row twice , 8 trebles , Celtic are one of only five clubs in the world to have won over 100 trophies.[3] The club has won the Scottish league championship 53 times, most recently in 2022-23, the Scottish Cup 41 times and the Scottish League Cup 21 times. The club's greatest season was 1966-67, when Celtic became the first British team to win the European Cup, also winning the Scottish league championship, the Scottish Cup, the League Cup and the Glasgow Cup. Celtic also reached the 1970 European Cup Final and the 2003 UEFA Cup Final, losing in both. Celtic have a long-standing fierce rivalry with Rangers and, together, the clubs are known as the Old Firm. Their matches against each other are regarded as among the world's biggest football derbies. The club's fanbase was estimated in 2003 as being around 9 million worldwide and there are more than 160 Celtic supporters clubs in over 20 countries. An estimated 80,000 fans travelled to Seville for the 2003 UEFA Cup Final, and their "extraordinarily loyal and sporting behaviour" in spite of defeat earned the club Fair Play awards from FIFA and UEFA, respectively., so the question is ‘ yes we’re a bigger club than Man City ,

Andy Townsend is correct. I'm a Rangers supporter.
You can very easily define which clubs are bigger than other. You have to actually put some time and anlytics and data behind but it can be done. You use a weighted matrix with a range of categories and scoring against each, define which are the most important and least important factors, use some common sense to set a baseline and then you can make tweaks but you'll actually have a tool that works. Me and some friends did this years back rather than being bored at work, I've made a start at recreating it but it takes time and I have a day job. If someone who actually works in football wanted to do this it is very doable but sports journalist would rather debate over nothing than actual do the work. Using a single definition to define what is a big club or which is bigger than another makes no sense as shown here. If Man City win 20 Champions Leagues, make more money than any other club in the world, any other kind of metric but if you go to South Africa and don't see random people wearing a Man City shirt makes them a small club? No substance behind that. History, recent history, trophys, potential, revenue, tv viewers, season ticket holders, stadium capacity, cultural impact, general audience recognition, etc etc. ALL of these things and more determine what makes the club a certain size, it never boils down to 1 or 2 things.
Andy is right, Celtic ain't the only ones that's bigger than the 115. Villa, Everton, Newcastle, Rangers, Forest are bigger clubs than the plastic club with no history.
115 unproven charges and it’s funny you should mention Forest… a club who have spent nowhere near the same time in the top flight as City, even before 2008 City had won more and Forest have never had a single season in their history where they’ve got bigger gates than City. Guarantee you’re a United fan, literally the most plastic fanbase in England. City got bigger crowds than most of the Premier League when the club was in League One.

@@peterreid People are incredibly bitter about watching another team dominate football, my hatred for Liverpool went through the roof in the 2019/2020 season for the same reason. United and Liverpool fans hate the fact a club they perceive as inferior to them is hammering their clubs in success at the moment, that’s why. There’s also a lot of ignorant people out there who think football started with their upbringing and most people on the internet don’t remember the 60s and 70s when City won 6 major trophies and were competing right at the top. If Sunderland started taking league titles off United or Liverpool they’d throw the same accusations at you, they’d pretend those league titles never existed and they’d ignore the fact Sunderland get 40k+ fans in the lower leagues. I think theres a difference between a big club and a current successful club, a big club has heritage, history, an array of legendary players and a global reach, City’s success is too recent for them to be considered up there with Man utd, Liverpool, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich. But like Andy said it doesn’t really matter because the here and now is whats important to fans, and right now city might not be the biggest but they are the best.
So when City were winning trophies in the 60s and 70s, had full internationals in the side, were playing in front of the 3rd biggest crowds in the country, does that not count as history or “heritage”? Silly argument always bringing celtic into nonsense like this . Right now city is most successful on the pitch in england . Folk who support man u and Liverpool always bring this up because they cant handle not being as good as city . Celtic is a massive club no money in england will ever change that HAIL HAIL 🍀
City will be viewed similarly to Lance Armstrong long term, financially doped championships that have an asterisk beside them.
I remember Andy Townsend saying Odsonne Édouard was gonna tear it up at Palace after leaving Celtic😂😂😂
Tbf he wasn't being played properly under Viera and Hodgson was awful
He went to palace for better and bigger wages as Celtic couldn't afford to give him an extra 20quid.the same with John McGinn they wouldn't pay him wat he wanted so he went to villa.
@@colinwilliams4338 yes i remember that’s when he was leaving Hibernian right
Going to the highest bidder is the definition of a mercenary. As the guy on the call said, big clubs grow up over time. City and Chelsea bought it.
Taxi driver chased me down the street in Colombia shouting trippier trippier then walking threw cartenga airport security shouted over your winning 5 0 they were watching the game
100% correct
Of course they are it's not even up for debate. City barely sell out their stadium for champions league quarter final games. They've got the money but they don't have the history or the fanbase.
Ireland an entire nation supports Celtic.
Without a doubt and I'm a bluenose.
I have seen many people wearing Chelsea jersey in Europe, India and Australia.. Not sure what Andy is talking about..
He’s right about core city fans, growing up in Manchester in the 90s, you didn’t chose to support city cos you cared how many fans they had.
Dear Andy, I'm from South Africa and I've never seen a Celtic shirt out here, what you must also consider is most people for a long time did not have access to cable TV and pretty much did not follow the EPL. At the time most sections of the population got access many city and Chelsea were and the two clubs in the league with success and therefore are much more supported than the beloved British man u or LFC. No one is bothered to go research what Liverpool did in the 70s before alligning with a club. Many segments of the population are yet to have consistent access to paid TV and by the time they do if city is still dominating or United are succesful then those clubs will gain more attraction. The Brits think history matter more than what's currently happening and it's not that way all over. Also a club like Liverpool being successful in modern times in the league and Europe using African players like mane and Salah allowed them to gain more followers in the continent and SA. Which too African player does Arsenal or Man U have in their ranks ? None. That also suades new entries towards a certain club.
You literally have a club in yer South African premier league named after us and wear our colours😂😂
Bloemfontein Celtic and Kibera Celtic 🤷🏻♂️
the older gen will think that, the new one wont think the same.and so time goes on.
Man City break every single FFP in the book and that is just unfair to everyone else - this needs to be sorted out by UEFA or football as a genuine competition is just a joke!
Well said Andy
What about Declan Rice last summer Andy? He was linked with both Arsenal and City but went to Arsenal because he's 1st name on the team sheet every week whereas Declan Rice would only be a squad player at City.
Celtic 😂 oh soooo funny made my day
Go and educate yourself on the Old Firn, you will soon see how big they are, both of their fanbases absolutely dwarfs almost every club in England.
They’re not on for the treble now. 🤣🤣
Get them to pay their dues 🙏
Big is totally subjective unless you are talking in terms of how many supporters a club has across the world. Let’s not conflate successful with big or historic. The uk is full of teams that are historic which makes them big in the eyes of those who support them. The question should be one about success and not size. The reason people struggle with the idea of city being big is because their success is recent.
IMO City's legacy will always have a dent in it because of the charges linked to them regardless of whether they beat the charges or not. Also their lack of urgency to deal with the charges and put it behind them is also not helping their cause. Again this is merely my opinion.
Man city no match for Glasgow Celtic in terms of history
1. Mancheter United 2. Liverpool 3. Celtic 4. Rangers 5. The rest... Every trophy won by an English team after 1992 should have an asterisk on it.
Why are people flexing clubs being big? Childish argument Having fans in different continents doesn’t mean they’re a better football club, simply means they’re fashionable in certain continents Seriously what would you rather have, your club competing for trophies or some randoms in different countries wearing the club shirt.
Celtic fan here. City are a wonderful team. One of the best ever. They have wonderful players, a wonderful manager and they play wonderful football. But. They’ll never have the soul of a Celtic, a Man United or even an Everton. They’re a rich man’s play thing who could have been any one of about 20 other clubs.
And there is the problem. People don't look beyond the past few years when talking about clubs like City. Man Utd were bang average before the Premier League.
So ignorant. We have soul but of course as a rival fan you only look at the money. 30k fans in the old division two before the takeover
No soul? Pretty sure we're an older club than Celtic, and we also won trophies before most of the "big" clubs in England.
Also villa, forest and countless other teams too
😂😂😂😂 Villa have a decent ground that’s about it. Forest are more on a par with Stockport county. Don’t confuse forest with clough.
